"What? S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents are not allowed to enter the Mutant School, not allowed to monitor Mutant students and their families, not allowed to disrupt your lives.
Professor Charles, aren't these demands a bit too much?
As S.H.I.E.L.D., which maintains peace and security for all humanity, we have the right to interfere with any existence that threatens human safety!"
Nick Fury replied, his tone full of anger.
He didn't know why, but ever since they sat down for face-to-face negotiations, he noticed Professor X's tone had become much stronger, and he was making all sorts of conditions that Fury found unbelievable.
S.H.I.E.L.D. had already intervened; how could they possibly go back to their previous lives?
"Even if the attack on the President truly has nothing to do with you, it's undeniable that your Mr. Kurt was the perpetrator, and he indeed possesses the ability to teleport, which in itself is a threat.
Professor Charles, I can agree to your other demands, but there's one point: all Mutant information must be filed in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s database so that we can respond in time if danger arises.
Of course, I can assure you that this Mutant-related data will only exist in our S.H.I.E.L.D. database and will not be leaked to any other agency, including the CIA and the Federal Bureau of Investigation!"
Nick Fury laid out his final bottom line.
"Director Fury, I will also tell you clearly, that is impossible. Most Mutants are not as dangerous as you imagine; on the contrary, they have always faced various dangers brought by humans.
If a crisis really happens because of Mutants, you can notify me, and I will bring my X-Men to resolve it."
Professor X decisively rejected Nick Fury's demand, as this was also his bottom line.
"Professor Charles, you must understand that if the fight continues, you will ultimately be the ones to lose. I am only willing to negotiate with you here because I don't want the situation to get out of control."
Nick Fury's tone also began to become aggressive.
Professor X didn't trust him, and he likewise didn't trust Professor X. Entrusting the control of Mutant dangers to Mutants was simply a joke.
Moreover, they currently had the upper hand, and he felt that as long as he held out, Professor X would be the one to compromise in the end.
As Nick Fury's voice fell, the atmosphere instantly became heavy.
Just as the situation was about to erupt, a cold voice suddenly broke the stalemate.
"Charles, I told you long ago, humans have always been like this. They are always afraid of creatures different from them and will sooner or later exterminate all of us Mutants. Now you must recognize it, right?"
"Magneto!"
Hearing this voice, Nick Fury's pupils instantly constricted. He turned his head to look at Magneto, Mystique, and Hawking, who were walking down from the Quinjet.
It was then that he realized Hawking's disappearance wasn't about changing clothes in the jet.
Instead, he had somehow infiltrated the Quinjet right under his nose, rescuing Magneto and Mystique.
"I was careless."
Nick Fury quickly turned to look at Captain Marvel beside him.
"Catch him!"
"Snap!"
Magneto snapped his fingers, and the brainwave inhibitors on the necks of Nick Fury, Captain Marvel, Captain Carter, and all S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents instantly shattered.
They then fell into a state of stagnation, as if Time Freeze.
Hawking's purpose in releasing Magneto was not to team up with him to fight Captain Marvel; with his current strength, even teaming up would not give them any chance of victory.
His goal was to have Magneto destroy the brainwave inhibitors so that Professor X's terrifying mental control abilities could take effect.
"Eric, they don't represent all of humanity. Don't give up on humanity completely like this."
Professor X replied with a smile.
Magneto just shook his head at the words, saying nothing more. He couldn't persuade Charles, and Charles couldn't persuade him.
As old friends and rivals for decades, they were the ones who understood each other best.
"Ah!"
Just then, Captain Marvel let out an angry roar, breaking free from Professor X's mental control.
"I advise you not to move, or they might all lose their lives."
Hawking was not surprised by this. He pointed at Nick Fury and the others who were frozen.
Because Captain Marvel had absorbed the immense energy of the lightspeed engine, she was basically no longer human. Her internal energy was off the charts, and her resistance in all aspects was terrifyingly strong, with no weaknesses whatsoever.
Therefore, while Professor X's mental control did affect her, it could not play a decisive role.
"What do you want?"
Captain Marvel looked at Professor X with a solemn expression.
She naturally knew Magneto's and Professor X's abilities and understood that no matter how fast she was, she definitely couldn't be faster than Professor X's telepathy.
Moreover, there was Hawking, who could transform into a giant ape at any time, and Magneto, who was also not to be trifled with.
"We just don't want to be disturbed, and we don't want to start a war with humans. Please tell Director Fury that in two days, I will bring Colonel Stryker and the evidence of his crimes to your headquarters to have a proper talk."
Professor X left these words, then took everyone onto the jet.
Only after the X-Jet completely disappeared into the sky did Nick Fury and the others fully return to normal.
"Fury, how are you?"
Captain Marvel immediately stepped forward with concern.
Nick Fury looked at all the Mutants and the X-Jet that had suddenly vanished from the surroundings, a look of confusion flashing in his eyes before he quickly reacted and looked at Captain Marvel:
"Did Professor X use his abilities?"
"Yes, he asked me to tell you."
Captain Marvel nodded and roughly recounted what had just happened.
After listening, Nick Fury couldn't help but sigh.
"It seems the Avengers needs to be assembled as soon as possible."
"Director Fury, actually, I think what Professor Charles said makes a lot of sense. They are also victims."
At this moment, Captain Carter walked over, holding her shield.
Influenced by her former lover, Steve, her ideology somewhat conflicted with Nick Fury's current views. She had come here originally to help apprehend the Mutants who attacked the President.
But as it currently stood, the real mastermind behind the scenes didn't seem to be Mutants.
If she had known it would be like this, she wouldn't have helped Nick Fury fight. She would have rather gone to look for the disappeared Steve, or gone to the hospital to see Bucky, who was gravely ill in bed.
In 1945, to prevent Red Skull from releasing HYDRA from an alternate dimension, she single-handedly pushed HYDRA into the alternate dimension and then fought valiantly to kill them there.
At the time, they had agreed to go dancing with Steve after she came out, but when the space reopened, she didn't see Steve, Howard, or Bucky, but a one-eyed bald black man.
He introduced himself as Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., which was the Strategic Scientific Reserve of yesteryear.
And tragically, in just a few minutes in the alternate dimension, fifty-five years had passed outside.
Howard was dead, Bucky was old, and her beloved Steve Rogers had disappeared fifty-five years ago, his whereabouts still unknown.
