Chapter 4: The Family's Secret
Ava's heart pounded as she watched the tension between her parents unfold. Julian's face was red with anger, while Catherine stood firm, her eyes flashing with determination.
"Ava, come with me," Julian said, his voice firm, and Ava hesitated, unsure what to do. Catherine's grip on her arm tightened. "Don't go, Ava. You need to know the truth."
The truth? What truth? Ava's mind was racing with questions. Julian's expression softened slightly, but his voice remained firm. "Ava, trust me. This isn't the right time."
Ava pulled away from Catherine and followed Julian out of the study, leaving the mysterious book and its secrets behind. But she knew she wouldn't let it go. She would uncover the truth, no matter what.
As they walked, Julian's silence was oppressive. Ava sensed he was hiding something, and she was determined to find out what.
"Dad, what's going on?" Ava asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Julian's eyes darted around the hallway before he leaned in close.
"We'll talk later, Ava. When the time is right." But Ava wasn't sure she could wait.
