~Narration~
As ROOT forces pulled out of the espionage field and were rerouted onto the battlefield, stood one girl who blended in the most. Simple framed rounded glasses, dirty blonde hair, a traditional ROOT cloak and hood, pale skin, and a stoic expression that seemed void of any emotion. What she thought and felt all paled in comparison to the now erupting battlefield, the dozens of rain soaked tents that hosted injured Shinobi after injured Shinobi. Her glasses fogging in the dropping temperatures and her own breath. Before all of a sudden something appeared in her vision that truly broke her false stoicism.
~Yakushi Nono POV~
A sky blue panel lit up revealing the words…
[Host intent recognized… Determination… Peace… Target confirmed: Soutarou Senju…
…Ding! The Kunoichi Improvement System has bound itself to host.]
'What is this? A genjutsu?'
Then without warning her chakra vanished causing Nono to fall into panic before it returned.
[The Host has been determined to believe this is a Genjutsu. It is not. The system does not have time to explain its features or abilities to the host. Prepare for mortal combat.]
[Quest: Survive against the onslaught of Saburo, The Strongest Kazekage.
Rewards: ???]
Nono without hesitation shouted out, "Enemy battalion in bound all Shinobi on guard!"
Within moments the entire army, not just the root squadron, stilled while sensory techniques began confirming a horrifying truth… They were outnumbered 1-4 and the enemy's main deployment hadn't reached the battlefield yet, only sparse harassments squads had formed up to cut off their escape.
Two figures calmed the entire army down… A rising Uchiha, Naori Uchiha and the Wife of The God of Shinobi, Mito Uzumaki.
Mito Uzumaki roared, "Prepare to fight, break out when possible immediately! All forces are to focus on retreat!"
Just as Mito was about to rile up the army's morale dozens of Shinobi broke through encampment on either side and Mito grunted before revealing a golden coat and tearing the invaders in halves with a single movement. In the shimmering glow of her slaughter the Konoha shinobi responded with vigor.
Nono on the other hand was horrified with the revelation that whatever had possessed her had senses even beyond Mito Uzumaki. Gritting her teeth Nono's eyes lit up with determination as she flickered to the battlefield front.
'They say that the most dangerous area is near the storm, but the eye of the storm is always the safest…'
With calculated strikes Nono disengaged arriving enemies and continued to follow after Mito, dealing mortal blows whenever she could. Her blue glowing hands sliced muscles open, flaying eyes and skin all with unnerving focus. As the chaos of the battlefield continued to rise, Nono continued her chase while dings of metal, clangs of swords, and booms of explosive tags rang out in every direction. Seeing Mito grow further and further away, Nono grit her teeth harder and backtracked and headed straight towards another corner where blood flowed in streams… Naori Uchiha. Her flower-like Mangekyo moving at speeds mortals could not follow and her short uchiha styled ninjato slashed in every direction with the efficiency of what could only be called a grim reaper.
Feeling her chakra begin to drop, Nono drew a kunai and chopped off an older Suna chunin's ear and brain stem before forming a few hand signs…
'Dead Soul Jutsu'
Hiding her body in a collection of corpses used the Suna chunin to hide her body before using the Suna Chunin to attack other Suna shinobi from inside their formations.
'Jonin… Tsk.'
Seeing an arriving Jonin showing up to clean Nono's possessed body, just as the Jonin stabbed through the Chunin's heart, Nono let go of the body and formed the snake hand sign.
'Explode!'
In dramatic fashion the jonin along with a dozen chunin were blown up by the dozens of explosive tags on the possessed chunin's body.
Just as Nono was about to repeat the feat, her eyes widened as she noticed many Kunai became magnetized and attracted towards a certain direction.
'My ass the storms' eye is safe, magnet release would've killed me…'
Moving back towards Konoha defensive lines, dealt with another seven Suna chunin while she noticed Yamanaka shinobi repeating what she had just done with the dead soul jutsu.
'Damn copycats.'
Arriving by Naori Uchiha's side Nono said, "Lady Naori, Lady Mito Uzumaki has engaged the Third Kazekage!"
Naori nodded before saying, "I see. Duly noted.'
As Naori said this she threw shuriken out claiming lives with unnatural ease.
Nono watched and began retreating and dealing with chunin slowly but surely.
'War… this unforgiving place… this worthless concept… must we always fight? Just for the greed of others… just for the fear of others… Iwa, Suna, Konoha, Kumo, and Kiri from their own perspectives always think they're correct… but really I've realized… and I see it now on the battlefield and I suppose in everything only strength matters…'
[Warning. Another powerhouse, Hanzo the Salamander is arriving.]
Nono Yakushi shouted out to Naori, "Lady Naori Hanzo is arriving on the battlefield."
Without hesitation Naori nodded and took note of Nono recognizing it as the same voice that noticed the enemy assault in the first place. Naori disappeared leaving a slight gap in the defenses that Suna ninja immediately tried rushing in towards.
Nono cursing under her breath rushed over and threw dozens of kunai with her last remaining explosive tags.
'These bastards breaking conventional war… then again war is always like this isn't it? Unfair. Only the winner writes history as if they were glorious. Attacking in surprise, getting rid of our spies somehow and even managing to field two kage level beings on the same battlefront without anyone being the wiser. These bastards even broke the unspoken rules about holding Jonin back to fight Jonin, rank vs rank… but now it's all just chaos, whose a Konoha ninja, whose a Suna ninja, or even whose an Ame ninja are all becoming convoluted…'
Lighting her hands up with her personal variation of the chakra scalpel once more Nono jammed her glowing hand into an already injured Suna special jonin that was pretending to be dead. Rupturing and damaging his chakra network. Nono used the last bit of chakra to use her family's dead soul jutsu once more and then used the special jonin's body to hide her body under the earth using 'Earth Style: Camp Jutsu' and making sure to leave open a bit of a gap to allow air to flow in while covering it up with dead bodies and covering her own scent in dozens of other blood signatures in the most natural way possible. Before retreating as far she could behind Suna lines as she could. As she continued backwards, she found a trail of corpses and she could feel shockwaves as golden energy clashed with a metallic wall.
With her expression tightening Nono continued forwards towards the Suna command center.
'Based on how the sensors reported the battlefield formation, in the center of the battlefield there was a large cluster of chakra. I'm willing to bet that there's either someone really important or the main commander is right there. If not I can at least deal with someone stronger and weaken the pressure on the main front.'
Slowly looting corpses for explosive tags, Nono continued forwards filling the special jonin's inner jacket with as many tags as physically possible, tying her minuscule remnants of chakra into each tag.
She after several dozen minutes of flickering and resting and repeating finally started coming across more and more Sunagakure squads each verifying Nono, which thanks to both her innocent aura and lack of killing intent resulted in her being allowed further and further back until she began to approach the Sunagakure encampment.
Once in the camp, Nono began acting as if she had important information using a code she knew from Suna from her time there and the Suna guards none the wiser, verified the code and she was quickly ushered inside.
A man with red hair raised an eyebrow at the special jonin, next to him was a female elite Jonin tending to a damaged puppet. The man asked quickly, "Hoki?"
Nono nodded through the man's body and said, "Lord Tetsuya and Lady Akane the Yamanaka clan have sent dozens of Shinobi backwards towards the base with explosive tags on themselves! And Lord Hanzo has already fallen in battle with Naori Uchiha, it's likely she'll join Mito Uzumaki on the battlefield to support her against Lord Saburo!"
Nono continued playing her part and opened a scroll to reveal a corpse before rushing towards the two of them. In the gap the two revealed the moment the corpse hit the ground Nono released the dead soul jutsu and formed a tiger handsign once again and blew up the explosive tags…
'That should have killed them… but seriously…'
'The Elder of Sunagakure, Chiyo… sending your son and daughter-in-law to the battlefield without adequate protection as puppet users? Foolish since you've started breaking the rules, let's throw them into the trash.'
Nono smiled deeply before continuing back towards Konoha's medic unit, preparing to settle down. Just as she was beginning to meditate and prepared to rest a bit before redeploying gasps echoed as from a distance several Konoha shinobi watched in awe as a purple armored top half of a giant revealed itself which even over a distance it could be seen. Silence reached the camp as many muttered to each other…
'Is this the power of gods? What nonsense is this? A fifteen story tall pure chakra structure?-'
Just as she was going to comment further, another gasp rang as one random shinobi said, "T-the Nine Tails!"
A red chakra formation with several tails and bubbling chakra revealed itself and a fading iron and collapsing iron dome revealed all too much… The Red Pure Chakra Version of the nine tails began forming a massive amount of chakra into a black orb. Before firing it off and a massive explosion rang out far dwarfing anything else.
'This is… this is… Mito Uzumaki… The First Jinchuriki… the Jinchuriki of the Strongest Tailed Beast… I see now… this war it'll be the war to determine the world order… with Soutarou Senju, Mito Uzumaki…'
Her eyes glanced over at Naori before finishing her thought.
'And Naori Uchiha along with the current kage level figures of Konoha… we'll win. Konoha will come out on top!'
With hope in her eyes Nono watched as her dream of peace found its foundations.
~Three Days Later, Unknown POV in Sunagakure.~
"What a tragedy… Saburo died… Hanzo fled… our forces were absolutely decimated… and… even though we had prepared to violate the rules of war… Konoha has no shamelessness sneaking behind our lines and using our shinobi to blow themselves up one after another. Lady Chiyo, Elder Ebizo… I'm afraid we no longer have the manpower we must pull out of this war and surrender while we can still cut our losses… or there won't be a Sunagaku-"
An aging lady slammed her hands onto the table in sheer fury with killing intent radiating off of her. She rasped, "Then let it die! Let it return to sand! My son and my pregnant daughter-in died fighting then we'll go down fighting. Forget arguing if Konoha continues to grow after this war there won't be a Sunagakure either way! We might as well die with our dignity. Since Konoha wants to suicide bomb us we'll retaliate in kind. All Sunagakure Shinobi are to equip themselves with explosive tags and field as many puppets as possible and continue to blow them up when out of chakra-"
"Enough Sister. While I too am angry this is not the correct course of action. Pulling out of the way is not possible at this point I agree. However, aimlessly throwing our lives at Konoha will just leave us susceptible to the other villages. The most important item of concern at this moment is electing a new Kazekage. The Kazekage's lineage only has his nephew Rasa left, as such we have no choice but to an Acting Kazekage or a Kazekage like lord second to take Lord Third's Place. I suggest the elder sister as the wife of the First Kazekage take the position and that our Jinchuriki, Bunpuku be fielded against his choice.
The council of Sunagakure without vigor nodded listlessly as they saw the pair of siblings use the village as their machine of vengeance… and so the Second Great Shinobi war continues.
***Author's Note: Nono is not that strong, she's only 13 right now, the main thing is even at that age she's a top-tier spy and at least an elite chunin in terms medical ninja. The dead soul jutsu she's using is from her family, the Yakushi Shinobi Family (they all basically got Danzoed). Combined with battlefield chaos, knowing the proper codes and information she's able to sneak around and blow her taken over body, though as you'll see soon this strategy won't work after this battle. Also, yes this does mean Sasori won't exist either.***
