LETS GO GAMBLING!!!
"Wh-what the?.."I said coming out like a whisper
LETS GO GAMBLING!!!
… silence…
'Finally! … wait a minute.'
My eyes shot open only to meet Nothing, like literally nothing, a void, an emptiness, wherever I looked. I then realize I'm floating, which you'd think I'd notice first, but hey, hindsight is 20/20 or something. And my body's opaque like a ghost, which is terrifying, but at least the floating is fine, and I don't feel like I'm falling, it's like floating on water, but there's no water, kinda nice, relaxing even.
LETS GO GAMBLING!!!
"God damb it ! who said tha-. "
That's when it appeared, a glowing, multicolored slot machine with 4 slots about a foot away from my face. And I gotta say, you don't know how much you miss color, light, or some fucking contrast until you're stuck in the void for I don't know how long.
(it's been a couple seconds)
I look it up and down as its colors shift, swirling around like a holographic card from all sides, until my eyes meet its label reading (LETS GO GAMBLING). I look around, trying to see if there's anything else around or just this. Finding nothing changed, I reach out toward its lever.
"shit, nothing else around might as well right."
I pause for a second, 'wait a minute, is this a trap? It kinda feels like a trap, but what else am I supposed to do?'
"Hey, I don't know if there's some eldritch monstrosity or god or whatever, but Imma pull this lever, tell me not or forever hold your peace!!!"
Silence
"Well, I guess let's go gambling!"
I pull it, and the slots start to spin one by one from left to right.
Clink clink clink clink!!!!
Cla clink! (insert image here)
Cla clink! (insert image here)
Cla clink! (insert image here)
Cla clink! (insert image here)
"Well, what does any of this mean?"
'Ok, I got a spider-alien-thing surrounded by fire? That could be fucking anything.
Next, an umbrella logo… an umbrella logo? Aaaw hell no nonononono I swear to god I better not end up in Resident Evil, maybe it's a power or something, ya, ya that's it it gotta be a power totally. Next is a graph? And a safe with a lock symbol on it.'
"I don't understand any of this. Are these powers, premonitions, worlds, or something else?"
I float there waiting for something to happen.
"What do I do now? Nothing's happening, man you'd think a magical slot machine would come with instructions or something, maybe I choose from what I got, or do I get another spin?"
I reach out and try to move the lever back up.
"won't budge."
'Maybe if I tap one it'll change.'
I tap one, and it starts glowing gold.
'Ok that's a start.'
I tap the next one, and it begins to glow silver.
"Huh!"
I tap the last two slots, both shining the same color, each time trying to move the lever, gotta cover all bases, you know, but it never budged. As soon as I selected the final slot, the machine exploded into thousands of tiny lights floating all around me; it was trippy like my own little light show in my never-ending void, like stars. But then they moved, shooting towards my chest, looking like hyperspace from a movie scene.
Spreading a warm sensation all over me, it felt like reliving every happy memory ive ever had started rushing back; when my sister taught me how to ride a bike and told me I did great job, when my dad let me and my sister play solitaire on his computer, when my little brother was brought home for the first time and all his little hands ever wanted to hold was my finger, the first time my mom told me she was proud of me, and meeting my grandma for the first time just 6 months before she died.
And the final promise I made to my sister when we felt like our world was going to shit, saying, "If the world is against us, then its You and me against the world"
"I'll never see them again. I left them, and I promised I would never leave."
'I want to cry, but the tears never came, guess that's what happens when you don't have a body.'
At that moment, the last of the light entered my body, but the movement didn't stop, as if the void itself was being pulled in, the nothingness of the void. But then I felt it, deep in my soul, a warning.
Close your eyes!!
I felt like if I didn't, I'd really die…again.
My eyes shut, and the next thing I know, I feel whole again, like physically, and a cold, solid.. wall? Was right behind me. My eyes open, and all I see is swirling clouds and red lightning storming through the sky.
"What the hell!?"
'My voice changed. What happened to my voice? I sound like a kid!'
I look down at my hands and finaly realize i am a fuckign kid, I shoot up sitting upright looking around like I lost my mind, im on the floor right in front of a library covered in vines while the air look like it was tinted blue, to my left at the point where the library ends, is a wall of fog, looking like something straight out of Silet Hill. To my right, the same thing, like the world isn't fully rendered yet.
'Ok, let's break this down. Cloudy sky with red lightning flashing now and again, weird blue tint in the air that almost smells stale? And finally, the creepy fucking vines.'
It took a sec, but then it clicked.
'I'm in the upside down, but it looks a little different from the show, even though it was cloudy, you should still be able to see at least a block in front of you, but it's more like I'm closed off from the rest of it.'
Graaaa Hiiiiissss!!!
I froze for a second and turned to the sound. It seemed like it was coming from beyond the fog.
'Shit, gotta get out of the open.'
I rush towards the library, closing the door behind me, not checking if I was spotted or not, better safe than sorry. I don't want the horror movie cliché, where you look out to see if you're spotted and the monster looks directly at you cuz you looked back.
'Wait, how the hell do Demogorgons see like their heads are fucking spiky petals of death.'
I look around, I realize I'm in the mud room of the library, and then start making my way inside. The inside wasn't that bad; it looked like a regular library, just a lot more vines and creepy atmosphere, but I guess that's to be expected.
Grrrrr
I stop, look around searching to find what made that sound, only to realize it's coming from me.
'When was the last time I ate anything? I guess I ate breakfast, but that was like hours before I died, I think. Guess it doesn't matter, gotta find some food that's not rotten or covered in vines, maybe the library has a breakroom or something.'
I make my way around the library skimmed some book covers as I try to find a breakroom, only to stop, as I see a book just appear in an empty space on a bookshelf.
'Wait a minute, in the show didn't they say the upside down was a copy of the town the day Will disappear, but if I'm here, shouldn't the world be frozen on the day I arrived, or maybe I'm in a sealed off space. And the world updates as things change until the day El opens the portal… Am I stuck till then?'
I shake my head. I can think about all that when I've got some food or at least a way out of here. I keep moving until I find a door labeled breakroom. I sighed in relief. I finally found the break room. Looking inside, I see a coffee machine on top of a countertop with several drawers and cabinets, a fridge in the corner, a microwave, and a bowl of fruit on a table, unfortunately the fruit is covered in vines.
'Well, can't touch that, at least the fridge is clear and the microwave, hell, maybe I'll find some stuff in the cabinets and drawers.'
"Well, at least things are looking up."
{ I saw other authors don't use the author's thoughts section when they post their chapter, so imma start writing my thoughts like this just so its easyer to read.
well anyway, tell me how you like the chapter, what you think I should change, or if I messed up somewhere. Comments would be awesome i really don't know what I'm doing, so I could use the help. }
