Chapter 38 - Goku vs. King Kong...

Anjēru lived in a small village named Gurando. On Planet Yardrat, there were no centralized kingdoms, only independent tribal communities. Gurando was one such modest tribe, with a population of roughly a thousand souls.

Her home was a simple dwelling on the western edge of the settlement—an ordinary family consisting of a father, a mother, and an elderly grandfather.

Her father, a sturdy man named Moshī, lay gravely injured. His back had been raked by monstrous claws, the wounds deep enough to expose bone, and several of his ribs were shattered. He was now bedridden and immobile.

When Goku saw him, he was taken aback. While Moshī's current life force felt faint, Goku could sense the disciplined power lying dormant within him—this was no weakling. For a warrior of his caliber to be so grievously wounded, his opponent must have been formidable. Anyone capable of inflicting such damage likely possessed a battle power well over 100,000.

Anjēru's mother was a kind, attractive woman, but Goku, unfamiliar with and uninterested in the "anime girl" archetype, paid her looks little mind. The grandfather, Morun, appeared as a frail old man, yet Goku's senses told a different story: this elder's hidden strength far surpassed his son's.

"To think our humble home would host a visitor from the stars. It is a great honor!" Morun said warmly, gesturing for Goku to sit. Meanwhile, Anjēru and her mother busied themselves preparing the medicinal herbs.

"You're too kind," Goku replied. "But please, tell me—what kind of creature caused such injuries?"

Morun sighed heavily. "To speak truthfully, Moshī was not injured while hunting for food. His wounds were inflicted by a Giant Bear in the Shirū Jungle. That beast is a ravenous terror; it devours any living thing it sees. Several tribes have already fallen prey to it. A coalition of dozens of villages has posted a bounty: 10,000 gold pieces to whoever slays the monster—a fortune that could sustain a family for generations. Moshī, confident in his skill, sought to claim it. If not for the timely intervention of our village's champion, Zamu, he would have been… Well, because of that rescue, Zamu now lies injured as well. Otherwise, Anjēru would never have dared sneak into the Dabura Forest alone for the Hoshi Midori-gusa."

"A Giant Bear? How large is it? What's its battle power?" Goku's interest was piqued.

"The beast stands at least ten meters tall, with strength to match. A single blow from its paw can level a hill. It is a true force of nature."

BOOM… BOOM… BOOM…

At that moment, a series of massive, rhythmic footsteps shook the very ground. From outside came the rising cacophony of panicked screams.

Morun's face paled. "No… those footsteps… the Giant Bear! It's here, in the village! Quickly, Goku, warn Anjēru and the others! We must flee at once!"

"No need for panic. I'll handle it." In a flash, Goku was out the door.

"Goku, wait! Come back!" Morun's frantic call echoed behind him.

Outside, chaos reigned. Villagers scrambled in every direction. Goku ignored the pandemonium and focused his senses toward the village outskirts. His eyes widened slightly. "Whoa… that's no mere bear. That's a King Kong!"

A colossal, gray-furred ape, radiating a savage aura, loomed over the palisade. Its battle power was substantial—at least 300,000.

A brave group of village warriors was already engaging it, but their attacks glanced off its thick hide like pebbles. The beast swatted them aside effortlessly, its roars mixing with the crunch of earth and wood. It was a one-sided slaughter.

One fighter, however, stood out—a young man. He moved with startling speed, pressing two fingers to his forehead and vanishing, only to reappear an instant later to pull a comrade from certain death.

That's… the Shunkan Idō! Goku's heart leaped. So this is where it's practiced! But his excitement was tempered by observation. His power is only in the tens of thousands. He's no match for that thing.

As predicted, after several daring rescues, the young warrior's stamina gave out. The King Kong backhanded him with a thunderous blow, slamming him into the earth and creating a small crater. The beast raised a gargantuan foot to stomp, then turned its maw toward the heart of the village. Its throat glowed with gathering energy.

"NO—!" a villager screamed.

"It's over! The village is finished!" cried another, their voices thick with despair.

"Now that is a ferocious beast," Goku remarked, almost appreciatively. Then, his voice cut through the din like a blade. "HEY!"

He unleashed a surge of his ki. In the blink of an eye, he stood between the village and the monster. As the King Kong fired its devastating energy beam, Goku casually swatted the blast upward with the back of his hand. The beam deflected into the sky, streaking across the atmosphere until it vanished into the void of space.

"Wh… what…?" The fleeing villagers froze, stunned into silence.

"Incredible!" Morun gasped from a nearby alleyway, having followed to watch. "He diverted that attack with a mere slap!"

"I told you Brother Goku was amazing!" Anjēru whispered, her eyes shining with pure admiration.

HOOO… ROOOAR!

THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!

The King Kong beat its chest in furious challenge, the sound like war drums. It then swung a tree-trunk-sized arm in a vicious arc toward the tiny figure hovering before it.

"You're still nowhere near my level!" Goku roared.

He didn't dodge. Instead, he raised both hands and caught the descending limb. His fingers locked around one of the beast's massive digits. With a grunt of effort and a mighty pivot, he used the creature's own momentum against it.

CRASH—BOOM!

The King Kong was hurled to the ground with planet-shaking force, gouging a trench dozens of meters long. Dazed and bleeding from multiple wounds, it could only groan weakly.

The villagers watched, utterly speechless. The unstoppable terror was being manhandled like a child's toy.

Finally, Goku hauled the dazed beast into the air. He cupped his hands to his side, blue energy crackling between them.

"KAMEHAME—HA!"

A brilliant azure wave engulfed the King Kong. For a moment, its silhouette was visible within the light—and then it was gone, utterly vaporized.

Silence returned to Gurando, broken only by the settling dust and the awed whispers of its people.
