Chapter 80 - Chapter 79 — “Ashes of Eisenwald”

Year: X784

Season: Early Summer

Location: Eisenwald Hideout → Magnolia

Age:

Ren / Erza / Mira — 19

Lucy / Juvia — 17

---

Ren — POV

The stench of rot clung to the air.

Not blood.

Not decay.

Intent.

"This place reeks of unfinished hatred," Ren said quietly, eyes scanning the ruined corridors.

Eisenwald's hideout lay in broken silence—walls cracked, torches guttering low. The remnants of Lullaby's magic still lingered like a dying echo.

"They ran," Gray muttered. "Cowards."

Erza nodded once. "They always do."

Ren turned slightly, gaze shifting to the four behind them—Natsu bouncing on his heels, Lucy clutching her keys tighter than necessary, Gray rolling his shoulders, Happy floating with sharp focus.

"This is your fight," Ren said calmly. "We intervene only if necessary."

Lucy stiffened. "…You're letting us?"

Erza crossed her arms. "If you freeze, you die. If you think, you live. Choose."

Lucy swallowed—and nodded.

---

Lucy — POV

My heart was trying to escape my chest.

This is real.

Not a job. Not a book.

People died here.

The corridor ahead burst open—

"INTRUDERS!"

Dark mages poured out like rats from broken stone.

"Natsu—!" I shouted.

"I KNOW!" he yelled back, already charging.

Fire roared.

Gray's ice followed.

I forced my hands to stop shaking.

"Cancer," I whispered. "Aquarius—no, wait—"

Think.

Two mages rushed me.

I raised a key.

"Open, Gate of the Clock—Horologium!"

The golden shield snapped into place just in time, magic slamming harmlessly against its surface.

I didn't panic.

That realization steadied me.

When Horologium faded, I moved—calling Taurus, coordinating with Gray, trusting Natsu to cover my blind spots.

This wasn't chaos.

This was teamwork.

---

Gray — POV

Lucy wasn't slowing us down.

That surprised him.

She wasn't flashy—but she read the fight. Covered openings. Didn't scream unless necessary.

"…She's good," Gray muttered.

Natsu grinned mid-punch. "Told ya!"

More mages fell.

But then—

A pressure.

Heavy. Sharp. Killing intent sharpened into something focused.

"…Erigor," Ren said quietly from behind them.

---

Erza — POV

Erigor stepped forward, scythe gleaming with cursed wind.

"So Fairy Tail sends children now?" he sneered.

Erza didn't answer.

She stepped past Ren.

One step.

Sword drawn.

The air cracked.

Erigor didn't even have time to scream.

One strike.

He hit the wall and slid down—unconscious before his body registered pain.

Silence followed.

"…That," Happy said slowly, "was scary."

Erza sheathed her sword. "Cleanup complete."

---

Mira — POV

As they left the ruin, Mira glanced back once.

Eisenwald was finished.

No demon. No future.

Good.

She turned her attention to Lucy—who looked exhausted, dirty, and quietly glowing with relief.

She survived her first real battle.

That mattered.

---

Happy — POV

"OHHH!" Happy suddenly yelled, spinning in midair.

Everyone stopped.

Lucy blinked. "What?"

Happy zipped in front of her, paw digging into his pack. "I forgot! Totally forgot!"

"…Forgot what?" Lucy asked nervously.

Happy pulled out a golden key.

A familiar shape.

A woman's silhouette etched into its bow.

Lucy froze.

"…That's—"

Happy nodded vigorously. "Virgo! She asked me to give it to you back then! At the Duke's place! I forgot!"

The key dropped into Lucy's hands.

Warm.

Real.

Golden.

Her breath caught.

"…Open," she whispered, voice shaking. "Gate of the Maiden—Virgo."

Light erupted.

Virgo appeared, kneeling immediately. "Lucy-sama. I apologize for the delay."

Lucy laughed—then cried—then hugged the spirit without thinking.

"I—I thought—"

Virgo smiled gently. "I was always meant to be yours."

Ren watched quietly from a distance.

Another bond formed, he thought.

And she earned it.

---

Ren — POV

As Magnolia came into view, the tension finally eased.

Lucy walked differently now.

Straighter.

Sure of her steps.

She wasn't just a guest anymore.

She belonged.

Erza noticed too. "…She chose well."

Ren nodded. "She chose herself."

---

Back at Fairy Tail

The doors burst open.

Cheers followed.

Natsu was immediately tackled.

Gray argued with Cana.

Lucy stood near the entrance, fingers curled around her keys—now heavier, warmer.

Happy perched on her shoulder. "First dark guild down!"

Lucy smiled, eyes shining.

This wasn't the end of her story.

It was the beginning of her place.

And Fairy Tail—loud, reckless, warm Fairy Tail—welcomed her without hesitation.
