Chapter 47 - Chapter 47 — Perfect Days, Ominous Whispers

Year X779 — Late Spring

Location: Magnolia / Fairy Tail Guild Hall / Outskirts Missions

Age: Ren (14) | Erza (14) | Mirajane (14)

---

If anyone asked Fairy Tail what peace looked like—

They would point at Mirajane Strauss.

She returned from her third mission that week without a scratch, clothes barely dusty, report written neatly, magic signature calm and contained.

Makarov adjusted his glasses, reading it twice.

"…Flawless," he muttered.

Mirajane smiled politely. "Thank you, Master."

Around the guild, heads turned.

Not because she won.

But because she made it look easy.

---

Perfect Control

Ren noticed the details.

The way Mira entered the hall—no rush, no hesitation.

The way her breathing never wavered, even when Natsu tackled her from the side.

"WELCOME BACK—!"

"…Natsu," Mira said calmly, bracing herself and redirecting his momentum so he slid harmlessly across the floor.

"…Huh?" Natsu blinked. "That didn't work."

Ren smiled into his cup.

> Her breathing isn't just constant, he thought.

It's natural.

Erza crossed her arms. "…Your mission efficiency has increased."

Mira tilted her head. "…Is that bad?"

"…No," Erza replied. "…It's impressive."

Ren leaned closer, voice teasing. "…You're making the rest of us look lazy."

Mira smirked. "…You don't seem bothered."

"I enjoy watching excellence."

She raised an eyebrow. "…Careful."

Ren met her gaze easily. "…Or what?"

"…I might start enjoying the attention."

Erza cleared her throat loudly.

"…Both of you," she said flatly.

Ren smiled. Mira laughed.

Guild chaos resumed.

---

Slice of Life — Fairy Tail Style

The afternoon dissolved into its usual rhythm.

Gray and Natsu fought over nothing.

Cana cheated at cards openly.

Elfman declared everything "manly," including the table he accidentally broke.

Ren sat between Erza and Mira at their usual table.

"…You're staring again," Erza muttered.

"…Observing," Ren corrected. "There's a difference."

Mira leaned in from the other side. "…Which one of us are you observing?"

Ren didn't hesitate. "…Yes."

Mira laughed outright.

Erza's ears turned pink.

"…You're insufferable," Erza said.

"…You say that like it's a flaw."

Mira rested her chin on her hand. "…You don't flirt like other boys."

"…How do other boys flirt?"

"…Badly."

Ren nodded thoughtfully. "…I'll take that as a compliment."

Erza huffed. "…Don't encourage him."

Mira smiled softly.

> He doesn't chase, she realized.

He waits—and somehow that's worse.

---

The Whisper Beneath the Calm

It started subtly.

Cana's cards bent strangely during a reading.

Levy complained about magical fluctuations near the forest edge.

Makarov frowned more often than usual.

Ren felt it during meditation.

> [Great Sage: Anomaly detected — dimensional resonance fluctuation.]

Ren's eyes opened slowly.

"…Edolas?" he whispered.

> [Great Sage: Probability — Low but non-zero.]

He exhaled carefully.

> Not yet, he thought. But soon.

That night, Mirajane stood alone on the guild balcony, staring at the stars.

Her breathing was steady.

Perfect.

And yet—

Her chest felt tight.

"…You're thinking loudly again," Ren said gently, joining her.

She blinked. "…That's my line."

"…I learned from the best."

She smiled—but it didn't reach her eyes.

"…Do you ever feel like things are going too well?" she asked.

Ren leaned against the railing. "…Often."

"…That's not comforting."

"…It's honest."

She glanced at him. "…My missions lately… I don't lose control anymore. Not even a little."

"…That's good."

"…Is it?" she asked quietly. "…Or am I just pushing it deeper?"

Ren didn't answer immediately.

"…Control without understanding can crack," he said carefully. "But understanding without control can destroy."

She nodded slowly.

"…If I break," she whispered, "…will you stop me?"

Ren met her gaze. "…I'll stand with you."

She smiled faintly.

From the doorway—

"…You're both needed," Erza said. "Master called a briefing."

---

The Name That Shouldn't Hurt (Yet)

Makarov stood before them, expression grave.

"…We've received reports," he said. "Magic disturbances. Strange disappearances. And rumors."

"…What kind of rumors?" Mira asked.

Makarov hesitated.

"…Of a girl," he said slowly. "…With white hair. Appearing in places she shouldn't exist."

The room went quiet.

Mira's breath caught.

"…That's impossible," she whispered.

Ren felt it then—

A flicker.

A pull.

> Edolas resonance, he thought sharply.

Erza glanced at Mira. "…You know her?"

Mira swallowed. "…My sister."

Silence fell like a weight.

Makarov sighed. "…It's not confirmed. Just sightings."

Ren's hands clenched at his sides.

> The arc has begun.

---

Light Before the Fall

Later that night, Fairy Tail returned to its noise.

Laughter louder than fear.

Joy stubborn as ever.

Ren sat with Erza and Mira beneath the lanterns outside.

"…If this is nothing," Mira said softly, "…then we laugh about it later."

Erza nodded. "…And if it's something?"

Ren looked at both of them—two forces of will, standing on the edge of fate.

"…Then we face it," he said. "…Together."

Mira leaned closer. "…You promise that a lot."

"…Because I mean it."

She smiled—genuine, warm.

Erza looked away—but didn't move.

The stars above Magnolia shone brightly.

Unaware.

Unconcerned.

> Perfect days always come before storms, Ren thought.

And this one… will change everything.
