We descend.
The second floor is completely different from the first.
We step out of the staircase into a vast underground forest. The ceiling is so high it's lost in shadows, and from somewhere far above, light filters down. It's not sunlight, but a strange greenish glow that makes everything look slightly unreal.
Trees grow here, massive and ancient, their trunks thick and gnarled. But they're eerie. The bark is too smooth, too uniform in color. A dark grey that seems to absorb light rather than reflect it. The leaves are oversized, some as large as dinner plates, and they shimmer with an oily iridescence.
Vines hang everywhere, thick as a person's arm, covered in thorns that glisten with moisture. The undergrowth is dense with ferns and moss and plants I don't recognize, all of them oversized and vaguely threatening.
The air is humid and thick, harder to breathe than on the first floor. It smells of earth and rot and growing things, but with an underlying chemical tang that makes my nose itch.
Water drips from somewhere, a constant rhythmic sound. In the distance, I hear things rustling in the undergrowth, calls that might be birds or might be something else entirely.
This is like a jungle, but twisted. A fever dream version of a forest.
[Angel 2] "The mana density has increased significantly."
We move forward carefully, pushing through the undergrowth.
The monsters here are different from the first floor.
A massive insect emerges from beneath a fallen log, the size of a cow. Its carapace covered in sharp, barbed spines that drip with venom. Its mandibles can crush stone.
---
[Appraisal]
Thornback Beetle
Giant insectoid creature that dwells in dense undergrowth. Heavily armored carapace covered in venomous spines that deter most predators. Mandibles strong enough to shear through metal. Slow-moving but incredibly durable. Weak point is the softer underbelly.
---
I handle this one, flipping it over with a well-placed kick and striking the vulnerable underside. It dies instantly.
A snake-like creature drops from the canopy above. Fifteen feet long, covered in overlapping scales that look like sharp leaves. When it moves, the scales rustle like wind through trees.
---
[Appraisal]
Razorleaf Serpent
Ambush predator that blends perfectly with jungle foliage. Scale pattern mimics leaves so precisely that it's nearly invisible when still. Lightning-fast strikes inject paralytic venom that immobilizes prey. Excellent climber and swimmer.
---
Takeshi takes this one, his fire magic making quick work of it despite its camouflage.
Then something larger appears.
An enormous feline creature moves through the undergrowth without a sound. It's the size of an elephant, with midnight-black fur marked by glowing green stripes. Its eyes reflect light like a cat's, and when it opens its mouth, I see rows of teeth designed for tearing.
---
[Appraisal]
Jungle Stalker
Apex predator of deep jungle environments. Completely silent movement despite massive size. Enhanced senses can track prey by heartbeat alone. Incredibly strong and fast, with reflexes that let it catch flying prey mid-air. Territorial and aggressive.
---
This one actually makes me work a little. It's fast, faster than the monsters on the first floor. When it lunges, I have to pay attention to dodge. Its claws rake the air where I was standing a moment before, and I feel the wind of its passage.
But it's still not fast enough.
I counter with a palm strike to its shoulder, and the impact sends it tumbling through the undergrowth. It tries to get up, but I'm already there, finishing it with a strike to the head.
Ding! More level ups.
We continue through the jungle floor, fighting monsters and mapping the terrain. The angels are working overtime to document everything, their parchment now covered in detailed sketches of the new environment.
As we walk, I strike up a conversation with Lucien.
[Wright] "Are there other dungeons in the world?"
[Lucien] "Many. Dungeons appear naturally in areas where energy concentrates. Some are small, only a few floors. Others are massive, with dozens of levels."
[Sylphaeris] "They're valuable resources. Monster materials, rare plants, magic crystals. Dungeons produce all sorts of useful items."
[Lucien] "When a dungeon appears, a city usually forms around it. The adventurer's guild establishes a branch, merchants set up shops, and people come from all over to explore and harvest resources. Dungeon gold has even become a form of universal currency"
[Wright] "I'd love to visit one of those cities sometime."
[Lucien] "I can recommend several. There's a particularly well-established dungeon city in Rathen that would interest you."
We eventually reach another large door.
Boss room number two.
The chamber beyond is similar in size to the first boss room, but the environment matches the jungle theme. Trees grow inside, their roots breaking through the stone floor. Vines hang from the ceiling, creating a natural curtain that obscures much of the space.
And in the center, something moves.
A massive gorilla-like creature rises from a crouch, easily twenty feet tall when fully upright. Its body is covered in thick moss and bark instead of fur, and flowers bloom from its shoulders and back. Its eyes glow with green light, and when it beats its chest, the sound echoes like thunder.
Roots emerge from the ground around it, thick and gnarled, moving like tentacles.

[Appraisal]
Verdant Guardian
Nature spirit given physical form through concentrated jungle mana. Moss, bark, and flowers form its structure. Can control plant life within its territory, using roots and vines as weapons. Regenerates damage by drawing nutrients from surrounding vegetation. Extremely strong and durable. Fire is particularly effective.
---
[Wright] "I'll take this one."
The guardian roars and charges.
Roots burst from the ground, trying to grab my legs. I dodge, leaping to the side as a massive fist crashes down where I was standing. The impact creates a crater in the stone floor.
Vines drop from above, attempting to entangle me. I tear through them with simple hand movements, the plant matter shredding like paper.
The guardian is stronger than the monsters I've faced so far. Its attacks are coordinated, roots from below, vines from above, fists striking from the front. It's trying to overwhelm me with multiple angles of attack.
But it's still not enough.
I dart in close, too close for the roots to target effectively, and drive my fist into its torso. The bark cracks, moss tears away, and I feel the impact travel through its entire body.
It staggers back, roaring in pain. Flowers fall from its shoulders.
It tries to regenerate, pulling nutrients from the surrounding plants. I see the damage beginning to close, bark growing back over the wound.
I don't give it the chance.
I channel mana into my hands. Not a spell, just raw energy, and strike again. This time targeting the glowing green core I can see through the damaged bark.
The guardian's roar cuts off abruptly. The green light in its eyes flickers and dies. Its massive body sways, then collapses forward, crushing the vegetation beneath it as it falls.
Ding! Ding! Ding!
Multiple level-ups cascade through me.
I check my status. I've reached level 40 now. And my mana reached 45,000!
[Wright] "Wow. That was fast."
Lucien is staring at me with an expression I can't quite read.
[Lucien] "That boss would normally require multiple A-rank adventurers working together to defeat. This must be a high-difficulty dungeon. We should exercise caution as we descend further."
Another treasure chest appears. This one contains several hundred gold coins and a necklace with a small green gem. Aiko appraises it as a Nature's Blessing charm that provides minor healing over time.
Takeshi takes this one.
The staircase appears, leading down to the third floor.
We descend once more.
The third floor is caves.
Dark, twisting passages carved through solid rock. The ceiling drips with moisture, and the air is cold and damp. Strange formations jut from the wall, stalactites and stalagmites. They glow with a faint bioluminescence, casting eerie blue-green light that creates more shadows than it dispels.
The passages are narrow and claustrophobic. The sound of dripping water echoes from all directions, making it impossible to tell where it's coming from. Somewhere in the distance, I hear the rush of underground rivers.
Pools of standing water reflect the dim light, their surfaces perfectly still and black as oil. I can't tell how deep they are.
The walls are rough and uneven, with cracks and crevices everywhere. Perfect hiding spots for things that don't want to be seen.
It's ominous. Oppressive. The kind of place that makes you want to keep looking over your shoulder.
[Aiko] "It's getting late. Should we head back?"
Good question. We've been exploring for hours now.
[Wright] "Is there a way to get back to the surface?"
[Sylphaeris] "The only way out is to walk back the way we came. Dungeons exist in a separate dimensional space. You can't use gate magic to open a portal to the outside."
[Lucien] "Typically, there's a teleportation circle at the end of a cleared dungeon that allows instant travel to the entrance. Most exploration parties set up camp inside the dungeon when doing extended delves."
Aiko's face lights up.
[Aiko] "I can help with that!"
She summons her camper van, and it materializes in the cave passage. The friendly, normal vehicle looks completely out of place in the ominous environment.
We all pile inside, grateful for the warmth and light and normalcy of the interior.
[Lucien] "This really does make dungeon exploration trivial."
He's right. Having a mobile base with food, beds, and a bathroom completely changes the dynamics of dungeon delving. We can explore as long as we want without worrying about supplies or rest.
The inside is large. Way larger than last time.
[Wright] "It seems the space has expanded."
[Aiko] "Let me check my skill."
Her face lights up.
[Aiko] "It seems that my level up has caused the space to expand further. There's now three separate bedrooms and there's even a navigation function. It's like a home on wheels now."
What a great skill.
[Wright] "What a great skill. We should celebrate! I know just what to make for dinner."
I head to the kitchen area to start preparing.
This has been an incredible day. I've leveled up more in a few hours than I would have in months of sitting around the farm. And there are still more floors to explore.
But first, food. Everyone's exhausted and hungry after hours of dungeon exploration.
I pull up my status screen and check my mana.
---
Mana: 45,000/45,000
---
Perfect. With all the leveling up, I have way more mana to work with now. Time to actually use that Online Shopping skill properly.
I open the interface, and the familiar menu appears. Categories line the left side, product displays on the right.
Let me make something good. Something from Earth that everyone will love.
I navigate to the Food section and start searching. Japanese curry, that's a crowd-pleaser. Rich, savory, filling. Perfect after a long day of fighting monsters.
I search for curry roux blocks. Several brands appear. I select a medium-spicy variety that comes in a box of twelve cubes.
Price: 6,000 mana.
That's reasonable now. I add it to cart.
Next, vegetables. I search for potatoes, carrots, and onions. They come in pre-packaged sets.
Price: 4,000 mana for a mixed vegetable pack.
I add it.
Rice. Can't have curry without rice. I find a 5-kilogram bag of premium Japanese short-grain rice.
Price: 8,000 mana.
That's expensive, but it'll last for multiple meals. I add it to cart.
I also grab some chicken breast meat.
Price: 5,000 mana.
My cart total: 23,000 mana.
That's more than half my mana pool, but I can afford it now. This would have been impossible yesterday.
I take a deep breath and click checkout.
The drain hits immediately.
The sensation is intense but not painful. Just deeply strange, like watching water drain from a bathtub but feeling it happen inside your own body.
Then, with a solid thump, a cardboard box materializes on the counter in front of me. Inside are the curry roux, the vegetables, the rice, and the chicken. All packaged exactly as they would be in a Japanese supermarket, complete with labels covered in kanji and product information.
I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding.
[Wright] "Okay. That wasn't as bad as last time."
The first time I used this skill, I nearly passed out from draining 8,000 mana. Now 23,000 barely fazes me. The level-ups made a real difference.
I start unpacking everything.
The curry roux comes in a box containing individually wrapped cubes that smell faintly of spices even through the packaging. The vegetables are fresh and perfectly formed. Potatoes with smooth skin, bright orange carrots, onions with papery outer layers. The chicken is pale pink and neatly trimmed. The rice bag is heavy and satisfying in my hands.
Time to cook.
I pull out a large pot from the camper van's storage and fill it with water, setting it on the stove to boil for the rice. While that heats up, I start preparing the vegetables.
The potatoes get peeled and cut into large chunks. Big enough to hold their shape during cooking but small enough to cook through. The carrots get the same treatment, cut into thick rounds. The onions get diced into roughly quarter-inch pieces.
The chicken breast gets cut into bite-sized cubes. The meat is firm and fresh, cutting cleanly under my knife.
Once the water boils, I add the rice and reduce the heat to a simmer, covering it with a lid. Japanese rice needs to steam properly; too much stirring ruins the texture.
In a second pot, I heat some oil from the camper van's supplies and add the onions first. They sizzle immediately, releasing that sweet, sharp aroma. I stir them until they start to turn translucent and golden at the edges.
Then the chicken goes in. It browns quickly, the outside turning white and firm while staying tender inside. I make sure each piece gets some color before adding the potatoes and carrots.
Everything gets stirred together, the vegetables picking up the flavor from the browned chicken and caramelized onions.
I add water. Just enough to cover everything with about an inch to spare. And bring it to a boil. Then I reduce the heat and let it simmer. The vegetables need to cook until tender, which takes about twenty minutes.
The smell is already incredible. Savory and rich, filling the camper van.
While that simmers, I check the rice. Perfect! Tender and fluffy, each grain separate but sticky enough to clump together properly. I turn off the heat and let it rest.
Once the vegetables are tender enough that a fork can slide through the potatoes easily, I turn off the heat and add the curry roux cubes.
This is the crucial part. The cubes need to dissolve completely without burning. I break them apart with a spoon, stirring constantly as they melt into the liquid. The mixture transforms, turning from clear broth into thick, dark, glossy curry sauce.
The aroma intensifies dramatically. The spices in the roux release, blending with the sweetness of the vegetables and the savory depth of the chicken.
I turn the heat back on low and let it simmer for a few more minutes, stirring occasionally. The curry thickens further, becoming rich and velvety.
[Takeshi] "What is that smell?!"
He appears from the dining area, drawn by the aroma. The others follow, Aiko, the angels, Lucien, even Sylphaeris with an interested expression.
[Wright] "Dinner. Japanese curry."
[Aiko] "Oh my god, I haven't had curry since we left Earth!"
[Wright] "It's all thanks to the Online Shopping skill. Finally had enough mana to use it properly."
I start plating. A generous scoop of rice on each plate, then a ladleful of curry poured over the top. The dark sauce pools around the white rice, chunks of chicken and vegetables visible throughout.
The presentation is simple but appealing. The contrast between the white rice and dark curry, the visible pieces of potato and carrot, the glossy sheen of the sauce.
Everyone gathers around the dining table with their plates.
The first bites are met with silence. The good kind, where everyone's too busy eating to talk.
[Takeshi] "This is incredible."
[Aiko] "It tastes exactly like home."
The angels are experiencing it for the first time, and their reactions are enthusiastic.
[Angel 1] "The complexity of flavor is remarkable!"
[Angel 2] "Sweet and savory at the same time, with this lingering warmth from the spices."
[Lucien] "The chicken is tender, the vegetables are cooked perfectly. This is exceptional."
Even Sylphaeris looks pleased.
[Sylphaeris] "You've outdone yourself."
I eat my own portion with satisfaction. The curry is exactly right; not too spicy, not too mild, with that perfect balance of sweetness and savory depth that good Japanese curry has. The rice provides the perfect neutral base, and the vegetables add texture and substance.
This is what the Online Shopping skill was meant for. Not just buying things, but bringing the best of Earth's cuisine to this world.
[Wright] "I'm glad everyone likes it. And the good news is, with my increased mana pool, I can actually afford to use this skill regularly now."
[Takeshi] "Does that mean more Earth food?"
[Wright] "Whenever we want it."
The mood in the camper van is warm and content. Everyone's tired from the day's exploration, but satisfied with the progress we made. Full stomachs and good company make the ominous cave floor outside feel distant and unimportant.
After dinner, we clean up and start preparing for sleep. The camper van has enough room with the expanded space, though it's a bit cramped with this many people.
Tomorrow, we'll continue exploring. There are more floors to discover, more monsters to fight, more treasures to find.
