Chapter 2 - Proof Of Potential

The days following their battle with the wyvern passed in a haze of rest and recovery. Zephyr and Aron both spent their time at the clinic, a mixture of healing potions, bandages, and quiet exchanges showing the routine. The pain was still fresh in their bodies, but the excitement of their next steps soon overpowered the discomfort. Soon they were discharged and walked outside the clinic, where Lya was waiting for them, her arms crossed as she leaned against a pillar.

Aron: "Finally out of that damn place!"

Zephyr: "Yeah."

Lya chuckled, her posture relaxed as she grinned. "Looks like you guys are lively, huh?"

Both: "Damn right."

They walked around the city, looking around at the bustling streets and asking for directions to Lumenfall Academy. After a while, they finally reached the gates, where the large, imposing walls of the academy stood before them.

Zephyr: "So, what's this exactly?"

Aron: "Lumenfall, duh. Only the best academy in the city." He waved his hand dismissively, a smirk tugging at his lips.

Lya: "Yep, it's one of the most prestigious here." She nudged Aron with her elbow, her voice full of pride.

Zephyr: "I see."

They entered, their gazes shifting upwards as they marveled at the sheer size of the plot and the sprawling buildings. Inside, they followed the signs that led them to the Head Minister's Office.

They knocked on the door, with Zephyr's hand resting nervously on the doorframe.

Head Minister: "Come in!"

All 3: "Good afternoon, Head Minister."

The head minister, an older man with a calm and commanding presence, gestured for them to enter.

Head Minister: "And who might you three be?"

Aron: "Aron Leven, from Pristella Village." He puffed out his chest slightly, standing tall.

Lya: "Lya Belrose, also from Pristella." She gave a small nod of acknowledgment.

Zephyr: "Hi. I'm Zephyr." He said it quietly, his voice carrying an air of uncertainty as he gave a small, awkward wave.

Head Minister: "Nice to meet you. So, I suppose you want to attend the academy?"

All 3: "Yes, sir!" they responded with enthusiasm.

Head Minister: "Before you can, you'll have to show us your skills."

Aron: "Gladly!" He gave a confident grin and raised his hand excitedly.

Lya: "Shouldn't be a problem." She straightened her posture, her voice calm yet assertive.

Zephyr remained silent, his posture more reserved.

They were led to the training grounds, and Zephyr's eyes widened in awe as they stepped out into the vast field. The open space seemed to hum with energy.

Head Minister: "Welcome to Lumenfall's training ground. If you can pass these 2 tests with flying colors, you'll be in."

The three of them exchanged glances, excitement mixing with nerves.

Head Minister: "The first test, hit a target 800meters away."

Aron: "800 meters??" He raised an eyebrow, disbelief written across his face.

Lya: "Okay, that's really far." She squinted at the distant target, folding her arms.

Zephyr stayed quiet, his expression unreadable as he observed.

Head Minister: "Who's going first?"

Aron: "I'll go first." He stepped forward, cracking his knuckles as he prepared for his turn.

He raised his arm and shouted, "EARTH CORE: TERRA SPEAR!"

The ground cracked beneath his feet, and stones floated and compressed around his arm, forming into a sharp stone spear. With a deep breath, Aron hurled the spear with all his might, it flew through the air with remarkable speed but only grazed the target's side.

Aron: "Damnit. That was my strongest throw." He exhaled sharply, frustrated.

Head Minister: "Not bad." He gave a thoughtful nod.

Aron: "Thanks." He scratched the back of his head, a grin on his face despite his disappointment.

Zephyr: "That was a good throw." He gave a small nod, his arms crossed as he spoke.

Aron: "Thanks, Zeph." He gave a thumbs-up.

Lya: "Okay, I admit, that was cool." She tilted her head slightly, trying to hide her smile.

Aron: "Heh.", He smirked.

Head Minister: "Who's next?"

Lya: "I'm next." She stepped forward, her eyes narrowing as she focused.

She shouted, "WIND CORE: WINDBREAKER!"

A massive surge of compressed air blasted forward, hitting the target with precision and blowing it apart with a gust of wind.

Aron: "Tch, you just had to one-up me, didn't you?" He clenched his fists, a teasing glint in his eyes.

Lya: "Try harder next time." She stuck her tongue out playfully.

Head Minister: "Pretty good. Who's left?"

Zephyr: "Me." He took a step forward, his hands by his sides, and his expression calm.

Zephyr took a deep breath, his chest rising and falling slowly as he centered himself. The air around him crackled with static energy as lightning surged across his body, small arcs jumping from his fingertips. With a roar, he unleashed an unrefined bolt of lightning toward the target. The bolt struck with tremendous force, disintegrating the target in a flash of light and smoke. However, Zephyr staggered back, panting, exhausted from the effort.

Zephyr: "I got it!" He wiped the sweat from his brow, chest heaving.

Aron: "That was so cool! Way to go, Zeph!" He grinned broadly, raising both arms in the air as he cheered.

Lya: "Color me impressed." She crossed her arms, pretending not to be excited but failing to hide the smile tugging at her lips.

Head Minister: "Spectacular. I've never seen anyone release that much power before. What was your name, boy?"

Zephyr: "Zephyr, sir." He wiped his brow, still panting lightly.

Head Minister: "How old are you?"

Zephyr: "Seventeen, sir." He looked the head minister in the eye, his voice steady.

Head Minister: "And how long have you had your core?"

Zephyr: "About a week."

The head minister raised an eyebrow, clearly impressed.

Head Minister: "You're already performing at this level? You're a prodigy."

Aron and Lya: "Yeah! He's powerful. He even defeated a wyvern on his own. That's how he awakened." They both chimed in, their voices filled with admiration.

Head Minister: "I see. Well, based on your accuracy and power outputs, you pass."

All 3: "Hell yeah!" They fist-bumped in unison, grinning widely.

The head minister Then Coughed and Said, "Ahem! if you would, let us move on to the second test. Please follow me."

The head minister then led them to a chamber underneath the school, and as they entered the large dark room, the doors behind them sealed shut. Moments later, the room lit up with torches.

The head minister clasped his hand behind his back and said, "The second test is how powerful is your essenz output." He paused for a moment then continued, "you will each be assigned a crystal and your jobs are to release your essenz into the crystals in order to gauge your power."

He then raised his finger and multiple crystals rose from the ground infront of them.

Head Minister: "you may now begin."

Lya stepped forward first, she inhaled slowly, a greenish aura surrounded her as she started releasing all her essenz into the crystal, the crystal instantly responded and turned blue, after Lya was done pouring all her essenz into the crystal she staggered a little while waiting for an answer.

The crystal then showed a set of numbers, exponentially growing.. "412… 750… 920…" and then finally stopping at "1150".

Lya then looked back at the head minister waiting for a look of approval, and then he spoke, "Not bad, your range is quite good to say the least, you pass."

Lya, in excitement, did a victory pose and said "YES!"

Both Zephyr And Aron then went on to congratulate her and afterwards, Aron stepped up next. He too, took a deep breath and started slowly releasing his essenz into the crystal as a dark brown glow engulfed him. After he was finished, the crystal begun showing a set of numbers gradually rising.

"300… 420… 630… 780… 822.. 980…" and finally stopping at "1220".

Aron, like lya, looked back at the head minister waiting for his approval.

Head Minister: "Wonderful, you too have done well. You pass."

Aron struck a victory pose and slapped hands with zephyr while saying "its your turn now zeph, make sure u blow this guy away!", he grinned.

Zephyr stepped up and raised his hand to the crystal, and releasing all his essenz at once, doing so, it begun to violently shake the whole chamber, a vibration so powerful it was comparable to a 6.5earthquake on the Richter scale as well as forming cracks on the crystal, and as he continued, the aura around him manifested literal lightning, meanwhile while doing so, the head minister and the others were in utter shock, unable to speak and barely able to keep their footing.

Soon after he was done, the vibrations and lightning stopped and the crystal barely holding together begun calculating at an extremely fast pace.

"4,000… 12,000.. 26,000.. 40,000… 120,000.. ERROR.." and then the crystal shattered.

The Minister, In awe, said: "Goodness boy, I've been in this academy for nearly 40 years and ive only seen that happen twice!, you pass with flying colours!"

Lya And Aron, shouted in celebration, "WHOO YOU GO ZEPH! THAT WAS INCREDIBLE!"

Zephyr with all the compliments blushed a little though, he tried to hide it almost instantly.

Head Minister: "I expect you to be in by tomorrow. You'll grow stronger here. We'll make you powerful warriors." He then led them to their dorms, opening the door for them.

Aron and Zephyr: "Woah, this is one big dorm room!" Both exclaimed in unison, eyes wide with childish excitement as they glanced around.

Lya: "Wow, it's really spacious." She walked in, glancing at the large room and the comfortable furnishings.

Head Minister: "Spacious indeed. Only the finest rooms for our students. I'll see you tomorrow. Be in class early." He gave them a nod before tossing them the keys.

All 3: "Sir, yes sir!" They saluted in perfect unison, laughing together.

After the Head Minister left, the three of them settled into their respective rooms. Aron headed straight for his, closing the door behind him with a loud thud. Zephyr, after a moment, turned to Lya and asked, his voice soft and casual.

Zephyr: "Soo, how did you and Aron meet?"

Lya: "We've been childhood friends as long as I can remember. We did everything together." She smiled at the memory.

Zephyr: "Cool. Uh, I guess I'll go catch some sleep as well. Bye." He turned, rubbing his eyes, and gave a small wave.

Lya: "Bye." She waved back, her expression soft.

They each retired to their rooms, and the next morning they woke up early, washing up and preparing for their first day of classes. After wandering the halls for a bit, they eventually found their class

Teacher: "New students, I presume?"

Aron: "Yep!"

Teacher: "Then introduce yourselves to the class."

Aron stepped up first: "Names Aron, I'm 18, and my core is Earth."

Lya went next: "Names Lya, I'm Also 18, and my core is Wind."

Zephyr went last: "I'm Zephyr, I'm 17, and my core is Lightning."

Class: "Nice to meet you!"

Teacher: "Alright, go sit down."

Aron Sat Down Next To A Man With Long Purple Hair

Lya Sat Alone At The Back Of The Class While Zephyr Sat Next To A White Haired Boy With A Strange Mark On His Cheek.

Zephyr: "hey", he said nervously while waving to his classmate.

The white-haired boy turned, his violet eyes gleaming softly.

Classmate: "Hey, Name's Julian. You're Zephyr, right?"

Zephyr nodded, a small smile tugging at his lips.

Zephyr: "Yeah, nice to meet you."

Julian returned the smile, his tone calm but warm.

Julian: "Nice to meet you too."

Just then, the Teacher cut their brief conversation short.

Teacher: "Today, we're going to be discussing Essenz and Cores. A fundamental understanding if you wish to grow as students at Lumenfall Academy."

The students quieted down, and the teacher turned to the blackboard, where she began to write the words "Essenz & Cores" in large letters.

Teacher: "Essenz is the flow of energy through every living being. It's what makes us move, fight, and grow. Everyone is born with Essenz, some more, some less. The amount of Essenz you're born with directly affects how strong your abilities can become and how long you can maintain them in a fight."

Zephyr leaned forward, intrigued. The teacher continued.

Teacher: "Think of it as the fuel for your core. When you use your core abilities, Essenz flows through it. The more Essenz you have, the longer you can keep using your abilities, but the more Essenz you spend, the sooner you'll run out. When that happens, you won't be able to use your core until your Essenz recharges."

Julian: "So we're like batteries?"

The teacher nodded.

Teacher: "Exactly. You can think of it that way. The energy particles around you are absorbed by your body, replenishing your Essenz over time. However, how well you can refine and control your Essenz will determine how efficiently you can use it."

Zephyr Spoke Out and Said "Refining Essenz? How does that work?"

The teacher looked over at him, her expression softening.

Teacher: "Refining your Essenz is about control. It's about learning to focus your energy, not waste it. The more you can refine it, the longer you can keep your core active without burning yourself out."

Zephyr nodded slowly, absorbing the information. His mind was already racing, considering how his lightning abilities would change if he could refine his Essenz. But then, the teacher redirected her attention.

Teacher: "Next, we have Cores. Cores are the source of your abilities. They're spiritual constructs that are tied to your soul, not everyone can use their core immediately. To awaken your core, you need a triggering event, something intense. It could be the result of rigorous training, intense emotional trauma, or even a dance with death. Furthermore, awakening results in increased physicals, data shows that those who've awakened are 300% stronger than the fittest unawakened athlete.

Zephyr couldn't help but think back to the wyvern. The intense battle, the near-death experience. It made sense now. That was what had pushed him to awaken his lightning core. He glanced at Lya, who seemed deep in thought as the teacher continued.

Teacher: "Once your core is awakened, you can begin to flow your Essenz through it. However, the abilities you gain aren't automatically unlocked. You need to train, learn, and create your own moves. Your core is like an engine, and Essenz is like the fuel that powers it."

Julian: "So it's not just about having the core. You have to make it your own, and feed it"

The teacher smiled, nodding.

Teacher: "Exactly. You can't just rely on your core's raw potential. It's up to you to push the limits, experiment, and evolve."

Zephyr looked around the room, his gaze briefly meeting Lya's and Aron's. He knew they were all thinking the same thing, this academy was going to test them, but they were ready.

The weeks that followed became a whirlwind of action and growth, with every moment at the academy pushing Zephyr and his friends closer to their limits.

On the training grounds, Zephyr stood under a sky heavy with clouds, sparks crawling along his arms. A wooden target, charred from repeated blasts, stood fifty meters away. His brow furrowed as he extended his palm, directing his energy.

Julius, leaning casually against a nearby post with his arms crossed, called out.

Julius: "Ease up, Zeph. You're too stiff. The lightning's fighting you because you're trying to force it."

Zephyr shot him a quick glare, sweat dripping from his forehead.

Zephyr: "I know that. Doesn't mean it's easy."

Julius pushed off the post, stepping closer. He raised a hand and gestured in a slow, deliberate motion.

Julius: "Essenz isn't a weapon you wield, it's a current you guide. Relax. Breathe."

Taking a deep breath, Zephyr steadied his stance, loosening his shoulders. He closed his eyes and focused. The crackling energy within him calmed, like a storm settling into a gentle rhythm. When he opened his eyes, the lightning leapt from his fingers in a brilliant arc, striking the target dead center.

Julius: (grinning) "See? Told you it's all about the flow."

Zephyr lowered his hand, exhaling in relief.

Zephyr: "Don't let it go to your head, Kael. I'm just warming up."

Not far away, Aron was being loud. He stomped a foot into the ground, and the earth beneath him rippled like water. A jagged boulder shot up in front of him. He clenched his fists and let out a roar, shattering the rock into chunks with a single punch.

Aron: "Ha! That's how you do it!" He turned to Zephyr, grinning wildly. "Let's see your lightning take on this!"

Without warning, he hurled a chunk of the shattered boulder toward Zephyr.

Zephyr: "Seriously?" He barely had time to react, twisting his body and shooting a bolt of lightning at the rock. The explosion sent fragments flying, a mix of sparks and stone scattering across the field.

Julius: (laughing) "You two are going to wreck the grounds. Groundskeeper's not gonna love that."

Zephyr dusted himself off, glaring at Aron.

Zephyr: "Next time, give me a warning."

Aron: "Where's the fun in that?"

Meanwhile, Lya trained with a quiet intensity on the grounds. She hovered a few feet above the ground, arms outstretched as currents of air swirled around her. Her movements were fluid, almost dance-like, as she leapt into the air, twisting and turning.

Zephyr watched as she created a concentrated gust that shot her higher into the sky. She flipped gracefully, landing with barely a sound.

Zephyr: "Show-off."

Lya smirked, brushing a strand of hair from her face.

Lya: "It's not my fault wind looks better than sparks. Maybe you should work on your style, Zeph."

Before he could respond, a sudden gust of wind whipped past him, nearly knocking him off balance. Lya's smirk widened.

Zephyr: "Alright, that's it!" He raised his hand, lightning flickering at his fingertips.

Julius: (stepping between them) "Hey, hey, no frying each other. Save it for when you spar."

The academy wasn't just about training, though. The common room became a hub of activity in the evenings, where students gathered to share stories and techniques.

One particular night, Zephyr found himself in a heated debate with Kaede, a fiery girl with hair that seemed to smolder at the tips.

Kaede: "I'm just saying, fire is the most versatile element. You can attack, defend, and intimidate all at once." She flicked her fingers, a small flame dancing on her palm.

Zephyr: "Versatile? Sure. But lightning's faster. And let's not forget the fact that it's harder to dodge a bolt than a flame."

Across the room, Kaito leaned against the wall, his shadowy aura making the corners of the room seem darker. He spoke quietly, his voice carrying an edge.

Kaito: "Both are loud. Shadows strike before you even see them coming."

The room grew quiet for a moment as the weight of his words sank in. Kaede rolled her eyes.

Kaede: "Yeah, yeah, shadows are scary. You still lose every sparring match against me."

Zephyr chuckled, the tension breaking. These moments, though small, forged bonds that went beyond training.

Late one evening, after another grueling day, Zephyr sat by the window of his dorm. The city lights below flickered like distant stars, and the hum of his core felt steady now, a far cry from the unstable power it once was.

He glanced at his reflection in the glass, his face marked with faint scorch marks. He clenched his fists, his resolve hardening.

Zephyr (to himself): "I won't just learn. I'll become strong. Strong enough to protect them all."

Later that night, Zephyr sat on the dorm room floor with his legs crossed, he was surrounded by a tiny pile of belongings, keepsakes from his time at the academy. He went through the old scraps of cloth he'd collected during training sessions, a silver pendant he'd found in the city markets, and other unique keepsakes that now held value in his journey.

As he sorted through the items, his hand stoppedon a worn-out leather pouch buried deep beneath the rest. Curiosity taking the better of him, he untied the cord and tipped the contents onto the floor. Out fell a small crystalline shard, glowing faintly. The Anocdyte shard, Zephyr's breath caught as he stared at it, memories rushing back like a tidal wave. His expression softened, a mix of nostalgia and sadness flickering in his eyes.

He picked it up and turned the shard over in his fingers, its edges catching the dim light. Zephyr leaned back, holding the shard.

Zephyr(thinking):" Oh yeah… I remember this. The Anocdyte shard that old man gave me."

He exhaled softly, slowly increasing his grip on the shard.

Zephyr(thinking):" I think I'll turn this into something more... perhaps a keepsake in honor of his memory."

Zephyr stood up, walking across the room to his desk. He searched the drawers, pulling out a leather cord and a small, sturdy clasp he'd used for repairs in the past, with a determined expression he got to work.

He moved his hands with the utmost care and precision. After some time, Zephyr leaned back, holding up his new creation. The shard now hung firmly from the leather cord, simple yet meaningful. He slipped it over his neck, letting the shard settle against his chest.

Zephyr glanced out the window, his hand instinctively brushed against it.

Zephyr(thinking): "You're still with me, old man."

The next morning, the students were assembled in the academy's training field. The sky was clear, and the sun was shining as bright as ever. The students were eagerly chatting between themselves, wondering why they had all been assembled, each one feeling a mix of emotions.

Zephyr stood among his peers proudly, his fists clenched from excitement. Lya was beside him with her arms crossed, her eyes scanning the field with curiosity. Aron, on the other hand, cracked his knuckles, a cocky grin plastered across his face. Then he turned his gaze towards Zephyr and noticed his necklace.

Aron: "Nice dude! Cool necklace, where'd you get it from?"

Lya, disturbed by the loudness of Aron, chimed in.

Zephyr: "Oh this thing?" He held up the necklace, then shortly after replied with, "The shard was a gift from someone I used to know. I found it last night while going through my stuff and thought it would make a killer necklace."

Aron: "Well, you, my friend, have got some good taste."

Lya: "I agree, it looks good on you," with a soft smile.

Zephyr blushed slightly and said, "Thanks guys."

Suddenly, their conversation was cut short as the head teacher shouted, "QUIET!"

The students all jolted and stopped talking, nervously awaiting what the Head Teacher would say.

The head teacher walked up in front of all of them before she began to speak.

Head Teacher: "Today marks the 11th month you've all been here at Lumenfall Academy, refining your skills."

She paused for a moment before speaking again.

Head Teacher: "I believe you all are ready to start missions. These missions will test your skills, teamwork, and resolve. Each mission will push you to your limits, and if you're wise, beyond them." She paused for a moment before speaking again. "You will each form groups of 3. So, choose your comrades carefully and take account of your strengths and weaknesses. From this day forward, not only will your life be at stake, but your comrades' as well. So, make sure you are all each other's shield and spear."

The students began to cheer and talk rapidly amongst each other. Slowly but surely, groups were formed among them. Aron immediately clapped a hand on Zephyr's shoulder.

Aron: "That's one spot down. You're with me, Zeph."

Zephyr (jokingly): "Hey!? Who said I agreed to that!"

Aron (grinning): "Yeah, love you too, bud."

Lya rolled her eyes and began to speak.

Lya (sighing): "Well, if you two idiots are gonna be together, might as well join you guys to make sure you don't get killed."

Aron and Zephyr: "HEY!"

Aron (mockingly): "Us? Get killed? Oh, please, as if. You're just joining us because you want to take the spotlight from me and Zeph."

Lya: "If it keeps you alive, then sure. I'll gladly take it."

Zephyr was holding back his laughter. Despite the bickering, there was a sense of trust between them.

The Head Teacher's voice cut through the loud commotion once more.

Head Teacher: "If you're all done forming groups, then report to the mission board and you'll be assigned your first missions based on your group's skill level. Remember, this is not a game. Don't make choices that you'll regret."

The students began moving, their energy a mix of nervousness and excitement. Zephyr glanced at his partners and gestured them to follow him as they made their way to the mission board and stood among the line of students waiting to be handed out their missions.

Aron: "Bet they give us something easy. I mean, come on, how hard could it even be?"

Lya raised an eyebrow, her voice ringing with amusement.

Lya: "Says the guy who almost blew himself up in training last week."

Aron was about to retort back, but Zephyr cut him off and said, "Guys, stop yapping. It's almost our turn to get handed out a mission."

Upon getting their turn, a stern-looking man with a trimmed beard and piercing eyes spoke up.

Mission Officer: "I'm Maru, the guy who'll be giving you your missions."

The 3 bowed and said, "Nice to meet you!"

The 3 got back up and awaited the officer's response.

Mission Officer: "Nice to see that you're lively. So, name and team members?"

Zephyr hesitated for a second before clearing his throat and speaking.

Zephyr: "Uhm… Me, Zephyr. My team members are Aron Leven and Lya Belrose"

The officer arched an eyebrow, his pen scraping against the long list of paper as he jotted down their names.

Mission Officer: "Zephyr… A-ranked student. Your teammates, Aron and Lya, both B+. Interesting mix."

He tapped his pen on the desk as he studied the trio.

Mission Officer: "Based on your rankings and individual strengths, you'll be assigned to… Mission 12: Essenz Surge."

Aron: "Essenz Surge?"

Mission Officer: "Yes. Your team will travel northeast to a village called Sylvaris, situated 300 miles from the city. It's located near a forest that has been outputting massive and powerful essenz surges. The natural phenomena have been erratic, unpredictable weather storms, unnatural creature sightings, and concerning advances. This has been affecting the nearby area and village for weeks, and we need you to go and investigate it. Report back as much information as you can and take out anyone or anything standing in your way. This mission is one of many that is top priority."

Lya: "And if we fail?"

Mission Officer: "Failure isn't an option. You must find out why or what is causing this and neutralize the threat. If you don't, then we risk the fact that the surges could get stronger, eventually affecting our entire country. Got it?"

All 3: "Yes, sir!"

The mission officer then handed them a folded piece of paper with the route to the village, and Zephyr took it and put it in his pocket.

Mission Officer: "May luck be on your side."

Zephyr (thinking): "This is our first real mission, and it's a heavy-duty one. We can't afford to screw up…

As Zephyr, Aron, and Lya walked away from the mission board and towards the school's gates, the noises of their fellow students faded into the background, and the severity of the mission hung over them.

Aron broke the silence first, his voice light but filled with excitement.

Aron: "300 miles northeast, huh? Sounds like a good workout. Can't wait to walk there!"

Zephyr looked at Aron, surprised.

Zephyr: "Woah, who said anything about walking there?! I'm not walking 300 miles, dude."

Lya rolled her eyes and spoke back to Aron.

Lya: "Yeah, we're not walking 300 miles. We're not some workout freak like you, Aron."

Aron: "Yeah, yeah, whatever. It's still a chance to put our new skills to the test."

Lya: "You say that now, but wait until we're knee-deep in trouble. This isn't just a sparring match, Aron. This is the real deal. We have to be careful."

Aron rolled his eyes and retorted.

Aron: "Buzzkill."

Zephyr responded.

Zephyr: "She's right, Aron. We can't treat this like it's a game."

Aron: "Okay, okay, fine. Have it your way, guys."

As they neared the academy gates, the voices from the students grew fainter and fainter. A soft breeze brushed past them, ruffling their hair.

Zephyr (thinking): "If this is what it takes to prove myself, then so be it. I'm ready for anything fate pushes my way."

Aron looked at Zephyr, breaking the silence.

Aron: "So, Captain, what's the game plan? Straight over to Sylvaris, or do we get time to enjoy our time while we go over?"

Zephyr grinned, his hands in his pockets.

Zephyr: "Unfortunately for you, Aron, we won't be taking any detours. We head straight over there. If this surge is as bad as they say it is, then it could be catastrophic."

Lya: "He's right, Aron. We can't afford to mess this up."

Aron: "Yeah, I guess you're right."

Zephyr: "We'll take it one step at a time. Whatever's causing those surges, we'll stop it."

Lya nodded, her eyes narrowing as she looked over the horizon.

Lya: "I hope you're right, Zeph. I don't like the sound of erratic weather storms. It can probably mess with my wind. Doesn't really scream 'easy mission.'"

Aron chuckled, shaking his head as he cracked his knuckles.

Aron: "We won't shy away from this challenge. Not now, at least. We're gonna take this head on and come back as heroes!"

They passed through the academy gates when a carriage came to a stop in front of them. The driver, an old man with a weathered face and widebrimmed hat, climbed down from his seat. He adjusted his coat, his boots crunching on the gravel as he walked over to them.

Driver: "Greetings, I'm Elric, your driver for this journey."

Zephyr: "Nice to meet you. I'm Zephyr, and these are my friends, Aron and Lya."

Aron offered a nod, while Lya gave a polite smile.

Eldric (grinning): "A fine group you are. Well, hop on. We've got a long road ahead of us."

The three climbed into the carriage, settling themselves as Eldric mounted his seat. The vehicle creaked as he took the reins, and soon the horses began to pull the carriage along the path, heading off.
