Chapter 65 - Vertigo The Order Maker

The city still bore scars of recent destruction. Rubble littered the streets, buildings were half-collapsed, and the scent of smoke hung heavy in the air. Police sirens blared in the distance, some trying to contain chaos, others evacuating civilians from unstable areas.

Amid the commotion, a figure moved with unmatched grace and composure. Vertigo Scalaris appeared from the shadows of a broken overpass, his long coat flaring as he walked. His piercing eyes scanned the cityscape, not a single detail escaping him. Where ordinary people saw chaos, he saw patterns, order, and imbalance that needed correcting.

The police were struggling. Semi Calamity-level beasts had been sighted everywhere, and even the elite response squads were stretched thin. Vertigo approached the local precinct, where officers were frantically coordinating evacuation efforts.

A captain noticed him immediately. "Sir! Are you—"

Vertigo cut him off with a calm, sharp tone. "I am here to observe. And to intervene if necessary. Please do not obstruct my assessment."

The captain hesitated but nodded. Vertigo's presence radiated authority. Even without a badge or title, he carried the aura of someone who could easily dominate the battlefield.

Vertigo moved through the streets, analyzing the situation. Emergency broadcasts spoke of a new threat: a massive, glowing creature that had appeared near the industrial district. Citizens called it a Glowing Trex, though no one was sure if it was a natural beast or some kind of magical anomaly. The reports said it had already destroyed several city blocks, leaving a trail of molten concrete and scorching debris.

Vertigo's expression hardened. "So, this is the source of the instability," he muttered.

He arrived at the industrial district to find the Glowing Trex standing atop a ruined factory, its enormous frame glowing with pulsing, energy-infused veins. Its eyes burned like molten cores, and from its massive maw, it unleashed beams of energy that incinerated everything in their path. The streets were decimated, and a dozen police squads had been scattered like paper dolls.

Vertigo's presence was like a calm center in a storm. He extended his hand, and a faint ripple of energy emanated from his body, stabilizing the chaotic air currents around him. His Equilibrium magic was activating.

"Equilibrium—balance restored," he whispered. The air around him seemed to hum. Structures that had begun to collapse slightly righted themselves. Debris shifted to avoid him, almost as if obeying his will.

The Glowing Trex roared, shaking the ground. Beams lashed out at Vertigo, carving trenches into the street. Yet Vertigo's movements were precise and fluid. He dodged, almost gliding through the battlefield, and with a swift gesture, he manipulated the local gravitational forces around the Trex, causing it to stumble as its own beams misfired.

Police officers took note. "Who… what is that?" one officer whispered. "He's… controlling the battlefield like it's nothing."

Vertigo advanced, his aura tightening. "Calamity-level threats are not to disrupt order," he said, voice cold and unwavering. He raised his arms, and the energy from his Equilibrium magic formed a perfect, golden grid across the ground. The grid stabilized the city blocks, protecting civilians, but also constrained the Trex's movements.

The beast roared again, trying to charge Vertigo, but each step was countered by the invisible force of Equilibrium. Vertigo's eyes glowed faintly as he extended both hands, and the energy around him solidified into a golden cage that enveloped the Trex without harming it immediately.

"You're causing imbalance," Vertigo said softly. "I will correct it."

The Glowing Trex struggled, smashing against the golden restraints, but Vertigo's power was absolute. With a calm motion, he focused his energy on the Trex's core, forcing it to stabilize. The glow dimmed slightly as Vertigo's Equilibrium magic harmonized its energy with the surrounding environment.

Then, he struck decisively. A concentrated wave of energy shot from his hands, traveling in perfect symmetry around the Trex. It collided with the creature's core, overloading it in controlled precision. Unlike ordinary attacks that would destroy, Vertigo's method neutralized the beast without shattering the city further.

The Glowing Trex collapsed, not dead, but subdued. Its glow faded, leaving only a faint hum of energy as it settled to the ground. Vertigo lowered his hands, the golden grid dissolving into the air. The streets were safe, the civilians unharmed, and the police were left staring in awe.

Captain Takeda approached him, bowing slightly. "Sir… we— we have never seen anything like this. Who are you?"

Vertigo's eyes scanned the city briefly, then returned to the officer. "I am Vertigo Scalaris. Consider this intervention temporary. The city requires order, and imbalance cannot persist. I will return if further disruptions occur."

The officer's mouth opened, but Vertigo was already walking away, his long coat swaying, leaving an air of calm over the ruined district. The officers scrambled to contain the remnants of the beast, now tethered by his residual Equilibrium magic.

As Vertigo disappeared into the skyline, the captain muttered to himself, "He's… beyond anything we've ever trained for. Master rank, perhaps higher… we owe him our city today."

From a distance, the Glowing Trex lay subdued but alive, a testament to the precision and mastery of Vertigo Scalaris. The city would rebuild, but the police and civilians had seen a power that dwarfed even the most elite sorcerers.

Vertigo's presence was a warning. Calm, calculated, and unstoppable. The balance had been restored—for now. But in the shadows of the ruined streets, he already sensed the next anomaly brewing, and his eyes narrowed.

Equilibrium, he thought. Order must always be maintained. No chaos, no imbalance, no beast left unchecked.

With that, Vertigo vanished into the skyline, leaving only a stabilized city and the echoes of awe-struck policemen and civilians behind.
