Chapter 56 - Year 2

The gates of Tengen High opened again.

Year 2.

And this time, they didn't shake because of beasts, alarms, or disasters.

They shook because the strongest students in the country just casually walked back in like it was a normal school day.

Hiko Shinoegami stood in front of the massive gates, bag on his shoulder, staring up at the academy.

"…Why does it feel like I'm about to fight a final boss just to get to homeroom?"

Goru stretched his arms. "Because half the school could probably kill us now."

Kaiser flipped a coin. It landed on heads.

"Don't worry. Statistically, nothing bad will happen today."

At that exact moment, a magical billboard exploded in the distance.

Kaiser blinked. "…Minor setback."

Zenith walked calmly beside them. "We survived Semi Calamities. We can survive high school."

Holo wasn't with them.

Daizen wasn't either.

That already felt wrong.

They separated at the main hall, where giant floating screens displayed class assignments.

STUDENT PLACEMENT – YEAR 2

Hiko searched the list.

Class 2-A.

Goru: 2-A

Kaiser: 2-A

Zenith: 2-A

Hiko nodded. "Okay, at least I'm not alone."

Then he kept scrolling.

Daizen: 2-C

Holo Uto: 2-B

Hiko froze.

"…They split us."

Goru stared. "They actually split the main characters."

Kaiser looked offended. "That's illegal in at least three anime laws."

Zenith just smiled slightly. "Probably for the best. Too much power in one class causes disasters."

Hiko sighed. "Yeah… but it's still weird."

They went their separate ways.

For the first time in over a year…

They weren't all together.

---

Class 2-A.

Hiko slid the door open.

And immediately felt it.

This class was stacked.

Not elite.

Not chosen.

Just… dangerous.

Normal school on paper.

War zone in reality.

He walked in.

Thirty desks.

Thirty auras.

All different.

Some calm.

Some wild.

Some straight up unsettling.

A girl with silver eyes was sharpening a dagger made of ice.

A guy in the back was literally floating upside down, reading a book.

Someone near the window had shadow hands coming out of their hoodie.

Goru whispered, "…This is a normal class?"

Kaiser sat down. "Normal is a suggestion."

Hiko took his seat.

Name tag:

Hiko Shinoegami – Seat 17

The girl beside him looked over.

Short hair, dark skin, glowing red pupils.

"Yo. Name's Kira Vant. My magic is Impact Core."

Hiko blinked. "What does that do?"

She smiled. "Every punch I throw stores energy. The longer I fight, the more my next hit becomes a nuke."

Goru slowly turned. "…Why are you in school."

In front of Hiko sat a boy with glasses and way too many magic circles floating around him.

He turned around.

"I'm Theo Arkline. Calculation Magic. I can predict outcomes by running simulations in my head."

Hiko: "…That's just cheating."

Theo: "Yes."

Behind them, a girl with cat ears waved.

"Mimi! Illusion Beast Magic! I can turn into any creature I imagine!"

Kaiser's eyes sparkled. "That's cool."

Mimi transformed into a dragon for half a second.

The ceiling cracked.

Mimi: "Oops."

On the other side of the room, a tall guy with glowing veins spoke.

"Name's Rax. Blood Circuit Magic. My blood acts like a power grid for my body."

Zenith nodded. "Efficient."

Another student raised his hand randomly.

"I'm Soren. Null Magic. I cancel other people's magic within five meters."

The entire room went silent.

Everyone slowly shifted their chairs away from him.

Soren: "…This is why I have no friends."

Hiko exhaled.

"…This class is insane."

And then the teacher arrived.

The door opened normally.

No explosion.

No aura.

Just a woman in a long coat, coffee in hand.

She looked tired.

"Good morning, 2-A. I'm your homeroom teacher. Professor Yurei."

She looked around.

Paused.

Then sighed deeply.

"…Why do I have three Rank 0s and fifteen walking disasters in one room."

Goru raised his hand. "With respect, that's a low estimate."

Yurei took a sip of coffee.

"This year, there are no elite classes."

"Which means…"

She smiled slightly.

"…Everyone gets mixed."

The class buzzed.

No chosen.

No elite.

No safety net.

Just strong people.

All together.

---

Meanwhile.

Class 2-B.

Holo Uto walked in.

And immediately the entire room felt like a control room.

Half the students had tech based magic.

Data.

Signals.

Digital constructs.

One guy literally had satellites orbiting his head.

A girl was controlling drones made of light.

Holo adjusted his glasses.

"…This class runs on information."

Someone leaned over.

"I'm Axiom. Network Magic. I can connect minds."

Holo's eyes lit up.

"…I like this class."

---

Class 2-C.

Daizen walked in.

And felt like he entered a prison yard.

Everyone was huge.

Muscle.

Heavy mana.

Raw physical types.

Earth.

Steel.

Gravity.

One guy was literally eating rocks.

Daizen cracked his neck.

"…Finally. My people."

A girl with glowing tattoos smirked.

"Name's Brakka. Bone Forge Magic."

Another guy slammed the floor.

"I'm Durn. Pressure Magic."

Daizen smiled.

"This class is about to collapse the building."

---

Back in 2-A.

Professor Yurei wrote on the board:

Year 2 Objective: No more survival. Now it's mastery.

Yurei turned around.

"You're not here to learn how to fight."

"You're here to learn how not to die when fighting things stronger than you."

Kaiser raised his hand.

"Statistically, how likely is that?"

Yurei: "Extremely."

Hiko leaned back in his chair.

For the first time…

No titles.

No chosen.

No elite.

Just students.

Strong ones.

Weird ones.

Broken ones.

All thrown into the same school.

And somehow…

That felt even more dangerous than before.

Hiko smiled slightly.

"…This year is going to be chaos."
