"Is anyone here?"
"Hello? Is anyone here?!"
The old lighthouse remained completely silent.
Holding the flashlights they had prepared in advance, the group cautiously moved deeper inside, step by step.
After passing through the deserted corridor, they finally reached the deepest part of the lighthouse.
The room was empty.
The Professor Bill that Sam had mentioned was nowhere to be seen.
"There's no one here. Why don't we leave?" Misty said uneasily.
She really didn't want to stay any longer in this place, which felt exactly like a haunted house.
But just as Misty finished speaking, a sudden thump echoed through the room.
"Did you hear that?" Misty whispered.
"I heard it," said Ash Ketchum calmly. "It sounded like something falling."
Unlike Misty, Ash showed no fear at all. Instead, he looked excited.
He quickly identified where the sound came from.
Turning toward the source, everyone saw something unexpected—
A Kabuto sitting on a chair.
Brock and Ash followed Sam's gaze and stared in shock.
"Is that… Kabuto?" Brock asked uncertainly.
"What kind of Pokémon is Kabuto?" Ash asked curiously. "I've never heard of it before."
Misty answered without hesitation.
"Kabuto is a Pokémon that lived in the sea more than 300 million years ago. It had shining eyes on its back. But…" She frowned. "Isn't Kabuto extinct?"
"Sorry," the Kabuto suddenly said, standing up.
"I'm not Kabuto."
Everyone froze.
"T-the Pokémon talked!" Ash exclaimed excitedly.
Even though he had already seen Meowth from Team Rocket speak human language, encountering another talking 'Pokémon' still amazed him.
"Ash, didn't you hear what he just said?" Sam walked forward calmly.
"He's not a Pokémon."
Sam stopped in front of Kabuto and said confidently, "If I'm not mistaken, you're Professor Bill."
---
In the lighthouse kitchen, Bill devoured the food Brock had prepared, praising his cooking nonstop while eating.
"Professor Bill, you're really careless," Ash complained bluntly.
"You actually got yourself stuck inside a costume."
After swallowing the last bite and downing a large glass of water, Bill finally let out a satisfied sigh.
He laughed loudly, completely unconcerned by Ash's words.
"I didn't expect Kabuto's arms to be so short," Bill said cheerfully.
"I couldn't even reach the button!"
"Then why did you even go inside the Kabuto suit?" Ash asked, confused.
Misty, Brock, and Sam all leaned in slightly. This was exactly what they were wondering.
Bill wasn't the type of person to cosplay for no reason.
"Because I wanted to understand a Pokémon's heart," Bill replied seriously.
"Heart?" Ash echoed.
"Yes," Bill nodded. "Kabuto may be extinct, but they lived in this world for hundreds of millions of years. I wanted to experience how they felt while living in this world."
Sam fell into thought.
It seemed that fossil revival technology wasn't fully developed yet—otherwise, Bill wouldn't have spoken of Kabuto as an extinct Pokémon.
"Can you really feel Kabuto's emotions just by wearing a suit?" Ash asked, frowning.
Bill smiled brightly, a warm smile that filled the room.
"I believe I can."
Dong—Dong—Dong.
The old clock in the kitchen struck midnight.
Hearing the sound, Bill suddenly jumped up in excitement.
"Come with me," he said eagerly.
"To repay you for saving me, I'll show you something truly special tonight."
Sam's eyes narrowed slightly.
So it's finally coming…
After leading everyone to the observation deck at the top of the lighthouse, Bill spoke with excitement:
"That Pokémon is probably the largest Pokémon in the world. No one has ever seen its true form."
"And it's searching for its companions."
"One day," Bill continued, "I heard a voice coming from across the sea."
He took out a recorder and pressed play.
> 'I want to see you… I want to see you…'
"That's what I heard," Bill said softly.
"So I replied with the same message, using this lighthouse to broadcast my voice across the sea."
> 'I want to see you… I want to see you…'
"Then, one foggy night, the same voice responded from the ocean."
Bill turned toward the dark sea beyond the lighthouse window, his eyes shining.
"Tonight… is the day we finally meet."
