Chapter 191 - Chapter 191: A Night of "Forced" Companionship

"Leave?" Xiao Yan looked at Xun'er, his expression the picture of pure, feigned innocence.

Xun'er saw right through his act. She knew all too well the thickness of her Brother Xiao Yan's skin. "I'm going to use what you prepared. If you stay... I... I..." She buried her face in her hands, her voice muffled. Though they had long been intimate, a deep-seated shyness still overwhelmed her in moments like this.

"Alright, alright," he conceded with a soft chuckle, his tone turning gentle. "I'll stand guard outside. If anything feels wrong, or if you need anything, call for me immediately." He knew her temperament; forcing the issue could distract her during the critical absorption process. A little teasing was one thing, but her safety was paramount.

"Thank you, Brother Xiao Yan. You're too good to me." Xun'er's heart swelled with warmth at his consideration, from preparing the bath to his current protectiveness.

"Silly girl," he whispered, brushing a strand of hair from her cheek. "You are my destined wife. Being good to you is my duty for this lifetime, and every lifetime after."

Moved, Xun'er rose on her toes and sealed his words with a tender kiss. They parted only when breath became necessary, their foreheads resting together.

"Go on. Don't let the medicine cool." After reheating the water with a pulse of Dou Qi, Xiao Yan gave her one last smile and stepped out, closing the door softly behind him.

Alone, Xun'er tested the perfect temperature of the water. A sweetness, profound and serene, filled her heart. She shed her garments, revealing skin like flawless mutton-fat jade, a figure perfectly balanced between youthful grace and budding maturity. She stepped into the tub, assumed a meditative posture, and began to guide the potent, warm energy into her body.

Outside, sensing the stable, rising aura within the room, Xiao Yan relaxed his vigil slightly. Faint energy fluctuations also emanated from Hu Jia's, Xiao Yu's, and Wu Hao's rooms—a symphony of silent advancement.

Time flowed. Suddenly, a profound pressure, ancient and majestic, gently pulsed from Xun'er's chamber. Xiao Yan recognized it instantly: the aura of her ancient clan's divine bloodline. He understood that Xun'er's path was different. Her cultivation was less about arduous training and more about the gradual, guided awakening of a legacy sealed within her very soul—a legacy that would one day propel her to unimaginable heights.

Divine bloodline... truly heaven-defying, he mused. Her true meteoric rise was yet to come.

Finally, the door creaked open. Xun'er emerged, clad not in her usual greens or blues, but in a pristine white dress Xiao Yan had once gifted her. She looked ethereal, like a lotus untouched by worldly dust, a fairy descended to a clear pond.

Xiao Yan was momentarily spellbound. Seeing his dazed expression, a gentle, radiant smile blossomed on Xun'er's face. The old saying was true: a man may die for one who recognizes his worth, and a woman adorns herself for the one who holds her heart.

"Xun'er... you are breathtaking. Words fail me." His admiration was naked and profound.

A delicate blush colored her cheeks. "Brother Xiao Yan, must you always say such embarrassing things?"

He stepped closer, closing the distance. His fingers gently tucked a stray lock of her hair behind a shell-like ear. "I only speak the truth I see. It is not the dress that makes you celestial, but you who grant the dress its spirit."

Her heartbeat quickened. Under his unwavering gaze, the blush spread from her cheeks to the tips of her ears, then down her slender neck. An indescribable sweetness flooded her core, a joy so intense it was almost dizzying.

"You... you only know how to make my heart flutter," she murmured, her voice a shy, affectionate tremor. She looped her arm through his, and together they walked to the pavilion's platform.

There, they talked as the sun journeyed across the sky. Xiao Yan regaled her with tales from the deep forest. She listened, interjecting with soft laughs or playful scoldings. Their two figures, leaning close, painted a picture of vibrant, youthful affection.

Others, having finished their own cultivation, glimpsed the couple and smiled knowingly, giving them a wide berth.

They talked until the stars emerged. Xun'er, lulled by his voice and the safety of his arms, drifted into peaceful sleep. Xiao Yan carried her to bed with infinite care. Yet, even in sleep, her hand clutched his tightly.

And so, he was "forced" to stay, holding her through the night.

It was a chaste rest. Xiao Yan was acutely aware that her divine bloodline was still in a crucial stage of awakening. His love for her was a protective flame, not a reckless one that could cause harm.

Morning light filtered into the room. Xun'er awoke, the memory of her deliberate act of holding him close bringing a secret smile. It had been her silent reward for his thoughtfulness.

Though, she thought with a slight, tender exasperation, my Brother Xiao Yan is perfect in every way except for his restless hands in his sleep.

She carefully moved his hand and sat up. Sensing the unusual stillness in the room, she knew he was already awake, merely feigning sleep.

After a moment's contemplation, Xun'er bit her lower lip, a spark of determination in her eyes. She leaned down...

Later, Xiao Yan lay stretched on the bed, sighing in utter contentment. "Ahhh..."

Hearing him, Xun'er, who was rinsing her mouth by the basin, shot a "ferocious" glare his way—a glare that held no real anger, only a world of flustered charm.

Seeing her expression, Xiao Yan scrambled up with an ingratiating smile. He moved behind her, his hands skillfully massaging her slightly sore shoulders and wrists. "Ahem, that... that was just a subconscious reaction. You understand..."

"Just go," Xun'er said, though her eyes softened. "Cousin Xiao Yu is coming soon. We're going to the Blazing Sky Qi Refining Tower to cultivate today."

She turned and poked his forehead. His dazed look made her roll her eyes, a gesture that was inexplicably captivating.

"Haven't you stared enough, you blockhead?"

"Never enough. A lifetime wouldn't be enough," he declared, planting a firm kiss on her forehead before slipping out the door.

Not a minute after he left, a knock came at the door.

"Cousin Xiao Yu, just a moment!" Xun'er called out. She opened the window slightly to let in the fresh morning air, then smoothed her dress and stepped out.

"Xun'er, let's go. We need to work hard and catch up to that monster Xiao Yan someday," Xiao Yu said, linking arms with her.

Xun'er nodded in agreement, a quiet fire of resolve igniting within her. Her bloodline was slowly stirring, and her cultivation speed would soon skyrocket. She hadn't caught up to him yet, but she held an unshakable faith that one day, she would stand firmly by his side, not just as his beloved, but as his equal.
