Darian's task was completed after Steve woke up.

However, after learning the truth, Steve didn't want to stay in S.H.I.E.L.D.

For some reason, he always felt uncomfortable staying there.

Given the complexity of Steve's identity, Nick Fury couldn't force him to stay, so he arranged for Darian to help Steve familiarize himself with this new century, effectively monitoring his actions.

[NPC Nick Fury has issued you a new quest]

[Quest: Century-Old Veteran Returns]

[Objective: Help Steve Rogers familiarize himself with the 21st century and monitor his actions]

[Rewards: Experience Points +1000, S.H.I.E.L.D. Reputation +20, Steve Favorability +20, Random Equipment *1]

It must be said that quests for special NPCs like Steve are easy to complete; they are not difficult and offer generous rewards.

Compared to the measly rewards Darian got from toiling away at quests before, these were much, much better.

Some rejoice, some grieve.

Steve was quite sorrowful at the moment.

It wasn't because he now had a Black leader, but because he had just learned some terrible news.

His first love, Peggy Carter, had actually gotten married many years ago, even had two children, and had just celebrated her ninetieth birthday at home a few days ago, almost blowing out her dentures while blowing out the candles.

Well, Darian added that last sentence himself.

In short, Steve's mood was incredibly complex after hearing this news.

After all, from his perspective, he had only just woken up from a nap, and his recently-dating girlfriend had suddenly become his ex-girlfriend, whose age was even old enough to be his grandmother.

What could Steve do?

Of course, he chose to forgive her!

After all, everyone thought he had sacrificed himself, so it was perfectly normal for Peggy to start a new life.

Seeing Steve looking downcast, Darian kindly comforted him: "Steve, don't be sad yet, because I have something even sadder to tell you."

Steve: "?"

Darian explained: "Here's the thing, I checked for you. The house you used to live in was acquired by the government years ago, and based on it, the Captain America Memorial Museum was built. Now, if you want to go home, you'll have to buy a ticket to get in."

Steve: "???"

Waking up, not only was his girlfriend gone, but his house was gone too.

Could anything be more tragic than this!?

Steve gave a bitter smile: "So I'm completely alone now?"

This generation's Captain America, who once fought HYDRA valiantly for his country and people, had now fallen to such a state.

Even Darian, a HYDRA spy, couldn't help but feel a touch of sympathy.

"Look on the bright side. Since you can't change the facts, try to enjoy it," Darian advised Steve.

Steve sighed: "I know, I'll try to accept all of this."

"It's good that you understand. I'll take you around first, let you experience the charm of this free country."

As Darian spoke, he walked towards a S.H.I.E.L.D. official car by the roadside.

He pulled out a master key, jimmied open the car door, skillfully pulled out the wires under the steering wheel to hotwire it, and the car's engine instantly roared to life.

Steve: "..."

Was this a bit too much freedom?

Seeing Steve frozen in place, Darian rolled down the window and shouted: "Don't just stand there, get in!"

Steve had only recently woken up and wasn't sure if this was a custom of the new era. After a moment of hesitation, he still got into the passenger seat.

For the next period, Darian drove Steve around aimlessly, while also giving him a crash course in the culture and customs of 21st century America.

For example, people in this era could have nearly a hundred genders, robbery below a certain amount was not illegal, and the N-word had been completely removed and was out of print.

Steve listened, dumbfounded, feeling his perceptions being refreshed again and again.

He even began to suspect that he hadn't slept for seventy years, but had traveled thousands of years into the future.

They said HYDRA was destroyed, so why did this country feel even more outlandish?

As they chatted, Steve gradually opened up and talked about his own story.

During this, he mentioned that he had a good friend and comrade-in-arms, Bucky; they had fought side-by-side many times, braving life and death, and later fell off a cliff and disappeared.

Whenever Bucky was mentioned, Steve couldn't stop talking; his name appeared even more frequently than Peggy's.

Steve also recounted his last memories before he fell into slumber.

After he defeated Red Skull, the plane he was piloting was loaded with multiple destructive bombs. To prevent the plane from crashing into densely populated cities, he ultimately chose to sacrifice himself, manually controlling the plane to crash into an uninhabited ice field.

Hearing this, Darian couldn't help but ask curiously: "Then why didn't you jump out before the crash?"

Steve: "..."

Oh right! Why didn't I think of that maneuver!

Not long after, Darian took Steve to the Captain America Memorial Museum.

However, for some reason, Steve had been looking glum ever since they arrived, perhaps he hadn't adapted to this new century yet.

After paying for two tickets, Steve's mood became even more depressed.

Why did he have to pay to go home?

Inside the Captain America Memorial Museum, various deeds of Steve were displayed, and even his iconic, out-of-print uniform was preserved.

Finally, Steve saw his former residence.

The museum had preserved the items inside the house almost untouched, even the magazine with a sexy lady on the cover on the bedside table was left behind, and on the yellowed magazine, a suspicious stain was still faintly visible.

Next to it was a card, with prominent bold text stating: "Captain America's favorite reading material during his lifetime, suspected to contain traces of Captain America's personal presence."

"What do you mean 'my personal traces'!" Steve's face instantly flushed crimson. "That was Bucky's magazine! I just accidentally spilled milk on it!"

"It's okay, I believe you."

Darian said this, but his body honestly took a few steps back, moving further away from that magazine.

Steve: "..."

Just then, a familiar voice came from beside them.

"Darian, is that you?"

Darian looked in the direction of the voice and saw it was Peter, holding a camera.

"Peter? What are you doing here?" Darian asked curiously.

Peter scratched his head and explained: "You know, our school was damaged before and is still under reconstruction."

"So the school gave us an assignment to choose a great person and write a report. I chose Captain America, after all, he's been my idol since I was a kid, and then I came here to collect some related materials."

Hearing Peter's words, Steve smiled slightly.

It seemed he had quite a few fans in this era.

Just as Steve was thinking this, he heard Peter suddenly exclaim: "Oh my goodness! It's a magazine used by Captain America! So Captain America also likes to read this kind of stuff!"

As he spoke, Peter picked up his camera and frantically took pictures of the magazine.

Steve: "..."

Enough, you fake fan!
