As I slowly but surely plummeted down the tall tree the nest was perched on I almost blacked out because of the horrible luck I had faced since being born. I mean seriously, who hell gets reincarnated as bird, attacked at birth and falls down to their death in less than 30 minutes of breathing. Like, damn.
Kristen pondered her life choices while dropping to the ground at an very dangerous pace reminding her to try and save herself.
Looking around she couldn't see anything useful-no branches or trees, nothing to help her slow her fall. Right when she fell into despair she remember that she had wings and immediately opened them to slow her fall.
This half worked because Kristen was still unable to flap them and fly but at least she could slow down and look for a solution.
I observed my surrounding below me and manage to discern a river through the foliage of the trees, haphazardly aiming my wings in that direction.
'okay here goes nothing!'
I thought with determination as I edged myself closer towards the water, crashing into it with a small splash.
PLOP!
She wrestled her head above water to stay afloat, gasping for air in shallow breaths. She strained her battered body to make it out of the flowing river but was powerless to do anything because she had wings, not flippers.
Glancing ahead she saw a big rock in the middle of the water and exhuasted the last of her pitiful strength to force herself onto it.
Coughing out water I breathed in deeply and feeling the beautiful taste of air fill my damp lungs and return energy to my body I took a moment to recover a fraction of sanit-*cough cough*- energy, thinking of what to do next.
On all sides I was surrounded by water and beyond that there was thick trees on every turn, average bushes spread here and there. It was...actually suprisingly nice as I thought about the forest I was in a new window appeared in front of me.
[The Black Forest]
Description: Known for the massive black evil bird that roamed its skies, it was originally sought after by greedy humans but when they all died without a trace it became a taboo to talk about, let alone try and enter.
'...'
Speechless, Kristen stared in shock at the window for a few seconds then looked at herself then at the window again. Probably not right? right she nervously thought as she cleaned herself with her beak of all the grime from her shell, the river and nest.
Shaking from the description she calmed herself and reassessed her situation.
'I've reincarnated as a bird with my memories intact, killed my sibling and fell from a large height, somehow managing to survive by landing in a river then I saved myself from drowning by jumping on a rock'
A rumbling sound from the ravens stomach caused her to look around in embarressment even though there was no one there.
Even though she ate her eggshell a few minutes ago she still felt hungry.
Using hunger to fuel her determination she used her wings to leap off the rock and reach the riverbank, flapping wildly before crash landing on the ground.
Quickly standing up on high vigilance Kristen looked around and tentatively took a few steps forward, observing her surroundings, as she walked further into the forest she saw smooth grass as far as the eye could see, towering emerald green trees standing above her.
Knowing that nightime would come soon Kristen was hasty to find somewhere to settle down and relax after the day she had, picking up her pace she stumbled upon a bush with yummy-looking berries on it.
'maybe I should just...
NO! I don't know if they are poisonous so I'm ain't doing that'
Thoughts clashed in my head like swords but in the end I decided to maintain my safety and instead focus on finding a place to sleep. 30 or so minutes later I managed to find a tree hollow perfect for me. Thrashing my wings as hard as I could I managed to reach the hollow and awkwardly land.
Sensing killing intent I whipped my head around and saw a small mouse in the corner staring with hostility at me, seeing the small frame of the mouse I didn't have much worry as I prowled toward it and slashed it my sharp claws.
Sqeaking with fright the mouse jumped high in the air and made an escape attempt, however, Kristen would not let it go so easily and impaled it on her beak middair. The shock of killing something or someone was basically gone now for Kristen due to how she learnt about 5 seconds after being born that it was a kill or be killed world, numbing her feelings to death.
Happy with her kill, Kristen hesitated before trying the meat of the small mouse and found that it tasted...normal? Not expecting this she gobbled some more up like the big back she was and ended up eating the whole mouse. Finally feeling full she layed down on the leafy bedding that the mouse had made and realised her little claws felt stronger after killing that mouse, checking her status window she saw that [Claw] had reached lvl 2.
'Woooo lets go! At this rate I might not die in this forest'
While she thought about her new life in this strange world her thoughts drifted to when she was back on earth as a human, it wasn't a bad life but it wasn't good either-doing basically nothing besides reading and eating since she was born could be considered a kind of torture and although how she was starting to live in this world was dangerous Kristen preferred it over her past life.
Making the choice to forget about her past life morals was a impossible thing to, the only thing possible was to try and nulify them as much as possible. Everything was different in the world, there was always someone out to get out you, with this in mind the closest thing to absolute freedom and safety was becoming a deity. The feeling that she got when she met that blinding light was unshakable resolve and power, yet she couldn't even see them because she was still mortal. And although she didn't know what the shattering sound meant she was sure that the god who saved her would not be hurt easily. She contemplated how to achieve her wishes, a newfound flame of determination appearing in her fluffy little chest as she came to the realisation that the only way to be truly free was to become a deity.
'ahhhhhh I'm gonna call it a day'
She snuggled down onto the leaf as the moon rose and the day turned to night.
Somewhere far away a warm chuckle came from an elderly man sitting at table sipping tea as he watched in curiosity of what his new favourite toy would do next.
