Chapter 52 - Chapter 40: AN ISLAND CALLED?

The atmosphere in the room remained thick, the air heavy with a tension that tea and cigars couldn't soothe. Every pair of eyes was pinned on the five women who held the keys to the secret. The silence was an invitation—or a threat—to let their imaginations run wild.

Nico Robin shook her head slowly, her fingers tracing the rim of her saucer. "In the writings of our ancestors," she began, her voice a low, academic hum, "there is a story passed down through generations. Every ancient family that has survived the tides of this world knows the fragments. But the truth is... an agreement was made between the ancient clans long ago. An agreement that was never fulfilled due to... mysterious reasons."

"Ancient troubles?" Camie whispered, her eyes wide.

"Accomplished?" Nejire repeated, leaning forward until she was nearly upside down in mid-air. "What wasn't accomplished?"

Robin sighed, a sound of ancient weariness. "It was the timing. The fate. The alignment of the world..."

"An island called Adam," a voice whispered.

The word cut through the room like a cold blade. Everyone froze. Boa Hancock sat perched atop her massive snake, her gaze fixed on nothingness as she whispered the name again. Adam.

"Adam?" Nami asked, the name feeling heavy on her tongue.

Hiyori gave a solemn nod, her expression uncharacteristically grave. "We believe that this island, which appeared so suddenly fifteen years ago, is the one from the legends. The true Adam."

Vivi, Shirahoshi, and Robin nodded in grim unison.

Bello Betty exhaled a long, grey cloud of smoke, her eyes narrowing through the haze. "And how can you be so sure? How do you know that's its name?"

A stifling silence fell. Hancock gripped her own hand so tightly her knuckles turned white. Shirahoshi looked down at her lap, her shoulders trembling slightly, while Hiyori took a long, slow sip of her tea to hide the twitch in her expression.

It was Vivi who finally broke the deadlock. "That is why we are here," she said, her voice steady despite the weight of the topic. "To confirm if it is truly the place our bloodlines have searched for."

Momo leaned forward, her brow furrowed in deep thought. "If this 'Adam' is what your families have waited for all these centuries... what exactly are you going to do there? Is it something more important than a devil fruit? More important than the power to shake the world?"

The silence that followed was absolute. No one moved. No one breathed.

"It is a mission," Robin finally said, her voice ringing with a weight that made the devil fruit powers in the room feel like toys. "A mission to make amends. To complete what was left broken. Momo is right—it is heavier, more important than any fruit."

The other girls looked at them in stunned silence. They lived in a world where people killed and died for the power of the sea, yet here were five of their own, ready to cast aside that strength for something hidden on a ghost island.

Nami shook her head, a frustrated laugh escaping her lips. "Great. I finally get an answer, and you leave me with a bigger question."

"Nami is right," Ain agreed, her eyes searching Robin's face.

"We will tell you the rest," Hiyori promised softly, "once we have confirmed it ourselves."

"We aren't just preparing for an old agreement," Shirahoshi added, her voice small but firm. "We are preparing ourselves... for what we might find."

"What a cliffhanger!" Nejire and Camie complained in unison, though their eyes were full of worry. Yui gave a short nod of sympathy, Ibara began to whisper a prayer for their souls, and Yanagi shivered, muttering about how spooky the destiny of bloodlines could be. Momo reached out, offering a supportive look. "Don't worry. I hope you all succeed in whatever this mission is."

Outside the door, the corridor was just as quiet. The teachers had gathered in the hall, their ears pressed to the wood or their spirits tuned to the conversation within.

Shakky leaned against the bulkhead, a fresh plume of smoke rising from her lips. The youthful Gloriosa stood beside her, plucking at her staff, while Nemuri and Ryukyu stood near Nagant, who was staring into her tea as if the dregs held the map to Adam itself. Hina and Gion stood by the porthole, the orange glow of their cigarettes the only light in the dim hall.

Tsuru lowered her head, her eyes shadowed. "So... it really is called Adam."

Shakky took one last drag, her eyes turning toward the distant, invisible horizon. "Adam, huh?" she mused. "The beginning of everything... or the end."
