"Shit." Xal knelt near him, careful not to damage the circle.
Why didn't he tell me he would fall like that?
For some reason, he wanted to adjust Kian's awkwardly bent limbs and place a pillow under his head to make it comfortable. But he had been a fucking asshole throughout the whole thing.
He checked if all of Kian's limbs were inside the circle.
Then he put his senses on alert mode.
Only then did he realize he had to protect Kian from spirits he couldn't see. And this fucker didn't even bother to spend the effort on him. Kian had said something about getting stabbed, and Xal wondered if he was just saying it or if it had actually happened before.
He stood near him, burning out his eyes, scanning for anything unusual.
A knock came at the door. The daughter peeked in, staring ridiculously at Kian. Well, it did look like he was sleeping when he was supposed to be getting rid of the ghost.
"What the hell?" She stepped in, a bit angrily.
Xal moved forward, defending him, saying he wasn't sleeping but communicating with the ghost. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught something moving. He turned just in time to stop a wooden box flying at the girl. He caught it with one hand and dropped it down, looking at her sternly.
"Miss, I advise you to leave and let us work. It's too dangerous."
The daughter nodded, terrified, and left.
Xal sighed and moved near Kian again.

After having a full conversation with the spirit, who was indeed a mother, Kian stirred and sat up, legs crossed as he untangled himself from the awkward pose, the familiar yet uncomfortable tingling invading his hand held up in the air, holding the spirit's hand to maintain connection. After nursing it, he rubbed the shoulder he'd hit on the floor when he fell, then the side of his head.
He found it strange that he didn't hear from Xal and slightly panicked, thinking he might have left.
So, he looked around and flinched when he spotted him, as he was glaring daggers at him.
