Ma'ya'ab (The land of the Maya). The temple of Kukulkan (Quetzalcoatl). 400 CE.
All the people of their culture gathered at the great temple dedicated to the great feathered serpent, gazing up at the sky with excitement, watching as the sun reached its peak directly above their heads at the equator. An event that the cultures in the future would call the Spring Equinox.
The Halach Uinic, the ruler of their people, stared with wonder at the great step-pyramid designed to call forth their deity, who blessed them with knowledge in exchange for tribute.
The structure made of smooth limestone was designed by their greatest designers and geniuses of the past after their very first communion with their diety who gave them the knowledge to do so.
Unknown to the people, this structure was an acoustic mirror, designed so well that it could produce a sound similar to a bird's chirp when someone clapped their hands at the base, vibrating at a specific frequency that would mimic the vibrational frequency of their god's scales.
Soon, the time came for the summoning as the Ah Kinob, the priests, climbed the stairs with their king with a solemnity that this great ritual demanded.
At the peak of the temple sat a colossal spire stretching into the sky, made of Lodestone ( magnetite) as the core, obtained from the south, and crystalline white limestone and jadeite as the spires in a formation that would one day be known as the Fibonacci Spiral.
This too was designed and created by their people based on the knowledge they gleaned from their god.
However, what they did not know was that this spire was, in truth, a primitive Induction Coil, created by their ancestors in accordance with their god's knowledge.
As the hundreds of priests across the Mayan lands reached the top of their respective pyramids, which lacked the spire that the temple of Kukulkan had, they began their ceremony.
The clapping at the base began as the priests started burning the Copal Resin in their ceremonial containers, creating a dense pillar of smoke that rose from every pyramid that their civilization ever built. A pillar of smoke that rose to the stratosphere due to how the chambers of the pyramids were designed, acting as the primary signal.
Then, the 'chirp' of the clapping acted as the secondary signal, calling forth their god through the resonance of the vibrational frequency.
Meanwhile, they prepared the main offering.
Across the pyramids, the priests poured the intoxicating 'nectar' that pleased their god.
The Balche. An alcoholic drink created from honey and the bark of a special tree in their lands that would one day be known as the Lonchocarpus violaceus tree.
As the priests poured this liquid, which resembled blood, down the altars, a hidden pipe system across the pyramids harnessed this liquid and collected it at the top of the Temple of Kukulkan.
With their part done, the priests and the king waited for their god to respond. And respond he did.
For a few minutes, nothing happened. However, all at once, the priests across the pyramids, who all had milky white eyes, indicating their blindness, suddenly looked up at the sky, as if they had sensed the arrival of their god.
GRROOOOOO
A terrifying, yet hauntingly delighted roar rang out across the sky as a colossal being of emerald scales and glowing golden patterns descended from the skies.
His every move across the skies and through the smoke created an electric discharge that charged the dense, oily smoke of the copal resin, creating Cloud Condensation Nuclei that would eventually lead to a downpour.
The Mayan people kneeled as one and started to hum in the exact frequency as they were taught from their birth by their previous generation, just like their previous generation was taught by their own parents, just like that generation was taught by their own ancestors.
An ancient tradition that was unknowingly based on advanced science that would one day baffle the people of the far future.
With their humming as one across the pyramids of the Maya people, the acoustic properties of their structures came alive and resonated with the 'Feathered Serpent God' who replied with his own voice.
His deep, enchanting humming became one with the people, creating a form of primitive Titan mind link between the 'God' and the people that worshipped him.
If these people continued this tradition for a few hundred more generations, there is no doubt that their very genetic code would change eventually to form a permanent mental link with their god. But that is a thought for the future.
With their ritual complete, the ancient being lazily coiled around the spire. His 900-foot-long body coiled compactly on the spire known as the Nahb spiral and creating an electrical discharge due to mechanical pressure on the Jadeite and limestone.
At the base of the spire, deep within the pyramid, a Cenote filled with mineral-rich saline water sat with gold ribbons stratching from it across the pyramid, leading across hidden chambers that connected all the pyramids into a singular circuit.
At the top of the pyramids, the King watched excitedly as the head priest used the ceremonial dagger to tap on the thin Obsidian slab sandwiched between hammered gold plates, which were connected to the 'circuit network'.
The moment the dagger was tapped on the 'mirror', pulses of light erupted from it, just like their people were taught by their god.
In truth, the 'mirror' was ionizing the air molecules on the surface through the voltage they gained from the Cenote, creating low-temperature plasma.
And by tapping the mirror with the ceremonial dagger in specific patterns, the priest was effectively breaking the circuit and creating pulses of light that they used to communicate from across their territories with the other Pyramids instantly.
Of course, as the one who taught them this knowledge, their 'God' watched all this with amusement and a hint of pride as he drank from his offering of alcohol, using the intoxicating substance to soothe his stress of dealing with certain beings across his millions of years of lifespan.
Soon, the downpour began across the Mayan territories, making the people dance and sing joyfully as their god gave a final roar of happiness and took off to the 'heavens'.
Meanwhile, said god was having a rather interesting conversation with his companions through his link.
—————————————————————————————
'This is so damned unfair!!'
'Ditto! I want to get some good offerings from the little ones as well!'
I heard the protest from the two troublemakers across our link and could not help but chuckle.
'Well. If you two can ever come to the surface without causing a catastrophe with every moment, maybe you can enjoy this kind of life as well.'
'Hey! We can't help it if we are so awesome that our very presence causes the world to be destabilized, unlike you, who grazes on the sun's energy all the time and can only hope to imitate our greatness through the exploitation of the natural laws!'
I would have laughed at Groudon's vehement protest if it wasn't saddening to hear his sadness hidden behind his tone.
A lot of things have happened in the millions of years we have been alive since the ancient Cretaceous Period.
The gradual decline of radiation across the planet that forced many of the Titans deeper into the Hollow Earth, where they slowly entered hibernation one after another.
The various conflicts caused by territorial disputes due to this new arrangement.
The Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event caused by the asteroid that hit the Earth during one of my rare hibernations. (I am really glad that the choice to either let the dinosaurs die out or to protect them was taken from me like that because I agonized over that choice for a few thousand years by that point.)
The countless years that we three spent on the barren world after the impact, slowly repairing it so that the burden of bringing back life on the planet would be alleviated to an extent.
The incident where Shimo, the ancestral Titan, froze the Earth for over a hundred thousand years as part of our plan to cool down the global temperatures after one of Groudon's temper tantrums.
The fight against the alien invader that got his ass frozen in Antarctica with Shimo's help. ( I mean, I wasn't really trying since that guy was more of a test for Godzilla and Mothra that I put forth to see if they were ready for their stewardship of the planet. A test that they passed with flying colors, mind you.)
The fight against the stupid giant ape that calls himself the 'Skar King', who united his people and wanted to subjugate all other species, including us three. (Godzilla and Mothra definitely did not find that thought amusing, given that the lizard delivered judgment with extreme prejudice on the apes).
So much has happened in the millions of years, so it was inevitable that, somewhere along the way, these two would gain true sapience.
After all, they were like me.
Forces of nature contained in physical form, earning us the titles of 'Kings' by the Titans.
And yet, instead of a boon, their sapience has become more of a curse.
Because, unlike me, who can freely roam the world with nary a consequence due to how controlled and streamlined my power is, thanks to a combination of my very nature and my efforts, they simply cannot control their powers, which means that they could never freely explore this beautiful world.
If Groudon ever even thinks of stepping foot outside his domain, he would bring about untold catastrophes to the very land that he represents. The heat from his body is so high that just by standing still, he would cause the moisture in the air to literally split into hydrogen and oxygen atoms in a 10-mile-radius. This does not take into account the fact that the moment he starts to move, his body temperature rises exponentially, increasing the radius to untold levels.
Similarly, Kyogre's very presence causes the water around him to become so dense that it acts similarly to lead in a large radiuss similar to his brother. This means that no living thing can ever hope to even approach him unless it wants to be crushed like a bug on a windshield.
This is quite the irony considering that Kyogre's natural radiation promotes the growth of life at an exponential rate just like Groudon and I and, to a lesser extent, the rest of the Titans.
Compared to these two, I really have it good.
This problem that these two troublemakers face is the main reason why I established this mental link between us in the first place, with the help of Mothra, who taught me how to mold our communication methods to form this kind of connection.
In essence, this telepathic link allows Groudon and Kyogre to see and feel the world through my senses, satiating their curiosity. I also used this link to teach them words so that we could communicate better.
However, sometimes, they become too attached to the 'taste' of the world and start throwing tantrums, wishing to see the world with their own senses. Just like they are doing right now.
And like they did a few hundred years ago, when Kyogre defied my attempt to calm him down and went to the surface, forcing me to subdue him again and send him back.
He was really grumpy for more than a century after that, but he eventually came around.
By this point, I think these routine battles between us have become a common occurrence that we don't really care much about these days.
I continued talking with my 'brothers' as I ascended into the exosphere, satisfied with another offering of quality alcohol by the humans this year as well.
Hopefully, they continue on this path of enlightenment, allowing me to proudly call them my students on the path of natural science.
