For a second, Grey's steps faltered.
What was he doing?
More precisely... what was he doing following Lord Jethro?
They had left the courtroom together, but nothing had been said between them. There had been no instruction, no glance over the shoulder to indicate that Grey was expected to follow.
He had simply… done so.
The thought unsettled him enough that he stopped altogether.
Without saying anything to Lord Jethro, he turned around and began walking in the opposite direction, heading back toward his room.
The fact that Jethro had not asked him to follow, and had also not asked him to stop, made him wonder if Lord Jethro wanted to talk about what had happened between them.
And if that was the case, then he was not ready for it.
He was not ready to hear Lord Jethro say that whatever had happened between them had been an accident, a consequence of circumstance, and that they should simply forget it.
Which was the truth.
