"Ren, look at me."
He blinks hard, like he's trying to wake up. Tears spill immediately. "I have bad dreams," he whispers.
"What kind of dreams?"
His lip trembles. "I'm really thirsty. And I bite people." His hands curl into my blouse. "There's blood everywhere. And I don't want to, Mommy, but I can't stop." He sniffles. "The boys at the pack call me a freak. They say I'm not a real wolf. They say something's wrong with me."
I tilt up his chin. "There is nothing wrong with you, Ren. You are special. Extraordinary. One day, they'll realize that, and if they don't, it's their loss. Mommy's going to find a way to take the dreams and ache away, okay?"
He nods, leaning back as I tuck him into his seat.
The stereo comes on as I settle behind the wheel, revving the engine and the garage door rolls up as I pull into the driveway. Ren pushes the buttons of the radio, and after a screeching static, the voice of an announcer fills the car.
