After the dresses were done, I was dragged from place to place.
Elara bought the simple clothes I had originally asked for, then took me straight to the salon. It seemed she had taken that female employee's words far more seriously than I ever had.
By the time we were done, my chest started to ache at the sight of the sheer multitude of shopping bags being shoved into the trunk.
"You brought too much." I whispered, stepping back from the car.
"Yes, it seems."
With a flick of her keys, she closed the trunk and got inside. I followed behind.
"I still haven't paid you back for your shoes. And now all this..." I trailed off. She didn't seem in the mood to talk, but I forced the words out anyway. "You can take my entire salary. Now that I'm living with you, I don't really need it."
Elara reached for the ignition, but her head turned slowly toward me. A small, knowing smile formed on her lips.
"Why are you in a hurry to pay me? Are you trying to run away?"
