It was getting late as our conversation dragged on, and my unease began to show more with each passing minute. Elara noticed it right away.
"Do you not want to spend time with me?"
The day had been cold, and the night was even colder. As the hours slipped by, the wind only seemed to grow sharper. Truthfully, I did not want to spend time anywhere but in the comfort of my warm bed.
"What? No. It's just getting late."
Elara hummed in response, her eyes never leaving me.
"And besides, don't you have a lover? You should spend your time with them instead."
It felt as if I was getting bolder, but at the same time, my own reaction irritated me. Or rather, it was not Elara's expression that unsettled me. What truly bothered me was how easily she acted around me, as if nothing weighed on her, while I could not even bring myself to meet her gaze.
"No, I haven't."
