He looked like he had seen a ghost.
"I apologize for being late," Delfina said smoothly. "Has the meeting already started?"
Without waiting for their reply, Delfina walked fully into the meeting room, her heels clicking sharply against the polished marble floor. She moved toward an empty seat while every gaze followed her, eyes widened as though they had just seen a ghost.
Delfina ignored them all.
She took her seat calmly and turned her attention to Filippo.
"You may continue," she said.
Her words seemed to snap time back into motion. The room stirred as everyone came out of their stunned silence.
Filippo dismissed the secretary with a stiff wave of his hand.
This was not how he had imagined the day unfolding. Delfina was not supposed to be here. Of all days, she had chosen today. The day he'd long been looking forward to.
He tried to steady himself, but her unwavering gaze made him shift uncomfortably in his seat.
