Chapter 16 - Chapter 15

Will POV

When I reached home, Mom and Dad were already at the dinner table. I joined them quietly.

"Did you drop her home safely?" Mom asked.

"Yes," I said, my mind betraying me as her face flashed in my thoughts. "And... I'm sorry about today."

Dad looked at me carefully. "You should apologize to Minnie, not to us."

I wanted to say it wasn't my fault, that she was the one who stepped in front of the car. But the thought of her limping, trying to smile through the pain, stopped me. I exhaled softly. "Okay, Dad. The next time I see her, I'll apologize.'

Mom glanced at me, as if she already knew what I was feeling. "After dinner, I need to talk to you."

After dinner, I went to my room and took a shower. When I came out, Mom was standing in the balcony. I joined her and stood beside her in silence.

Mom: "What's going on with you, Will?"

Will: "Nothing, Mom," I said, a little unsure.

She studied my face for a moment. "I noticed everything that happened with Minnie today. You already knew her, didn't you?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

I took a deep breath. "Yes. I met her once before, at a coffee shop."

Mom smiled softly. "And you like her, right?"

I frowned immediately. "No way, Mom. I don't."

She didn't look convinced. "Will, I know when you care about someone."

I looked away toward the dark street below. "How can I like her? I didn't even know her name until today. I only heard it wh 'ou were talking." My voice stayed cold, b. way my chest tightened told a different story.

Mom let the silence stretch between us, the city lights glowing below. "You didn't know her name,' she said calmly, "yet you noticed her pain and stayed close the entire time."

I clenched my jaw. "That doesn't mean anything. Anyone would have done the same."

She turned to face me. "Anyone wouldn't."

I looked straight ahead. "She was just someone who needed help," I said flatly. "Nothing more."

Mom smiled softly, not teasing-certain. "Then why do you sound so guarded when you talk about her?"

I exhaled slowly. "Because she keeps appearing in my life," I replied. "And I don't like things that distract me."

Mom's smile deepened. "Or maybe you don't like how hard she is to forget."

I didn't respond. I stayed silent, my expression cold. But inside, I knew-if she truly meant nothing, I wouldn't be trying this hard to deny it.

The conversation ended there. Mom didn't push further, and I was glad for it. I stayed in the balcony for a few more minutes, then went back to my room. The house was quiet, but my mind wasn't.

I lay on the bed and stared at the ceiling. It had been

a long day-nothing more. An accident, some responsibility, that was all. I replayed the events once, then forced myself to stop. Thinking about it wouldn't change anything.

Minnie Pov

After Will dropped me home, I walked inside slowly, my leg throbbing with every step. The moment I opened the door, my mom froze. Her eyes widened, and before I could say anything, she rushed to me and helped me sit on the sofa, panic written all over her face.

"What happened, Minnie? Why are your hand and leg hurt?" she asked.

I explained everything about the evening-how it all happened, about Uncle Parkar and Mia aunty, and of course about that one and only cold person Will, who dropped me home without smiling even once. By the time I finished, Mom's eyes were filled with tears.

"Oh my God," she said, holding my hand. "How long are you going to keep getting hurt like this?"

I laughed softly and wiped her tears. "Mom, I'm the one who's injured. Why are you crying?" I said, smiling like it was nothing.

She shook her head. "You've suffered so much in your life, Minnie. You don't deserve any of this. You hide your pain and act like everything is fine, but I know it's not."

My smile wavered. I hugged her tightly, blinked back my tears, and said, "It's okay, Mom. Everything will be fine," even though it felt like a lie. I lay down with my head in her lap, and she gently tapped my hand, lost in thoughts about my life. One silent tear slipped down my cheek.

Just then, my stomach betrayed the mood with a loud growl.

Mom paused, then laughed. "So this is the real emergency?"

I laughed too. "Yes. Emotional drama is over. I'm hungry."

She went to the kitchen to cook while I distracted myself by watching my favorite YouTube videos. We ate together, talking and laughing like nothing had happened. Later, she helped me to my room and tucked me into bed. She kissed my forehead, wished me good night, and turned off the light.

It had been a long, exhausting day and before I could think about anything else- especially a certain cold person I fell asleep..

Time passed

The morning sun flashed into my eyes, and when I tried to move, the sharp pain in my leg and hand made me cry out. I checked the time 8:00 a.m. There was no way I could go to college like this. I sighed just as I heard a knock on the door. I told them to come in, and the moment the door opened, I froze. My heart skipped a beat as I stared at the person standing there.

"What are you doing here".
