RILEY'S POV
One second I was breathing frost and pine needles and wolf musk; the next I was choking on car exhaust and the faint smell of someone's burnt toast drifting from a nearby apartment window.
My world.
Not "the human world." My world. The one with potholes, streetlights that flickered like they were on their about dying, and people who didn't growl when they got annoyed.
I stood there for a full minute, just breathing.
My satchel felt heavier than it should , I had stuffed it with gummy worms, a half-empty water bottle, and the two cards Kael had shoved at me like they were supposed to fix everything.
I scoffed to myself.A guy walking his bike gave me a wide berth and sped up.
"Sorry, dude," I muttered. "Just realized my life is a soap opera and I'm the dramatic bitch who forgot her lines."
