The café was almost empty—soft music playing, rain tapping against the glass windows, and the smell of freshly brewed coffee filling the air. I was sitting in my usual corner, pretending to read a book I hadn't turned a page of in ten minutes.
Then she walked in.
Not loudly. Not dramatically.
Just… naturally.
Her hair was slightly wet from the rain, a few strands falling over her face as she pushed the door open. She looked around, as if unsure whether she belonged there—or anywhere at all. Something about that hesitation caught my attention.
She chose the table right in front of mine.
I tried not to stare. I really did.
But every time she tucked her hair behind her ear, my heart forgot how to behave.
She ordered coffee. Black. No sugar.
