Chapter 37 - Goku’s Hidden Base

After hearing Bulma's story, Goku couldn't help feeling relieved.

"Good thing I wished for you to gain strength…

otherwise you probably would've died twice by now."

Bulma didn't deny it at all. She nodded seriously.

"Yeah, having some strength is amazing.

Back at school, if any green-tea girl dared to flaunt her boyfriend in front of me, I'd slap her straight in the face. It felt great…

After that, nobody dared gossip about me anymore."

Goku: "..."

"So basically, you came out with me because your hands were itching?"

Bulma covered her mouth and laughed.

"No, no, I don't like fighting.

But if someone hits me, I'll naturally hit back hard."

Then she looked at him.

"So? You were underwater for so long—looks like you didn't find the Dragon Ball?"

Goku handed her the Dragon Radar, still wrapped in the torn plastic bag.

"The plastic bag burst in the deep sea. The radar got flooded and stopped working…"

Bulma glanced at the soaked device and smacked her forehead.

"Ahh! I can't believe I forgot about deep-sea pressure…

Looks like even a genius can mess up sometimes!

Hahaha!"

Goku stared at her.

"So… can it be fixed?"

Bulma nodded.

"Fixing the radar is easy. I just need tools."

Goku blinked.

"Didn't you bring them? You used tools when you repaired Android Eight."

Bulma scratched her cheek awkwardly.

"I just realized… my usual capsule toolkit isn't with me.

I might've left it at Snow's house."

"At Snow's house?"

Goku frowned.

"You're telling me this because you want me to go back there to get it?"

Bulma waved her hand.

"No need. It's too far—and way too cold.

We can just buy tools at a nearby shop."

She looked around.

But all she saw was endless ocean.

Goku suddenly said, "I've got it. We're pretty close to Master Roshi's place.

I'll go to Kame House and borrow some tools."

Bulma hesitated.

"There are Red Ribbon soldiers around here. I don't want to run into them.

I'll go with you."

Goku nodded.

"Okay."

Bulma put away the submarine and released the plane instead.

Goku remembered that to carry the pirate treasure, he'd need an empty capsule—otherwise that huge chest would be impossible to move.

"By the way, Bulma… you didn't throw away that capsule with the magazines, did you?"

The moment he brought that up, Bulma's face darkened.

"That filthy thing? I threw it away."

"Wait for me. I'll go look for it—I need an empty capsule."

He flew back to the spot in a hurry.

Watching him, Bulma muttered suspiciously,

"Did Goku secretly see something he shouldn't have and go bad…?"

But two minutes later, Goku returned with a clean empty capsule.

Her doubts immediately vanished.

Soon after, they reached Kame House.

The turtle saw them and waved happily.

"Oh! Goku! I've missed you!"

Goku waved back.

"Hey, Turtle. Long time no see."

He looked around.

"Where's Master Roshi? And Yamcha?"

"Master Roshi is inside doing yoga. Yamcha went training…"

"I see."

Goku nodded.

"I need to borrow some tools from Master Roshi to fix our radar."

"Go ahead."

Goku and Bulma went inside.

Master Roshi and Puar were glued to the TV, copying yoga poses from a bunch of beautiful women.

"Master Roshi, I'm back," Goku called.

"Oh? Goku. What do you need?"

"Our Dragon Radar broke. We need to borrow some tools to fix it."

Roshi waved lazily.

"In the study. There's a toolbox on the floor."

Then he went right back to yoga, not even bothering to look at them again.

Goku and Bulma exchanged glances and went straight into the study.

With the tools, Bulma quickly repaired the radar.

She tapped it a few times.

"It works again. But it can't go into the deep sea—only inside the submarine."

"That's fine," Goku said.

"We've got a submarine now. You can operate the radar from inside and guide me by radio."

Bulma smiled.

"True. Having you as my free laborer is great."

Goku's face darkened.

"When did I become a slave?"

They left after giving Roshi a quick goodbye.

He was still doing yoga and didn't even turn around to see them off.

So they simply left Kame House.

Red Ribbon Army Headquarters

Black Adjutant and Commander Red were staring at the Dragon Radar.

Black Adjutant frowned.

"This is strange…

That kid's radar is incredibly accurate—he shouldn't be detouring like this.

But he just stopped somewhere for a while. That place must be important."

Just then, the phone rang.

Black Adjutant answered.

"Black Adjutant here."

"Sir! We were on our way to support General Blue when someone hijacked us!

She stole our submarine!"

Black Adjutant froze.

"What? The kid stole your submarine?"

"Yes, sir!"

Understanding dawned on Black Adjutant's face.

He turned to Red.

"Marshal, I think I get it.

That island he stopped at must be his base.

But after returning there, he realized he had no submarine, so he hijacked one of ours."

Red took a puff of his cigar.

"All of our military equipment is tracked.

Ask them for the submarine's model number."

The voice on the other end responded immediately.

"Marshal, the stolen submarine's model is 2A1314."

Red spoke into the phone.

"Do not alert him.

Have General Blue follow that submarine.

It will lead us to the Dragon Ball—and while he's at it, take back the kid's Dragon Balls."

"Understood!"

Black Adjutant hung up and looked at Red with admiration.

"As expected of you, Marshal—planning everything from afar!"

Red snorted.

"Hmph. These idiots just don't use their brains."

Black Adjutant smiled flatteringly.

"Of course, of course. No one compares to your brilliance…"

Red sighed and glanced at his own height.

"Unfortunately…"

Then he noticed Black Adjutant standing right next to him.

"Hey! Who told you to stand so close to me?

You're making me look even shorter! Move back!"

Black Adjutant hurriedly stepped away.

Red suddenly remembered something.

"Oh right. Tell General Blue to investigate that island the kid stopped at.

His scientist might be hiding there."

"Yes, sir!"
