Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: The Hunter Arrives

The forest stretched endlessly beneath him, a sea of green shadows and muted sounds. From above, it looked peaceful, almost serene—but he knew better. The rustle of leaves, the snap of a twig, the faint whistle of the wind all carried meaning. Life and death intertwined here, and he was no longer a mere hatchling.

He had grown. Evolved. Learned. Survived. But the system pulsed with a warning that made his golden eyes narrow.

[High-Level Threat Detected | Enemy Type: Human Hunter Elite | Level: 12+]

[Risk Assessment: Extreme | Recommended: Extreme Caution]

Humans. Trained killers. Ones who could read the forest like a map and track creatures far stronger than any ordinary beast. He had fought humans before, yes—but they were weak. These were different. Dangerous. Calculated. Precise.

He flexed his claws. Heat built in his chest, fire simmering beneath his crimson scales. His wings stretched fully, catching the wind with ease. He had grown stronger than yesterday, faster and deadlier—but could he survive a human elite? Could he even strike first?

A shadow moved between the trees below. Silent. Calculated. Every step deliberate, careful, controlled. The hunter paused occasionally, scanning the area like a predator itself.

He's looking for me, the dragon realized. The system confirmed it.

[System Alert: Enemy has detected traces of your presence.]

The hunter crouched slightly, reaching for a strange metallic device strapped to his wrist. A pulse of blue light scanned the surrounding forest. The human's eyes glinted with intelligence and confidence.

Tracking device… human tech, he thought, tail flicking. They're more prepared than I expected.

A low hiss escaped his throat. His wings twitched. Every muscle in his body coiled like a spring. He knew one mistake—one wrong movement—could be fatal.

Then, the hunter moved.

Fast. Efficient. Calculated. He advanced like he owned the forest, silent footsteps betraying none of the power behind them.

[Combat Initiated: High-Level Human Hunter]

The dragon leapt into the air, wings slicing the wind. Fire built in his chest, ready to erupt. The hunter's device emitted another scanning pulse, and his hand flicked toward a crossbow. The bolt glowed faintly with some enchantment, designed to pierce even hardened scales.

[Warning: Incoming Attack | Skill Usage Recommended]

The dragon twisted midair, fire erupting in a jagged arc that scorched the nearby underbrush. Sparks flew as claws met steel, the sound of metal striking scales ringing sharply through the trees. The hunter hissed in surprise but remained calm, rolling into cover and firing again.

Pain. Sharp. Real. But he was faster now. Stronger. Every beat of his wings, every flex of his claws, every roar of fire refined his instincts. He circled above, analyzing the hunter's movement, studying every pattern, every hesitation.

Humans are clever, he admitted silently. But I am faster.

He dove, claws extended. The hunter rolled, swinging a silver-bladed sword designed to pierce scales. Sparks flew, fire licked the blade, and the hunter's eyes widened in surprise. The dragon twisted, letting his tail whip forward, knocking the hunter into a low tree branch. Wood splintered. Armor dented. Pain flashed across the human's face.

The hunter staggered backward, breathing heavily, realizing too late that the predator in the air was no ordinary beast. This dragon was fast, calculating, and now aware of the hunter's every move.

The dragon's fire roared from his chest, flames slicing across the clearing, singeing leaves and heating the air. Smoke curled upward, burning the hunter's eyes, blurring his vision.

Adrenaline surged. His golden eyes narrowed. Wings flared, claws dug into the dirt mid-flight, and the system pulsed.

He didn't wait. He roared, a sound deep and vibrating, echoing through the forest like a mountain cracking. Fire erupted violently from his mouth, scorching the hunter's cover. The human's hand shot out, trying to steady his sword, but the heat was overwhelming. He staggered.

Seizing the moment, the dragon lunged. Claws raked across steel, teeth sank into armored flesh. The hunter screamed, swinging wildly, but every attack was anticipated, every move countered. Tail whipped, knocking him backward. Wings flared, sending sparks of heat and fire with each beat.

The hunter stumbled, exhausted, pain radiating across his body. His eyes were wide with disbelief. "Impossible…!" he gasped.

The dragon hovered a few feet above, wings spread wide, chest heaving, fire curling from his nostrils. His tail flicked lazily, powerful and deliberate.

The forest fell silent again. Smoke and scorched leaves lingered in the air, evidence of the battle. The dragon's heart raced, muscles coiled, wings trembling slightly—not from fatigue, but from exhilaration.

He flexed his claws experimentally. Every movement was sharper, more precise, more deadly. The forest seemed smaller now, obstacles rather than barriers.

[Quest Updated: Survive | Hunt | Gain Power | Evolve | Explore Territory | Human Threat Neutralized]

Somewhere beyond the forest, others would come. Stronger humans, monsters, perhaps even dragons. And he would be ready.

Because he was no longer just a hatchling.

He was a predator.

He was a dragon.

The wind whistled through his wings as he rose into the sky, golden eyes scanning the horizon. Fire simmered low in his chest. Instincts sharp. Hunger and power intertwining.

The hunt had only just begun.

And soon, the world would learn: predators no longer bow to humans.

The dragon let out a low, resonating roar that echoed across the forest, announcing his presence. A warning. A declaration.

He would dominate.

He would survive.

He would evolve.
