Chapter 5 - Forging a False Hope

Shigaraki

Damn it.

Damn it, damn it, damn it.

I need to kill this kid.

But I don't want to…

I'm not sure what happened, but when I glared into his eyes; I saw it- I saw how closely he was taking note of everything around him- including me. He saw something in me that not even I can see myself. And when he passed out, I couldn't stop staring at him… something about him is just so- fascinating.

I called in our healer, Mari, to take a look at his throat; if we want his information on the heroes, we need to be able to communicate smoothly. She healed as much as she could, but still, it wasn't enough. Though, without her help he would have likely either bled out from the inside of his neck or choked on his own blood while unconscious. "Lucky to be alive". That's what Mari said.

Kurogiri and Slough suggested just raiding the kids house for the other notebooks, but I chose to keep him alive for two reasons- i have questions- though he's been unconscious for several hours now, which was somehow long enough for his face to be plastered on almost every screen in the city at least once every half hour, his house is being swarmed by heroes and cops- so breaking in is out of the question. Besides, information is always better from the source after all.

For a while after we set him up in a room, I watched him rest, pain creased his eyes and his breaths were shaky, uncertain.

Then he woke up. I got the alert when he started to move a while ago and watched him over the cameras, when he finally began to calm down from his crying fit I set up a bag of small things, just to get him on our side for now, make him comfortable enough to spill all of his secrets-

I haven't gotten in contact with any of our spies, but as far as i can tell, the hero's investigation into his disappearance isn't going anywhere. Other than the one who fought Slough on his way back, no one else has come forward with information.

"The door doesn't have a lock, but don't think that means you're free to go." I tell him, he's still curled up in the corner on the bed, pen in one hand and notebook in the other. I yawn and point at him "I forgot your name."

"Izuku Midoriya" He writes, okay, that's not too hard to remember.

"Well then Midoriya, I'm not at all interested in keeping you alive if you don't share the information we require. If you refuse, then I guess we'll have no use for you anymore."

Midoriya's eyes go wide and his skin turns paler, fear. How entertaining.

"So tell us everything you know. I want every weakness the Hero's have in that notebook by the end of this week. Based on the size of your current notes, you'll have information on about 300 heroes. I trust we can rely on your memory? Slough had nothing but Kudos for the size of your brain that contains information. If not though, we can work out some kind of deal...."

"On one condition, you need to let me go and not harm any of my friends or family."

Quite interesting… he still thinks he has leverage.

"You do realise that if you don't want to, we can simply threaten your mothers well being. Your condition has no support." I say, which somehow makes Midoriya even paler.

"You just want my notebooks? If you let me go, I can send them back! You don't need to hurt anyone!"

"I suppose that may be possible." I taunt, there's a chance that if he believes he can get out of here alive then he'll be more cooperative. It's a certainty that my master; All For One will remove Midoriya's quirk whether he lives or not, unless of course he decides to join our cause and help defeat the Heroes.. "Though, there's no guarantee you leave here with your quirk."

Confusion.

Interesting.

For a moment I wonder why I said anything about it, but his reaction- that was all I hoped for.

"Can I at least call my mom? She needs to know I'm safe!"

"And talk to her how?"

"Write a letter?"

I decide not to answer, I'll let him think whatever he wants for now, but it is inevitable. I'll have to kill this boy, whether I want to or not… it's a shame, I think I could have really liked him.

I shut the door on my way out, peeking at the camera feed on one of my phones every few minutes, I truly am curious to see how he reacts to this situation. Not every day I get to observe a normal person in this hellhole of a base.

"You seem to have gotten attached to the kid." Kurogiri points out as I enter the bar, "What was in the bag?"

I scoff, "Stuff."

Slough laughs, in his human form he appears as a middle aged man with blonde hair and acorn colored skin, though his voice is still as gross as ever. "You're really something. What's with the room, isn't it missing a lock? The kid could escape if you're not careful."

"Not at all, Midoriya knows better than to risk getting on our bad side." I mutter to Kurogiri for a drink and turn back to Slough, "And do you really think I wouldn't take precautions? I had Mari insect a transmitter tracker when she healed him. He'll never even know it's there, incredibly dangerous to remove as well."

"You put a tracker in the kids shredded vocal cords? That's low, even for you Shigaraki."

"We need to discuss what we're going to do with him. Slough, you say his quirk is powerful, correct? With his knowledge and a will like that, the kid could grow to be unstoppable."

Kurogiri takes a seat next to me and chips in, "All we need are his books and quirk, that's what the boss would say." we all take a sip of our drinks, "What has the boss said about the boy anyways?"

"I haven't told him yet." I say, "And I advise you to follow my lead on the subject." The two exchange a look before nodding in response.

I check the camera feed again, Midoriya is sitting on the edge of the bed, inspecting the top of one of the applesauce packets I left for him, likely searching for tampering- smart kid. He sets it down beside him and stands, walking to the door slowly while searching the corners of the room, eyes catching on each camera before he reaches out and slowly grasps the door knob. He turns it and opens it about an inch before shutting it quickly, as if he's either seen something or realised that leaving may mean life of death.

Midoriya reaches for his neck yet again, opening and closing his mouth every few seconds; I felt a pang of guilt in my gut watching him realise that he's trapped. I've been trapped before, made to believe something that deep down I knew was wrong. It's not something I would normally wish on someone who isn't an enemy, but I want to keep this one, and I'm willing to do more than 'normal' to do so.

What would the harm be if I let him write the letter? I don't have to send it, but I do want to see what he may write.

As if on cue, Midoriya opens the notebook I gave him and begins to write. I can't quite make out what he's writing, but it's long, almost two full pages. When he's done, he folds them in half and sets them down again before exploring the room a little bit more.

There's a creeping suspicion that he isn't normal that I get watching him, it reminds me of watching a stray dog or cat, some are skittish, others curious, but not enough so to go out of their designated location.

The commonality among stray animals though, is that they're all dangerous.
