Chapter 6: Breaking the Fog
BOOM!
With a deafening explosion, Mighty Dai, wreathed in green chakra steam, was blasted backwards through the air. He hit the ground in a skid, carving a trench in the earth before regaining his footing.
"Tch." Jinpachi Munashi clicked his tongue in annoyance, hefting the explosive sword Shibuki back onto his shoulder. The blade, a perfect fusion of sword and explosive tag, was less effective against a taijutsu specialist whose primary defense was raw speed and evasion. He'd hoped to score a decisive blow against the green-clad anomaly, but Dai's reflexes were sharper than his brutish appearance suggested.
A cold sweat beaded on Mighty Dai's forehead. That had been too close. A split-second slower, and he would have been caught in the heart of the blast.
He risked a glance to the side and his heart tightened. Uchiha Akira was being pressed hard by the remaining four Swordsmen: Jūzō Biwa, Raiga Kurosuki, Fuguki Suikazan, and Momotaro Hayato. Their coordination was terrifying, a seamless dance of lethal blades that forced Akira into constant, precarious evasion. It was like walking a razor's edge; a single misstep would mean being carved apart by the four infamous swords.
The fight had moved as they battled, leaving the artificial lake behind and carving a new path of destruction deeper into the forest.
The next moment, a dense, white fog billowed out, swiftly enveloping the area where Akira fought. Jūzō had found an opening to use the Hiding in Mist Technique.
The situation for Uchiha Akira had indeed become perilous. Even with the Sharingan, he felt stretched thin. The mist technique crippled the greatest advantage of his eyes—clarity and foresight. He was fighting blind against masters of silent killing.
Jūzō with the decapitating Kubikiribōchō, Raiga with the lightning-fast Kiba, Fuguki with the monstrous, chakra-eating Samehada, and Momotaro with the versatile Hiramekarei—each was a close-quarters combat expert of the highest order. Even with Lightning Release chakra enhancing his speed and the Sharingan's processing power, Akira's stamina was draining rapidly. In the thick fog, he was entirely on the defensive.
Raiga, another Lightning Release user, was particularly troublesome. His speed matched Akira's enhanced movements, constantly harrying him and preventing any chance to break away or set the pace.
Jūzō and Fuguki employed wide, crushing attacks with their massive blades. Against them, Akira could only dodge and retreat, never allowing a clash to last. To lock blades with either was to invite a killing strike from another angle.
And then there was Momotaro Hayato with the twin-bladed Hiramekarei. Akira judged that weapon, especially in its released form, to be one of the greatest threats on the field, on par with Samehada. Without a Susano'o for defense, a direct hit from its chakra blasts would be fatal.
The mist negated most of his visual prowess. 'This isn't working,' he thought, frustration bubbling. 'They're ruthless, but their teamwork is flawless. I need to shatter this formation.'
A scarlet gleam flashed in his eyes. The ninja sword in his hand hummed, sheathed anew in crackling lightning. In one fluid motion, he drove the blade deep into the ground.
"Lightning Release: Lightning Spread!"
The chakra discharged through the sword, forking out across the wet earth in a web of brilliant blue electricity, seeking targets.
Using the momentary distraction, Akira's hands flew into another sequence. "Wind Release: Great Tornado Vortex!"
He thrust his palms forward. A massive surge of chakra erupted, transforming into a howling, white tornado that ripped through the fog-choked clearing. Trees groaned, their roots tearing from the soil as the vortex sucked in everything—debris, water, and the thick mist blanketing hundreds of meters.
"Hiramekarei: Release!" Momotaro Hayato's voice cut through the roar of the wind.
A blast of dense, blue chakra energy lanced from the twin blades, piercing straight through the heart of the forming tornado. The force of it disrupted the technique, causing the whirlwind to shudder and begin to dissipate into chaotic gusts.
In that moment of disruption, Jūzō Biwa burst from the remnants of the storm, the Executioner's Blade raised high for a cleaving strike.
But Akira had anticipated this. Lightning flashed around his hand. The ninja sword, still partially embedded in the ground and charged with his chakra, was yanked back to his grip via a chakra thread in a technique akin to the Lightning Hound. He met Jūzō's overhead strike in a shower of sparks.
CLANG-SHATTER!
The pre-existing notch on Kubikiribōchō's blade met the concentrated lightning-wind chakra enveloping Akira's sword. The damaged section of the massive blade fractured and exploded into metal shards.
If this were a one-on-one duel, Jūzō would be in mortal danger now, the lightning chakra from the clash already numbing his arms and seizing his muscles.
But he was not alone.
"Hiramekarei: Release!" Another beam of compressed chakra cannoned toward Akira's flank.
"Lightning Release: Lightning Ball!" Raiga crossed his Kiba blades and unleashed a sphere of crackling purple energy.
"Water Release: Water Whip!" Fuguki's water chakra solidified into a dark blue, snapping tendril that shot for Akira's legs.
Three attacks, from three directions, all arriving as Akira was locked in the aftermath of the clash with Jūzō.
In that critical instant, using the brief paralysis he'd inflicted on Jūzō as a shield, Akira completed a final, rapid set of hand seals. A terrifying surge of chakra erupted from his core.
"Lightning Release: Thunderstorm!"
BOOOOOOM!
The world turned white, then blue. A cataclysmic flash of lightning exploded outward from Uchiha Akira, transforming into countless, razor-sharp swords of pure electricity that shredded the air in every direction.
The resulting detonation was monumental. The forest within a fifty-meter radius was vaporized in the dazzling discharge. A colossal plume of dust and smoke blotted out the sky, and the shockwave flattened trees far beyond the blast zone.
Within the boiling cloud, the sounds of fierce combat continued—clashes of metal, bursts of chakra, and pained grunts.
Finally, a figure wreathed in fading arcs of lightning shot backward out of the dust cloud, landing unsteadily. It was Uchiha Akira. His clothes were scorched in places, and light burns marred his skin. He had not emerged unscathed from point-blank collision of his ultimate lightning technique against the combined powers of three Swordsmen and their legendary weapons. The released power of the Hiramekarei had been even greater than he'd estimated.
He had succeeded in taking Jūzō Biwa out of the fight, but the cost to himself was significant.
At that moment, a roar filled with immense pressure rolled across the devastated landscape.
"Eight Inner Gates Formation! The Seventh Gate: The Gate of Shock—OPEN!"
A tsunami of blue chakra erupted, visible as a roaring pillar of energy. The sheer force of it acted like a hurricane, violently scattering the remaining dust and smoke from Akira's technique.
The cleared view revealed Jūzō Biwa's form, blackened and motionless on the scorched earth, his massive sword lying broken beside him.
The three remaining Swordsmen—Raiga Kurosuki, Momotaro Hayato, and Fuguki Suikazan—stood apart, their expressions twisted with fury and humiliation. Three of the infamous Seven Ninja Swordsmen of Kirigakure had been defeated, two permanently, by a single Uchiha not yet twenty. It was a stain on their legend, a joke in the making. They wanted nothing more than to tear the Konoha shinobi limb from limb.
Their murderous focus was entirely on Akira. They didn't notice the shift in the other part of the battlefield.
Mighty Dai, now a being of pure, azure energy, moved.
Shun!
To Jinpachi Munashi's eyes, the green-clad man simply vanished. Instinct screamed. He desperately swung the explosive sword Shibuki up in a defensive arc, the blade's explosive scroll unfurling automatically.
Mighty Dai's voice was a guttural growl of effort. "Morning Peacock!"
His figure, a blue afterimage, solidified dozens of meters away from where he'd started. His fists became a blur, punching the air hundreds of times in a microsecond. The friction of his fists against the atmosphere ignited the air itself, creating a torrent of fiery, peacock-tail-like projectiles that condensed into the form of a roaring, blue dragon's head.
The dragon of pure concussive force and fire roared forward and swallowed Jinpachi Munashi whole.
KABOOOOOOOM!!!!
The resulting explosion dwarfed all previous ones. A brilliant blue-white shockwave expanded in a vast fan shape, scouring the earth clean. When the light and cataclysmic roar faded, a gigantic, smoldering crater, tens of meters across at its widest, marked the spot where the wielder of the explosive sword had stood. Only fragments of Shibuki remained.
