Chapter 1 - Ch 1: Morgan's Cybermail

New Cyber City, Planet Earth

Houston Clocksworth

January 15th 4241

Greetings my friend, Houston!

It's been thirty-one earth days since my departure from the solar system, it`s not that long to miss someone but it`s enough for me to miss my friend and my one-and-only sister, Mira. Everytime I walk inside this dreadnought`s cafeteria, it reminds me of our Friday night outing at Westley`s bar; I miss those cheap liqour we always ordered. To be honest, working in this spaceship as a mechanic and travel to distant planets is a dream of mine ever since we were in the orphanage, and also a nightmare when space pirates ambush us during our journey. Behind these beautiful streams of stars always hides a terror for every space sailors. Despite being a member of the maintenance and repair crew, it's exhausting fixing whatever part of the ship gets damaged; both interior and exterior. I can't really complain, no I don't have the rights to make one. Besides, it was Fritz who gave me a chance to work here, a guy like me with a little knowledge of fixing stuffs. Also, It would be embarrasing for him if I suddenly quit this job with a good salary and insurance. This is actually much better than working as a corpse cleaner for the Crimson Mafia.

Last two lightyears ago when our ship docked at Alpha Planet, I bought some souvenirs from Centauri City Streets. As I walked in those well maintained roads, it reminded me of New Cyber City's garbage and crime plagued streets, a complete contrast of Centauri's image: white porcelain streets and free of trash, no crimes nor bloodshed, even their alleys are squeaky clean. Can't avoid the thought of wishing we were born in this planet. Can you even imagine how beautiful this world is?

Speaking of worlds, I read the Galactic Headlines a few weeks ago about Earth's close extinction. They said an asteroid almost struck our blue planet, did the Cyberex latest invention averted humanity's doom? I always believed in Cyberex extraordinary creations! With those amazing technology, I would be less worried about our little world. Especially, those massive plasma cannons that can obliterate moons.

Right now, our dreadnought is currently on its way to planet Cancri to meet a client who requested for an escort to Kepler. I overheard from our ship's officers while passing by the bridge for tech maintenance. Being a mechanic bears a responsibility for the ship's integrity and a mandatory job to do these types of tasks since we always travel across the vast cosmos. Since we always encounter small but life threatening incidents such as: small space fragments or rocks piercing through the delicate parts of the ship, or pirate attacks that damaged an engine or two. Quite tiresome, right? This time our ship's mission is to protect someone, especially from pirate raids. I hope this mission will be a smooth trip.

I pray you and my sister are always safe in that dreadful city, and pray for my safety out here in the silent cradle of stars.

Your Bestfriend
