Chapter 9 - Faster and Faster Upgrades

Lu Yun waved toward the newcomer.

"Master Xia, please—come and have a seat."

The man approaching was Xia Dongyang, head of the Xia family in Xihai City and Xia Xue's father.

There was still one empty chair at the table. Xia Dongyang sat down without ceremony.

"Greetings, Principals," he said politely after taking his seat.

Xia Dongyang had a firm, resolute appearance. His bearing was calm and dignified, carrying authority without the need for anger or display.

Lu Yun poured him a cup of tea.

"The head of the Xia family has come to see Xia Xue, I presume?"

Xia Dongyang smiled lightly.

"Xiaoxue has been under Principal Lu's care these past few years."

Lu Yun waved his hand.

"I didn't do much. Xia Xue is naturally intelligent, and her job transfer was very successful."

"I heard about it from home," Xia Dongyang replied. "I only returned to Xihai City today. Unfortunately, I missed her transfer ceremony."

Lu Yun knew well that Xia Dongyang was extremely busy and rarely had time to stay home.

"We were just discussing whether Xia Xue can reach Level 5 by the end of today's twelve-hour dungeon," Lu Yun said. "She wants to apply to Xia Jing Academy—it won't be easy."

Xia Dongyang responded calmly,

"There shouldn't be any problem. Even if she's a little short, I can ask someone to help."

Lu Yun shook his head.

"I suggest you don't. I know Xia Xue's personality—if you interfere, she'll resent you."

Xia Dongyang sighed. Of course he understood his daughter.

Changing the subject, he asked,

"I heard your school awakened a hidden profession this year. That's rare. What kind of profession is it?"

Lu Yun's eyes brightened.

"It's called a Necromancer. I've never seen it before. It can summon skeletons, but I can't say yet how strong it is."

Not all hidden professions were powerful—there were useless ones as well.

Summoning skeletons sounded eerie, even unsettling.

And the name Necromancer didn't inspire much confidence either.

Anything involving death and the undead inevitably made people think twice.

Sensing Xia Dongyang's concerns, Lu Yun added,

"Don't worry. Although Mo Yu doesn't talk much, he's a good child. His sister was admitted to Xia Jing Academy last year."

"If Xia Xue enters Xia Jing Academy as well, she might even be able to look after Lin Mohan."

With that reassurance, Xia Dongyang finally relaxed.

After years of interaction, he trusted Lu Yun's character completely.

Inside the novice dungeon, Lin Moyu received a message from one of his skeleton warriors.

[Maximum distance reached. Unable to advance further.]

The farthest skeleton warrior was already five hundred meters away from him.

It stood still at that point, no longer moving forward.

Lin Moyu understood immediately—his skeleton warriors could not stray more than five hundred meters from him.

Seeing several others nearing the same limit, he issued an order for them to return.

Standing still wasn't an option. Lin Moyu chose a direction and continued deeper into the dungeon.

The ten skeleton warriors spread out in a fan-shaped formation ahead of him, maintaining a distance of about one hundred meters.

Any monster they encountered was instantly slain.

Four hours after entering the dungeon, Lin Moyu welcomed his third level-up.

[Name: Lin Moyu]

[Profession: Necromancer (Unique)]

[Level: 4 (0.00%)]

[Strength: 40]

[Agility: 40]

[Spirit: 80]

[Equipment: None]

[Summoning Space: 10/40]

[Summoned Units: Skeleton Warrior ×10]

[Talent: Overall Amplification (Level 1 · Unique)]

[Passive Skill: Damage Transfer]

[Active Skills: Soul Flame (Lv.4), Summon Skeleton Warrior (Lv.4)]

After leveling up, Lin Moyu immediately continued summoning skeleton warriors.

At this point, each summon consumed 25 points of spiritual power.

Three levels gained consecutively in just four hours.

As the number of skeleton warriors increased, the leveling speed not only failed to slow—it showed signs of accelerating.

Lin Moyu led his skeletal army into the second half of the novice dungeon.

Large numbers of Level 5 and Level 6 monsters began to appear.

Yet in front of skeleton warriors boasting 450 Strength, they were no more than fodder.

One strike. One kill.

[Killed Level 5 Green Wolf, EXP +50]

[Killed Level 6 Panther, EXP +60]

To Lin Moyu, killing Level 1 monsters or Level 6 monsters made no difference in efficiency.

Naturally, the higher the monster level and the denser their numbers, the better.

Three more skeleton warriors rose from the ground.

The total reached thirteen.

Thirteen skeleton warriors ravaged the novice dungeon like a natural disaster.

Experience points surged continuously.

With more skeletons, the upgrade speed grew faster instead of slowing down.

"At this rate, I can level up again in less than an hour."

"Twelve hours on the first day… can I directly reach Level 8?"

"This is twice as fast as I expected. Once I hit Level 8, I can head to the outskirts of Xihai City, where stronger monsters are."

Lin Moyu had already mapped out his future progression.

Leaving the city required school approval—without it, the city guards would never allow passage.

Level 8 was the absolute minimum.

[Killed Level 7 Brown Bear, EXP +70]

As Lin Moyu ventured deeper, Level 7 monsters began to appear.

Still—instant kills.

The novice dungeon existed specifically for beginners.

Monster strength was low, the terrain was simple, and overall safety was far higher than the wilderness.

Even so, Lin Moyu remained vigilant.

In his memories, Lin Mohan had once returned from the outskirts of Xihai City covered in blood, badly injured.

She had told him with utmost seriousness:

Even lions use their full strength when hunting rabbits.

Never underestimate your enemy.

Lin Moyu etched those words deep into his heart.

And now—

He practiced them without exception.
