Because the power was out and there was no hot water, everyone had to gnaw on them dry.
When the noodles were being distributed to the girls" side, one of the boys from the group that had been whispering earlier stood up. With a smile on his face, he said to Lucas Wilson: "Lucas Wilson, just give the girls half a pack each."
As soon as these words came out, everyone looked at him.
Emma Smith noticed that, aside from the one who stood up, the others who had been gossiping were all staring at the instant noodles in Lucas Wilson's arms.
Their eyes were filled with malice.
…
Alice Brown stood up, glaring furiously at the boy: "On what grounds!"
"Girls have smaller appetites. What's wrong with eating half a pack?" The boy who stood up glanced impatiently at Alice Brown, then turned his attention back to Lucas Wilson.
Lucas Wilson was well-known throughout the university and was the Student Union President, which was why these boys chose to negotiate with him.
Lucas Wilson rejected the request: "Everyone's portion is the same. Doing that would be unfair to the girls."
After Lucas Wilson spoke, the boys behind that student also stood up, looking at Lucas Wilson with unfriendly eyes: "I'm discussing this with you out of respect for you being the Student Union President. Don't push your luck."
Hannah Miller looked at them and remembered who they were.
The first one to stand was named Zack Martin, a graduate student in the School of Finance. The boys behind him were his dormmates.
Zack Martin had bragged more than once that he was the only son in the third generation of the Zheng family and that the entire family fortune would be his alone.
"Why should we listen to you?" Hannah Miller stood beside Lucas Wilson and said coldly.
Zack Martin rolled his eyes impatiently at Hannah Miller: "Head full of messy red hair... obviously not from a decent family."
"We're trapped in this building now. Food is scarce. The cafeteria and supermarket are occupied by Evil Seeds. We only have the food from the vending machines. If we encounter danger, we guys will contribute much more than you. Naturally, more food should be reserved for the men. As for you lot, having a bite to eat is enough. It's not like you women can help with anything against the Evil Seed invasion anyway!"
There had always been people like this in society. In times of peace and rule of law, they had to hide their sense of superiority, only daring to clamor on the internet. But once reality was no longer bound by morals and laws, their pitiful superiority complex would gain the upper hand.
Jessica Williams tore open a pack of instant noodles and walked over while gnawing on it, standing right in front of Zack Martin: "Can't help? How many Evil Seeds have you taken down?"
Jessica Williams's arms were covered in blood. In this darkness, the blood became a symbol of her status.
Zack Martin shrank back, his arrogance dimming slightly: "Aside from you having strength barely comparable to a man's, the other girls are all useless!"
Zack Martin's words were ugly. The atmosphere in the dim library was now stretched to the breaking point.
The girls shared a common hatred for the enemy, and Lucas Wilson and some other boys also chose to stand with the girls. Including Jessica Williams, those advocating for giving the girls half a pack of noodles only made up a third of the group.
Lucas Wilson spoke coldly: "We are facing a disaster, a war. In war, every bit of strength is precious. Every person is a hope for survival. I will not favor one over the other."
Lucas Wilson ordered the noodles to be distributed to the girls.
Although Zack Martin and his group were seething with resentment, they knew they wouldn't gain anything from a fight right now. They could only sit further away, suppressing their anger as they gnawed on their noodles.
This small group of forty-some people had already split into two factions over just a few packs of instant noodles.
Within three days, the food in the building would be gone.
When the food really ran out, the resentment in the hearts of the dissatisfied would reach its peak.
If a conflict truly erupted, how many would care about the lives of others?
The situation was approaching an apocalypse. Without the constraint of law, these people would soon revert to the brutal, predatory instincts in their bones.
In a state of extreme hunger, these people wouldn't need a virus to become the new Evil Seeds.
…
"We can't just sit here and wait for death." Emma Smith said, looking at Alice Brown, Hannah Miller, and the others after finishing her noodles.
Lucas Wilson also sat down. Hearing her words, he looked over.
"Within three days, we need to arm this building. We also need to store enough food and water, and find transportation."
Emma Smith's voice wasn't loud, but the area was very quiet, so quite a few people heard her.
Everyone looked at her silently.
"You all saw the government broadcast. If we don't escape to the border within a month, the military will open fire on the city. If we keep hiding in this building, even if the Evil Seeds don't find us, we'll be blown to pieces."
Lucas Wilson lowered his eyes in thought, hesitation visible in his gaze: 'there are too many Evil Seeds in the school. If we move, we'll likely be discovered. Getting the things we need within three days... it's basically an impossible mission."
"We can split up."
As she spoke, Emma Smith picked up an alcohol lamp and placed it in front of everyone. She casually took a book from the shelf and grabbed a black marker from a pen holder on a communal desk.
"Behind the girls" dormitory is the indoor basketball court the school was preparing to build. There are a lot of construction materials there, hammers, mallets, steel bars. Those things can serve as our weapons. And getting there only requires crossing the bicycle shed and the girls" dorm building."
