Chapter 7 - Operation Theatre

Walking towards the emergency stairs, I looked at the way going up to the 16th floor.

[Eyes of the Timekeeper!]

How long will it take for the zombies to come down here from the 16th floor?

[4 Hours 15 Minutes 17 Seconds!]

Good enough.

Slowly moving downwards, trying not to make a single sound, I checked the stairs ahead for any signs of zombies. And then, making sure that there were none, I descended a bit more, reaching almost the 14th floor, just about 4 steps left.

How long will it take for the zombies to come up here from the 13th floor?

[1 Hours 11 Minutes 23 Seconds!]

Slowly descending, I reached the emergency gate and opened it up, trying to create as low a sound as possible.

-Creaaaak!!!!

"That went perfectly." I clicked my tongue as I stepped back immediately before asking rapid-fire questions.

How long will it take for the zombies to come down here from the 16th floor?

[4 Hours 14 Minutes 11 Seconds!]

How long will it take for the zombies to come up here from the 13th floor?

[1 Hours 10 Minutes 50 Seconds!]

How long will it take for the zombies to come out of that emergency gate on the 14th floor?

[10 Minutes 11 Seconds!]

"So it did attract a few zombies, but there weren't any close by, huh?" I concluded as I put my hands on my heart, calming it down. While it said 10 minutes, I still stayed sharp as I moved closer to the emergency exit, before entering the 14th floor hallway.

Unlike the 15th floor, it did not have any railings and was sealed from all sides except for a few occasional windows in between that were also pretty much locked all the time. In fact, all the floors between floors 10 and 14 were locked, and used only by the doctors or the staff members.

All right. We go straight to the end and then right; we reach the supply room. Or we can go right first and then left. I considered my choices here.

Zombies from the front in?

[4 Hours 11 Minutes 13 Seconds!]

Zombies from the right in?

[9 Minutes 2 Seconds!]

Right had 4 recovery rooms, and two operation theaters on its way, meaning more zombies upfront, but going straight meant that if any zombies came from behind, I might get trapped from both sides.

I took about a few seconds to consider before deciding to go right as it would leave me with an opening to escape from.

"All right. One step at a time," I mumbled as I moved forward, before turning to the right. One step at a time, I reached the first recovery room, checked that it was empty, before moving to the next.

All right, the first two are empty.

I sighed in relief before looking at the operation theater opposite the second recovery room. Entering it slowly, I checked for any zombies first. Checking behind the bed and in the corners was a must before I checked for any supplies.

Luckily, I did not come across any zombies, but the instruments were also not present there. It made me sigh before I turned around, got out of the room, and then checked the third recovery room.

Slowly, the door opened.

Gulp.

I looked at the zombie standing against the wall on the opposite side, staring into oblivion. He was someone I knew, a junior resident surgeon named Mark. Quite a cheerful guy, but now that I look at him… I could only sigh.

I pondered for a few seconds before closing the door and then silently locking it from the outside. If it were just one zombie, I did not need to worry about it breaking the door and coming at me anytime soon.

Even if it does, I will be long gone by then. I sighed in relief before moving to the fourth recovery room, which was also empty.

But that cannot be said for the second operation theater.

As soon as I opened the door, I saw 5 zombies eating the patient on the bed. They were all dressed as surgeons, giving me a general idea of what might have happened in this room. I could only pray silently for the man on the bed for what he might have gone through.

-Rawr!

-Rawr!

Two of the zombies stopped eating before slowly turning around as they looked at me while I stepped back, luring them out of the room. If I can space them away from each other, it would work best for me.

Stepping back into the alleyway, I saw the two zombies following me before I stopped in front of the 2nd recovery room.

[Eyes of the Timekeeper!]

How much time before the front zombie attacks me?

[14 Seconds!]

How much time before the zombie behind him attacks me?

[17 Seconds!]

Keeping the timer on, I kept waiting for the zombie to get closer to me. I trusted the timer more than my eyes and senses for the timing as I waited for it to reach zero.

Raising my crowbar up in the air, I kept looking at the time, each passing second my heartbeat rose.

[5 Seconds!]

[3 Seconds!]

[1 Second!]

-Rawr!

And swing!

-BAM!!

I hit the first zombie on its head as it stumbled and fell on the ground. Since there was no notification of its death, I believed it was still alive. Though I still took some steps back, positioning myself for the second zombie.

[3 Seconds!]

[1 Second!]

-Rawr!

Swing!

-BAM!

Once again, this one did not die either. He stumbled before falling down. Though taking the small window that I had.

-BAM!

-BAM!

-BAM!

[You have killed an E-Grade Zombie!]

[+50 Exp Recieved!]

E-Grade? Are you kidding me? My eyes widened at what that implied. It was the first time I was noticing this system message, and analyzing what it meant made me shiver, sending a chill down my spine.

But this was for a later time…

I moved closer to the other zombie that was getting back up.

-BAM!

-BAM!

[You have killed an E-Grade Zombie!]

[+50 Exp Recieved!]

As I was done killing two of them, I noticed the other zombies from the operation theatre were also coming in my direction. Slowly, one at a time.

Even though I was a little out of breath, I calmed myself down. Taking a deep breath, I then turned to the zombies, focusing on them as they moved closer to me.

"Sorry, guys, not enough fucks left to give," I said as I gripped the crowbar tightly.
