Chapter 1 - The veiled dancer

The House of Flowing Silk had never looked more alive. Lanterns swung gently in the evening breeze, casting golden light across polished wooden floors and silk banners. The soft murmur of anticipation filled the hall as guests took their seats, unaware that they were about to witness more than a dance they were about to glimpse the power behind the veil.

‎ From the shadows, she appeared. Lian Yue.

‎ Her pale pink silk dress glided across the floor, the fabric catching the light like the first blush of dawn. Over half her face fell a light pink veil, sheer enough to reveal glimpses of her ash-blue eyes siren eyes that drew attention without demanding it. Her short hair was pinned neatly with gold hairpins, delicate ornaments that jingled faintly with her movement. Small, natural beauty marks dotted her skin, and her rosy lips curved slightly not enough to smile, but enough to hint at life beneath her calm exterior.

‎ She began to dance.

‎ It was a dance that was mesmerized. Every movement was precise, every gesture intentional. Hands twirled like flowing water, feet glided silently over the floor, and her veil swayed as though it were part of the music. The guests watched in awe, clapping politely, yet no one dared approach too closely. She was a dancer, yes but her presence radiated authority, intelligence, and the quiet promise of danger.

‎behind the veil, Lian Yue's mind worked constantly. She noticed a dancer falter slightly, her gaze registering the smallest signs of nervousness. A subtle gesture from her corrected it instantly. Every eye, every whisper, every movement in the room was catalogued. This was her domain, and she controlled it silently.

‎ Far away, in the palace, Prince Shen Yi moved with purpose. His dark eyes scanned troop reports and court messages, calculating, observing. He had never seen her, never heard her name, yet somewhere deep in his mind, a curiosity stirred. A dancer commanding sixty people like generals,he filed it away, intrigued but cautious.

‎ Back at the House of Flowing Silk, Mei Ran, her second-in-command, whispered a warning. "Eastern posts report unusual movements," she said softly. Lin Tao added, "Nothing immediate, but… unrest is growing."Lian Yue's lips curved slightly. Not surprised, not fear, just acknowledgment. Her house was safe, for now. But her enemies the nobles who had destroyed her family, the ones still scattered across the nation were not far behind. Each movement, each whisper of danger, would be recorded, calculated, and, eventually, avenged.

‎ When the dance ended, she retreated behind the stage. Her dancers bowed, and she offered a faint nod in return. Loyalty and discipline flowed from her like water; her people moved as one, silent and obedient. She didn't need to speak her presence alone commanded respect.

‎Alone in her chamber, she removed her veil. Candlelight danced across her face, highlighting the subtle plum blossom patterns woven into the silk her favorite flower, a symbol of endurance and NM strength. Gold hairpins reflected the glow as she brushed her short hair back from her face. A soft knock heralded a messenger, who entered silently, bowing low.

‎"Mistress," he whispered, "the emperor has begun noticing the prince's unusual… distractions."

‎Her ash-blue eyes narrowed ever so slightly, calm yet cold. She did not flinch, did not panic. "Then we prepare," she said quietly, almost to herself. The messenger left, and Lian Yue remained alone, the faint scent of silk and candle smoke surrounding her. She would protect her house. She would reclaim what was taken. And she would do so with intelligence, grace, and quiet, unstoppable power.

‎Outside, the city slept, unaware that a storm was gathering. And within the walls of the House of Flowing Silk, the veiled dancer waited for it.
