Chapter 56 - The Poseidon Protocol

[The Council of Five - The Orbiting Satellite Station]

High above the Earth, a black satellite drifted silently. It wasn't a communications relay. It was a weapon. The General (Seat 2) watched the monitor from his bunker on Earth.

"Civil unrest failed," The General growled. "Assassination failed. He has built a fortress."

"Water is the ultimate solvent," The Elder (Seat 1) whispered through the speakers. "No wall can stop the ocean. Initiate The Poseidon Protocol."

The General typed a code into the console. [Target: Neo-Atlantis.] [Weapon: Tectonic Resonance Emitter.] [Yield: 100%.]

"Goodbye, King Alex," The General pressed the red button.

[Neo-Atlantis - The Beach]

It was a beautiful afternoon. Citizens were walking along the solar-glass promenade. Children were playing in the sand. Suddenly, the water stopped moving. Then, it started to retreat.

The ocean was sucked back, revealing miles of wet sand and flopping fish. "Look!" a tourist pointed. "Low tide?"

[The Royal Palace - Command Center]

Alex was reviewing the mining reports when the alarms screamed. It wasn't the "Intruder" alarm. It was the "Global Catastrophe" alarm.

"Sir!" Dawn's voice was frantic—a rare emotion for an AI. "Seismic anomaly detected! A magnitude 9.0 earthquake has been triggered artificially on the ocean floor, 50 miles south."

"A quake?" Alex stood up.

"No, Sir," Dawn projected the simulation. "A Tsunami. Height: 300 feet. Impact time: 4 minutes."

[The Impact Zone]

The horizon turned black. A wall of water, taller than the Statue of Liberty, was rushing toward the island at 500 miles per hour. It roared like a thousand jet engines.

The citizens on the beach screamed. They ran, but there was nowhere to go. The island was flat. The wave would wash over the entire city, crushing the skyscrapers and drowning everyone.

"We are all going to die!" a woman cried, clutching her child.

[The Palace]

"Dawn," Alex asked calmly. "Can the Aegis Shield stop it?"

"Negative," Dawn replied. "The Aegis Shield is designed for missiles, not kinetic fluid dynamics. The pressure of that much water will collapse the dome instantly."

Alex walked to the window. He saw the death wall approaching. It blocked out the sun. He checked his watch. 2 Minutes.

"The Council thinks they are gods because they can shake the earth," Alex sneered.

He opened the System Store. He went to the [Planetary Defense] tab. He scrolled past "Bunkers" and "Boats."

Item: Ark Ship (Survival). Cost: $10 Billion.

Item: Gravity Disrupter (localized). Cost: $50 Billion.

Item: The Moses Field (Hydro-Kinetic Repulsor). Cost: $100 Billion.

"System," Alex's eyes burned gold. "I don't want to survive the wave. I want to humiliate it."

"Buy the Moses Field."

[Transaction Processing...] [System Warning: High Energy Output. May cause permanent atmospheric changes.] [Confirm?]

Alex slammed his hand on the "Yes" button. "Let them see what real power looks like."
