Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: The Opening of a New Era

Back when Lucas first watched the films, he had strongly criticized Clark's habit of relying purely on overwhelming physical strength, completely ignoring combat technique.

Yet some people argued that once someone reached Superman's level of physical power, combat skills no longer mattered.

To those people, Lucas could only respond with the kind of look one gives after passing by a certain special psychiatric hospital.

Think about it carefully—whether in the Avengers or the Justice League, how many truly top-tier heroes lack any form of combat training or martial expertise?

Against ordinary or even moderately dangerous criminals, perhaps technique is unnecessary.

But what about enemies of equal or greater strength?

The most classic example is Man of Steel—Faora and General Zod, newly arrived on Earth, were both Kryptonians with highly refined combat techniques.

If Clark hadn't had protagonist-level plot armor and absurd growth potential, he would have been beaten to death countless times over.

Because of that, Lucas had absolutely no intention of letting Kara develop the same bad habits as Clark.

Seeing the sincerity in Lucas's eyes, Kara finally stopped insisting and agreed to follow his advice and learn proper combat techniques.

This also gave Lucas an opportunity to learn alongside her and make up for his own shortcomings.

After all, even though he was a transmigrator and a Saiyan, his actual combat experience was still lacking, and his technique remained crude.

Vegeta was a Saiyan prince.

Goku had his grandfather and Master Roshi.

Lucas, on the other hand, could only teach himself whatever fighting skills he could manage.

Soon after, he led Kara to a quiet corner of the living room.

"How have things been going over at Luthor's place lately?" Lucas asked.

Due to strict confidentiality requirements, Lex Luthor's research facility was fully sealed, capable of blocking most external signals.

Kara answered honestly, "I've already translated all the Kryptonian text and language on the ship for them. The decryption process is now on track—there should be good news soon."

"Don't worry. I didn't reveal a single word of unnecessary Kryptonian information."

Then her expression turned serious.

"There's also something very important. When I accessed the ship's information archive, I found something unusual."

Lucas immediately asked, "What kind of information?"

"There's a place where many Kryptonians and Kryptonian super-criminals are imprisoned. It's a void—without time or spatial concepts."

"The one who attacked us earlier barely escaped from the outer perimeter of that place."

Lucas's expression grew grave.

"The Phantom Zone—a special extradimensional prison."

Kara looked surprised. "My father mentioned it when I was young. Krypton used it to imprison super-criminals and dangerous alien offenders."

"There's nothing inside—only endless darkness and emptiness. Even the most strong-willed warriors eventually collapse in that void."

Lucas reassured her, "It's fine. Even if they escape, they won't necessarily come to Earth. And if they do, you and I are here."

Though he said it calmly, Lucas had already prepared himself mentally.

'Let's hope things don't deviate too far from the movie timeline,' he thought.

Kara continued, "By the way, didn't you tell me before to make sure I didn't leave behind any biological samples or DNA at Luthor's facility?"

"I discovered that Luthor secretly had people following me every day, trying to obtain samples."

"But don't worry—I was prepared. Every time I noticed something suspicious, I destroyed it immediately."

Lucas nodded with satisfaction. "Very good. Looks like there's no need for me to ask more."

Two days later—

When Nick Fury stepped out of his car and looked up, he froze on the spot.

Floating above the house was a triangular, flattened spacecraft.

And that massive luxury villa beneath it—what the hell was that?

He glanced around to confirm that the location matched his memory.

It did.

"Holy motherfucker!"

"What the hell is that bastard doing now?!"

Fury's face darkened instantly. He pulled out his phone and quickly typed a message.

If an ordinary person saw it, they would only see meaningless gibberish—this was his newly established secure channel with an embedded agent.

[Explain immediately. What is the deal with the house and the spaceship?]

This agent had been deliberately stationed nearby—posing as a hardcore gamer—whose sole job was to observe Lucas Reed's residence.

The reply nearly made Fury explode.

[Reporting, Director. Everything is normal.]

"Normal my ass. Normal your whole damn family!"

Fury's face turned as dark as a cast-iron pan.

He immediately sent another message:

[Mission terminated. Return immediately.]

Then another to a trusted subordinate:

[Take Agent 2141 in for a full neurological examination, especially the memory regions. I want the report as soon as possible.]

After sending the messages, Fury straightened his black leather coat, pinched his face, and strode up to the front door, pressing the doorbell.

When he entered the living room and saw the unfamiliar Eternals, his head filled with question marks.

"Sit," Lucas said lazily from the sofa. "What brings you here?"

He had just returned from training with Kara and felt extremely relaxed after taking a shower.

"That… spaceship on your roof," Fury asked carefully. "Is that something new you acquired?"

"That belongs to them." Lucas gestured toward the Eternals.

"Aliens?" Fury asked, surprisingly calm.

"Eternals," Lucas replied. Knowing Fury, it wasn't strange that he showed no shock.

"For Earth?" Fury pressed.

"Long-term residents. No hostile intent," Lucas answered succinctly.

"Can they help?" Fury began scheming.

"Ask them," Lucas shrugged.

Fury nodded with satisfaction. As long as they weren't stubborn stones like Lucas, he was confident he could persuade them to join the Avengers Initiative.

"Is that all you came for?" Lucas asked.

Originally, Fury had wanted to ask which construction company had built the villa—but he quickly refocused.

He pulled out a file and handed it to Lucas.

"Tony Stark is missing?" Lucas asked, reading the contents.

"That's right. After the summit meeting, Tony Stark went to Afghanistan to deliver a weapons order to the military."

"After that, his convoy was attacked by terrorists, and Stark himself went missing."

Hearing this, Lucas immediately understood.

The Iron Man storyline had officially begun.

The era of the Avengers had started.

And Thanos's so-called universal population control plan had entered its countdown phase.
