Aiden wrapped his hands around his cup like it was an anchor. It seems that he was a bit confused about the current situation.
"So." He said gently, breaking the silence without shattering it. "Do you want the honest version or the polite one?"
"About?"I blinked.
"Why am I here?" He said. "And why I didn't walk out the second I realized your parents were them."
"If you figured that out in five minutes, you are already ahead of most people."That earned a breath of real laughter from me.
He smiled, small and crooked. Not practiced. Not sharp. Just a human.
"Honest, then." I said.
Aiden nodded.
"They asked me to meet you because they think compatibility is something you can arrange like a business merger. I said yes because I wanted to see if you were actually as terrifyingly independent as everyone says."Aiden explained.
