Bella's POV
"Ivy!" Jasper's voice cracked as he sprinted toward the water's edge. I watched his face crumble when he spotted Ivy thrashing in the freezing current, panic flooding his features.
His desperate gaze swept over the three of us before locking onto Lucius. "Lucius, get in there and save her!"
Of course he'd expect Lucius to dive in—after all, the man was engaged to Ivy.
But Lucius just stood there, frozen. Instead of jumping into action, he turned toward me, his eyes burning with some internal battle I couldn't decipher.
"What the hell are you waiting for?" Jasper's voice pitched higher, bordering on hysteria. "She's going to drown!"
Lucius finally dragged his stare away from me, taking a shaky breath before moving toward the riverbank.
He peered down at Ivy's flailing form and, without hesitation, plunged into the water.
The river wasn't particularly deep. Ivy had been struggling for a while but hadn't gone under yet.
