I stared at Genevieve in bewilderment, wondering what Ivy's upcoming marriage had to do with me.
After a moment's reflection, I realized Genevieve had come to speak with Ursula about wedding gifts.
Before I'd been discovered, the Fairfax family had only set aside modest presents for Ivy. Technically, those gifts should have been mine, considering Ivy was the second daughter.
Now that we were both entering marriages with equally distinguished families, our wedding presents couldn't appear cheap.
Traditionally, Genevieve's wedding gifts should come to me, since I'm the legitimate Fairfax daughter.
Yet Genevieve had raised Ivy from birth and couldn't stand to see her treated poorly.
After wrestling with the dilemma, Genevieve could only approach Ursula, hoping she'd provide Ivy with an additional portion.
Given Ursula's substantial wealth and her respect for Genevieve, she certainly wouldn't be miserly.
