"I dare you to make a move, dirt dog!" Julius shot back with orange-colored mana emanating from him, while simultaneously drawing a katana that was strapped to his side and pointing it towards Percival.
He was of the saber class.
"Oh shit!" Ethan muttered to himself, knowing that his best friend Percival was going to take the bait.
Percival's grin widened as he moved aside from his seat.
There was tension in the class, and just as the class president Anna moved to stop the commotion, Mr. Kieran walked in.
"Alright, everyone settle down. Percival, put those claws away." Then he turned towards Julius. "And you, sheathe that blade."
Ethan heaved a sigh of relief. "Right timing, Mr. Kieran. Right timing," Ethan said in his thoughts.
He was certain if Mr. Kieran didn't step in when he did, this whole situation would've been like that time in second year when Percival got into a fight with the vampire, Wilson.
And terribly got beaten up for it, by the way.
But then again, this situation had just given Ethan the perfect idea. Percival might be that typical werewolf hothead that went around fighting everyone, but he was also the best Warrior Class specialist of the final years.
So yes, this werewolf might as well just be the right person to guide him through the warrior class, and Ethan decided he'd ask after class today.
Out of seven classes, he had just gotten tutors for two. Ethan was certain Percival wouldn't refuse his request.
Although he mentally began preparing himself to answer lots of questions from Percival as to how he, Ethan, was anything other than a caster.
Both students eventually did as Mr. Kieran asked and sat down on their seats. "Thank your luck, Julius," Percival muttered under his breath.
Ethan shook his head in amusement.
Mr. Kieran, the only one from the demon race in Belsorth Academy, stood before the rest of the class with a few files in hand.
The nickname the class gave him was "The Man who never smiles" and he was homeroom teacher for the final years. As such, he was responsible for handling their final year assessment.
He stared around, trying to make sure everyone was in class before he began. Then he noticed two seats were empty.
Wilson Heydrich and Beatrice Morgenstein weren't in class.
Kieran shook his head in disappointment. How do you miss class on Assessment announcement day?
But right in that moment, the two of them walked in holding hands like lovebirds with smiles on their faces.
Speak of the devils.
They both walked in without a care in the world, separating their hands at a point to go sit in their corners, and without an apology to the homeroom teacher, even though they knew they were late.
Well, Mr. Kieran was already used to disregard and disrespect from Academy students, especially ones from noble families. Belsorth was No. 1 in the country because these families were also their patrons.
In essence, you could say Kieran earned his salary from the nobles.
Murmurs quickly erupted amongst members of the class as they both walked in. It was now they understood why Ethan came to class alone today. They were broken up.
And to them, Beatrice had finally dumped him.
Just like Beatrice, Wilson was the son of one of the seven vampire lords in the country. Lord Heydrich. He was of the Saber class and the most talented in the class, given his talent level was at S-class.
He had really long dark hair that he tied into a ponytail and looked every bit of perfect.
Some people were of the opinion that Wilson had already reached the peak of what was achievable as a saber-classed specialist in an Academy and would be one of those to eventually reawaken as a Sword Saint one day.
The only experience left for him now, was out there.
So when one really looked at it, Wilson was more than a significant upgrade to Ethan as a boyfriend, if we weren't counting pocket size.
When Beatrice sat on her seat, she turned towards Ethan's side of the class with a mocking expression on her face. The type that said, "I got me a better man now."
But Ethan didn't look in her direction. He didn't even look like he cared.
Instead, Beatrice got the face of Percival, who had turned to her and responded by blowing raspberries at her in the most annoying manner.
Which only just pissed the Morgenstein off a lot more.
Aside from the fact Ethan genuinely didn't care, this whole scenario didn't come as a surprise to him. Ethan was fairly certain that after he kicked his vampire ex out of his house yesterday, the first person she called was Wilson.
The Heydrich always had a thing for Beatrice and had always been at her beck and call when she needed.
He might be all-talented, but bro will always be her simp.
"Everyone, please quiet it down," Kieran said, trying to get the class to return to normalcy so that he could get on with important class stuff and announcements.
The class slowly returned their focus back to their homeroom tutor, and with that, he began.
"Alright, everyone, welcome to the last month of final year, and the most important one, which we will be kicking off with your finalist assessments."
He let that sink in, then continued.
"Management just concluded the Class Verification exercise for the first years about thirty minutes ago, and just like it was for you people back then, at least one first-year student will be assigned to each of you, and you're expected to mentor them."
The class groaned. Back then when they were the first years, they had each been assigned to a senior under a sort of mentorship program.
But it was now that they were the seniors that they felt the same pain the seniors of back then felt.
"Don't complain, guys," Kieran continued. "This is part of your assessment and is only going to be for the next three days. You'll be graded based on the review of the first year assigned to you. But don't you worry, they were each assigned based on the same class as you, so I don't expect there will be any difficulty guiding your mentees."
On Ethan's face right now was a look of terror. He knew the class was going to have the assessment talk today, but nothing prepared him for it to be mentorship.
He barely knew what he was doing as a caster, let alone how to guide someone else through it. Hell!, he had only gotten a magic tutor a few minutes ago.
If anybody was to be mentored, it should've been him.
He sighed, hating his life right now.
Mr. Kieran continued, "I will announce the first years assigned to you." He then pulled a sheet of paper from one of the files he came in with.
He straightened it out in front of him and began calling out one by one. "Rowan Tegal assigned to Anna Chauvelart, Gianna Mica assigned to Elizabeth Moore…"
Clumsy Bettie nodded in her seat after hearing the name of the first year assigned to her.
Mr. Kieran kept calling the names one by one, then eventually got to this part;
"Isabella Berlene Tudor assigned to Ethan Stark…"
Ethan rolled his eyes. "Oh dear…" he whispered.
And right then, the class couldn't help but react. Everyone knew the name Tudor, and most of them knew one of the King's daughters had joined Belsorth today.
Some people found the pairing weird, and some people couldn't just help themselves but react. I mean, it's the King's daughter we're talking about here.
A lot of them had never interacted with royalty before.
Percival, to Ethan's side, was overjoyed because to him, this was the perfect opportunity. He immediately leaned towards Ethan with prayerful, sincere eyes and said, "When you meet with Isabella, you have to put in a good word for me, man…"
Ethan whispered back, "What the hell, Percival, Mr. Kieran hasn't even finished with the list…"
And the whispers continued between them both, with Percival mostly pleading his case desperately.
There was a frown on Beatrice's face. This was that psychopathic side of her that simply hated the reality that Ethan was going to interact with another female.
The burning sensation in her heart couldn't bear the thought of Ethan now being a single male who could interact with anyone he wanted.
Mr. Kieran eventually got through the rest of the names on the list before adding, "The first years are currently waiting for each of you in the courtyard at C-wing. They've already been told who they are assigned to, so you will all go there right after now to identify with the ones assigned to you."
There was a pause so that he could let it sink in before adding.
"You will all conclude your introductions within an hour because right after, we are starting the other part of your finalist assessment."
Everyone looked intently to know what was next.
"We are going to a Breach Zone."
And almost everyone in the class yelled, "WHATTT?!"
