Story starts with a boy named Ryusaka Hajime who is in his 20s.
January 3rd, 2026
It shows Ryusaka in a dark room, with the only light coming from his monitor, and him playing "The Last Zombie", a zombie apocalypse survival game. He has been playing this game for the last 2 days and has not gotten out of his home. His room is a complete mess. He is deadlocked in the game and then shows a slight smile, saying, "Finally, I did it. I beat the game." He tries to stand up and then suddenly faints.
January 4th, 2026
The next morning,
he wakes up and slowly opens his eyes, saying, "Huh? Where am I? Oh… I fainted yesterday because of all the gaming since that day." He then sets his room clean, brushes his teeth, eats breakfast, and gets out for the office.
He reaches his office. There is a 3-day holiday from his office on the occasion of New Year. He sits at his table and starts to work. After 3 hours, during lunch break, he goes to the canteen and sees Miss Kyan. She is his colleague. Actually, Ryusaka has a crush on her. He wants to ask her out, but things do not always go as we plan. Miss Kyan already has a boyfriend, and it is Ryusaka's senior colleague, Mr. Haruta.
On the 31st of December, Ryusaka proposes to Miss Kyan but gets rejected and goes into depression because of that, and plays a game for 2 days straight.
Back to the present, Miss Kyan calls out to Ryusaka, "Mr. Hajime!!" Ryusaka ignores her, takes his lunch, and gets out of the canteen.
5:36 PM, January 4th, 2026
Ryusaka finally gets all his work done and leaves the office. He is now at a bus station, waiting for the bus.
Ryusaka (in his mind): "Uhh, all this is so tiring and boring. I wish I was inside a zombie apocalypse game instead…"
He then sees a little girl on the other side of the road. She is following a butterfly. The butterfly goes towards the road, and the girl follows it. A bus is coming from the other side. Ryusaka sees it and tells the girl to stop. The girl does not hear him; she is trying to catch the butterfly. Ryusaka, trying to save the girl, jumps in front of the bus that is about to hit her. He pushes the girl towards the footpath. The girl is saved, but Ryusaka gets hit by the bus. Ryusaka's consciousness fades… he hears ambulance sirens and people gathering near him.
Year 2037
At the hospital, Ryusaka suddenly opens his eyes.
Ryusaka looks around, confused. The last thing he remembers is getting hit by a bus while saving a little girl. Then Ryusaka sees a TV playing in the hospital room he is in. The TV is broadcasting the news. The reporter is saying, "The world has been thrown into chaos. As we know, zombies are attacking buildings now. They have gained some intelligence over the course of the past 2 years and are now able to use basic tools like rods, swords, etc."
Someone interrupts the reporter and says, "Zombies have entered this building. Everyone escape!"
The TV channel shuts down.
Ryusaka says, "Huh? Is this some kind of comedy show? Zombies?… That's such a silly prank. Anyways, why am I in a hospital?"
He turns his head around and sees a calendar where the date is written 2037.
Ryusaka says, "What? Why is the date 2037… wait, it can't be." He looks for a mirror near him, then turns his head towards the mirror in the room and sees that he looks like a grown adult, with a beard on his face and long hair.
Ryusaka says, "So, I was hospitalized for 11 years? Was I in a coma? Ahh man, this is the worst."
He gets up from his bed and removes his saline and other medical equipment from his body. He tries to walk but feels very weak, yet somehow manages to go to the door, opens it, and steps outside the room. He looks to the right and sees a zombie a few meters away from him. The zombie suddenly turns its head towards Ryusaka upon hearing the sound of the door opening. The zombie rushes towards Ryusaka. Ryusaka is stunned, then instantly comes back to his senses and runs back inside the room, locking the door.
He huffs, "huff… huff…" The zombie slams the door. Ryusaka stops his breathing and stays completely still. After some time, the zombie goes the other way.
Ryusaka says, "What was that? Was the news before real!!??…"
Ryusaka slowly walks towards the window. He looks down through it and sees zombies everywhere on the roads—zombies destroying cars and buildings, causing fires and getting themselves burned. He sees a zombie attacking a man. It rips off the man's arm, then bites it, turning the man into a zombie. He looks further down the building to see how high he is, and from the look of it, he says, "I'm probably somewhere above the 10th floor."
Then a zombie suddenly looks towards Ryusaka. Ryusaka closes the window and the curtains instantly.
He sits on the floor below the window, trying to grasp the situation.
Ryusaka says, "What the hell is happening? Wait, let me think from the start. So I was hit by a bus, I went into a coma for 11 years, and now when I'm awake, the world has been thrown into a zombie apocalypse…!!??…"
