Chapter 106 - The Absurd Rescue Operation by the Show Crew

The boats capsized?

Everyone looked over.

They saw a large wave roll past, leaving only a few ridiculous plastic boats floating upside down on the now calm sea surface. The celebrity guests who had been racing each other while rowing had all disappeared.

Fortunately, they were still wearing life vests, and soon several artists who could swim emerged from the water one after another.

The show crew staff nearby hurried to pull people out.

To ensure cleaner and more beautiful maritime shooting angles, the production team had only dispatched two speedboats, each equipped with one cameraman, one follow-up director, one speedboat driver, and two safety rescuers. They were positioned on either side of the race track, responsible for filming the "battle situation" of both teams. Now that this situation had occurred, the safety personnel on the boats jumped into the water first, helping push several celebrity guests to climb back onto the boats.

"Only six people, there are still two missing! Has anyone seen them?"

Someone shouted loudly.

Not only were the show crew members looking around, but even Xiao He and the others nearby were also watching.

Their boat driver stopped the engine and said to Liu Rulan, "Sorry, please wait a moment. We need to confirm their locations first to ensure their safety."

A speedboat's propeller creates extremely strong suction and impact force when rotating, which is very dangerous for people in the water. Especially since their position was below where the waves were breaking, the waves could easily sweep people near them. So what they needed to do now was quickly stop the propeller.

Liu Rulan immediately nodded in understanding: "We understand."

Just then, Xiao Chen suddenly saw something and exclaimed, "Is that a person over there?"

Everyone immediately looked in the direction Xiao Chen was pointing, and then saw what appeared to be a bright yellow object floating not far from them—that was the show crew's life vest!

"Please sit tight, I'll drive over to check," the driver said, observing the sea surface around them before carefully steering the boat toward that area.

For some reason today, the originally somewhat cloudy weather suddenly became windy again in the blink of an eye, and even the white clouds took on a grayish hue.

This was the uncertainty of being on the sea, especially since this area had a tropical monsoon climate with significant atmospheric convection, often experiencing brief and immediate weather changes. But no one had expected they would encounter such conditions exactly at this time.

Looking at the increasingly bumpy speedboat, Xiao Chen grew somewhat panicked and asked quietly, "It... it won't capsize, will it? I can't swim either."

Xiao He, the fellow non-swimmer, comforted him: "It's fine, the speedboat's quality is much better than their plastic boats. We're quite safe now."

The driver headed toward the area and soon approached the spot Xiao Chen had mentioned.

Sure enough, a female artist was floating there.

Her face still showed panic, and when she saw the boat approaching, excitement appeared in her eyes. But as the boat got closer, she drifted further away with the waves, creating a stalemate between them.

"Can't we get any closer?" Liu Rulan grew anxious watching this, urgently asking the driver.

However, due to the high number of people out on boats today, this driver was temporarily brought in. Although he had a boating license, his skills weren't particularly good, and he wasn't a professional rescuer either. Seeing this situation, he was sweating profusely with anxiety and shouted hoarsely, "No, the waves are too big. I'm afraid I might hit her."

Xiao He stood up and, coordinating with the driver's direction, threw the lifebuoy with attached rope toward her.

Unfortunately, the female artist in the sea kept moving. After the lifebuoy landed on the water, she indeed struggled to swim toward it and grab hold, but still failed. It was clear she couldn't swim.

Xiao He and Xiao Chen quickly pulled back the lifebuoy and threw it again, but still failed.

The driver had stopped too far away, and the influence of sea wind and waves also made their aim poor. The choppy sea surface was making people feel dizzy for the first time. Xiao He sat back down, holding his head, feeling like he was about to vomit on the boat.

The driver also knew his driving skills were poor. He first used the walkie-talkie to report the general situation to people on shore, then turned off the engine and said to the three of them, "No other way. Please stay seated. I'll go down to rescue her. Don't touch the instruments."

Right after the driver went into the water, Xiao Chen spoke with a trembling voice, "I... I think I see someone else."

Xiao He: ?

Wait, what kind of eyesight does Xiao Chen have? The MVP of this entire scene?

He and Liu Rulan turned to look in the other direction Xiao Chen was pointing.

Sure enough, on the undulating sea surface, a black dot was bobbing up and down in the water.

And it looked even worse than the female artist over here, because his life jacket was missing.

Liu Rulan squinted her eyes and recognized the person: "I know him, it should be Xu Yin."

Xiao He immediately thought of the information he'd heard in the car earlier: "Xu Yin? Yinyin? Oh no, he can't swim!"

"Ah, he's sinking!"

Xiao Chen immediately shouted nervously.

Xiao He turned around, wanting to call for help from the show crew people.

But as soon as he turned back—good grief, how did they drift so far away?

Xiao Chen stood on the speedboat, frantically waving toward the show crew's boats, but it was useless. They were already in complete chaos themselves, and no one noticed their calls for help.

Although the driver had notified people on shore about the situation, from such a distance, by the time rescue boats arrived, the person here would already be blowing bubbles with the fish at the bottom of the sea.

Xiao He facepalmed, feeling deeply speechless: "I really admire them."

No organization, no planning, no safety measures whatsoever.

It was hard to imagine they would witness such a situation in such a large production crew.

No one would believe this if you told them!

Liu Rulan thought for a moment, then took off her shoes and socks and stood up.

Xiao He grabbed her arm: "What are you doing?"

"Saving him!"

Liu Rulan glanced back at Xiao He: "Right now, I'm the only one on this boat who can swim. That guy can't swim and won't last long. I'll take the lifebuoy and help him stay afloat for a while. When the driver gets back on board, you can come pick us up. Otherwise, he's definitely in danger."

Xiao He laughed in frustration: "The sea is so choppy, can you even swim over there? This is like trying to save ,but need saving yourself!"

As everyone knows, swimming in calm water and swimming in ocean waves are completely different things.

Otherwise, why would so many people drown at the beach every year? Is it really because they can't swim? No, as the saying goes, it's always the swimmers who drown.

Xiao He couldn't deny that the person genuinely needed help, but he couldn't agree with his manager having such a "naive" idea of rescue at this moment.

"No buts!"

Xiao He swung his long leg over and directly sat in the driver's seat.

"System, help me copy a driving skill," Xiao He stated the target he had been considering for his Skill Copy Capsule use, "Mastery of driving skills for various vehicles!"

[Please specify the real criminal target that needs to be copied.]

Xiao He: ?

Oh no, how could I forget this requirement?
