Chapter 2 - Chapter Two

The door bell chimed and Jasmine's mum,Jane went to get it. She opened the door and saw a stranger who was gorgeously handsome with a bouquet of sweet smelling rose flowers.

"Good afternoon."

"Afternoon, my dearie. How may I be of help?"

" I'm Davidson and I'm here to see your daughter, Jasmine." He replied. Though this pretty woman standing in front of him was young enough to be mistaken for Jasmine's elder sister but he reasoned that she must be the mother since she looked so protective.

"Come in," she said and led the way inside. " Sit down and make yourself comfortable," she added and then disappeared into the kitchen only to appear with some slices of cake and some juice for him.

"Enjoy," she smiled as she set the tray down.

"Thanks."

"Don't mention," she added and was about to go call her daughter when the latter walked into the room." You have a guest."

"David!" She exclaimed excitedly at the sight of him. "How unthoughtful of me. I totally forgot about our lunch date."

"That was why I arrived early enough." He replied with a smile.

"In that case, I would take fifteen minutes of your time."

"Take your time."

Jasmine rushed inside and Jane followed suite.

"This is not fair,Jasmine. You found a very handsome young man and yet you hid him away from me."

"Come on, Mum, not now." Jasmine said as she tried to adjust her lovely gown at the calves." He is my friend."

"Since when?" Jane asked quizzically.

"Last night. He brought me home when I had totally lost all hope of getting a cab."

"How kind of him," Jane smiled.

Jasmine turned abruptly." Mum, isn't this dress too revealing?"

"No,it has the right amount of cleavage and you look sweet," her mum said while she sprayed perfume.

They both walked out hand in hand.

"I'm ready," Jasmine announced.

Davidson turned to look at her. She looked ravishingly beautiful with little make up on. She walked up to take his outstretched hand while he kissed hers.

"Goodie!Goodie! You both look good together."

"Mum!"

"I appreciate the comment,Davidson smiled and turned to Jasmine. " Shall we?"

"Of course,0 she smiled back and glared at her Mum who was enjoying every bit of the show as if to as, I'll definitely get back at you.

Davidson led the way out and they drove to a restaurant.

The meal served, they fell into talking.

"So, Jasmine, tell me all about your self."

"What do you want to know?"

"Everything," he replied and they laughed.

"Okay. You already know my name. I'm twenty six year old and an upcoming chef. Favorite color is pink and my hobbies are cooking and discovering new recipes."

"Hmm, a chef. No wonder you took up cooking as a hobby. That would be the last thing I would ever consider. Cooking is stressful whether it's something as easy as making tea or preparing a heavy meal."

"Why do I have the feeling that you are quite the lazy type?"

"And you, my dear are not to be disappointed." He replied and they laughed. "My turn. You know my name already and as a young man at the age of thirty, I'm a junior resident doctor at the city's hospital. And when I can spare the time, I play tennis as a hobby."

"Wow, tennis. I've always wanted to play tennis but I was never a good player."

"I could tutor you."

"That is if I can spare some time from cooking."

"I'm sure your mum can handle the cooking while I tutor you."

"You aren't serious." Jasmine replied and they laughed.

"That reminds me, I didn't see your dad earlier on. Was he away at work?"

"No, dad died few years ago. And now , mum oversees the family business. She deals in textiles and fashion accessories. What do your parents do?"

"My dad is actually retired and my mum is a senior matron…"

"No wonder you went that line…"

"Actually, my dad retired from the medical line. So, young lady, I am my father's son."

"That's just a lame excuse. You took after your mum."Jasmine laughed. " Just admit it and I promise no one would hear of it."

"You are not serious…."

Jasmine had just stepped into the house only to find her mum grinning widely like someone who had just won a lottery. She sighed tiredly. She was definitely in no mood for whatever her mum had in stock.

"Mum, what is it this time?"

"I'm just happy that at least you have found someone worthy of your time. And he is so kind and handsome. Why do I get the feeling that he is the perfect match for you?"

"Come on, mum," Jasmine said taking off her shoes." Don't start exaggerating. We are just friends. Friends Mum and nothing else."

"I can already see both of you walking down the aisle. Davidson and Jasmine. I love the very sound of it. You both are going to give me seven grandchildren."

"Mum! Seven what?" Jasmine was shocked. Her mum was definitely trying to get on her nerves right now." Look mum, if you are interested in getting seven grandchildren, there is still a chance for you to get married again and give birth to beautiful and handsome children that would fulfill your wishes and give you tons and tons of grandchildren."

Her mum laughed mirthfully as she walked out of the sitting room.

Jasmine sighed as she walked to her room. She slumped on the huge divan bed to reminisce about the wonderful time she had had with Davidson; the smile on her face bright enough to illuminate a dark room. He was just perfect; her ideal man, she had to admit and her mum was right about that.

However, when the thought of the fact that her mum wanted seven grandchildren crossed her mind, she heaved a sigh. Her mum was just unbelievable…
