Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Combat Talent

The Sharingan possesses the abilities of observation, copying, and hypnosis. These are fundamental traits that any user can master once they awaken the eye.

When Luo Ning decided to reclaim his predecessor's father's Scarlet Eyes from Uvogin, he had already set his mind on using the Sharingan's hypnotic power—in other words, Genjutsu! The activation of Sharingan Genjutsu was simple: as long as the opponent met his gaze, he could use that connection to cast the illusion upon his target.

Thus, at the moment Uvogin threw the severed head to the ground, and just before the dense fog could completely swallow the visibility between them, Luo Ning leaped from the great tree in a display of "fury."

Uvogin was completely off guard; in fact, he had no reason to be on guard at all. However, as Luo Ning activated the Genjutsu, he discovered a problem: landing a successful hit on Uvogin would not be easy. The crux of the issue lay in the layer of Nen surrounding Uvogin's body.

Since the start of the battle, Uvogin had maintained a state of constant Nen emission. It was likely "Ren," a basic application of Nen. That powerful "Ren" served as Uvogin's ultimate protective umbrella. The intense personal will contained within that Nen was the key to resisting illusions. After all, the principle of Genjutsu was to use chakra to disturb the opponent's five senses, thereby trapping them in a hallucination.

Yet, Uvogin's Nen was as solid as a steel plate. With Luo Ning's current Sharingan mastery, it was impossible to interfere with the man for long. He could only manage to shake the Nen surrounding the brute for a fleeting moment. How much interference that would actually cause was entirely up to fate.

After confirming this, Luo Ning immediately followed the Genjutsu by bursting forward with explosive speed toward Uvogin. He didn't charge in a straight line, however. Instead, he lunged onto the branch of a nearby tree and dove from above toward the cloth bag hanging at Uvogin's waist.

The Scarlet Eyes had to be inside that bag. This was the route he had planned before ever revealing himself.

The interference caused by the Sharingan was even smaller than he had anticipated, but the full activation of the Hidden Mist Jutsu during this process allowed the surrounding fog to completely obscure all sight. This blindness only affected Uvogin. It wasn't that the fog didn't affect Luo Ning, but rather that the Sharingan's insight allowed him to see Uvogin's Nen clearly even within the thick mist.

Because of this, Uvogin's sudden outburst was well within his observations. He did not hesitate for a second. With his speed pushed to the limit, he successfully snatched the bag of Scarlet Eyes from Uvogin's waist.

As for Uvogin's redirected attack, it was also clearly visible through the Sharingan. Seeing it was one thing, but there was still a fundamental gap in their physical speeds. Consequently, when Luo Ning dodged, he appeared extremely forced and disheveled.

Luo Ning knew clearly that if he tripped or fell during this exchange, only death awaited him. Gritting his teeth, he dashed into the fog and secured the bag containing the Scarlet Eyes to his own waist.

With his hands free, Luo Ning immediately performed the Clone Technique. The clone continued to run forward while his true self took a sudden leap into the thick fog, landing on a branch he had scoped out earlier along his planned path.

He didn't dare use Earth Style: Headhunter Jutsu. The image of Uvogin smashing the Shadow Beast, Worm—who served under the Ten Don—was still fresh in his mind. That opponent had the same ability to dive underground. If he dared to burrow into the earth, Uvogin would only need to strike the ground with full force to crush him to death beneath the soil.

Everything unfolded exactly as he had calculated. Uvogin dispersed the clone and struck the ground. While the impact no longer threatened him up in the trees, Luo Ning knew he wasn't out of the woods yet. He had to distance himself from Uvogin as quickly as possible and find the marker Kortopi had placed on him. Only then could he truly escape the hunt.

A warm sensation returned to his eyes. Luo Ning knew this was caused by the overexertion of the Sharingan. However, he knew even better that he couldn't deactivate them yet. It wasn't time. He had to hold on a little longer.

The world before him began to blur as he moved continuously across the branches toward the mountain. Casting several ninjutsu and maintaining the Hidden Mist Jutsu over such a large area had nearly exhausted his meager chakra reserves. If not for his sheer willpower, he might have fallen from the trees long ago.

But his persistence paid off. Comparing his current state to his predecessor's memories, he detected a foreign presence on his person while fleeing. He found a sticker with the number "31" pressed against his chest. He ripped the sticker off, tossed it away haphazardly, and continued running.

It wasn't that he didn't want to dispose of it more carefully, but in this rain, he had no other options. He felt fortunate for the weather; the sound of the rain masked the rustling of leaves and branches as he moved through the forest. Otherwise, with Uvogin's hearing, he might have been caught despite his plan.

He took down the cloth bag and opened it. Inside were indeed a pair of eyes, fresh and blood-red, preserved in liquid. The moment he saw the Scarlet Eyes, Luo Ning felt a distinct signal of desire emanating from his own eyes. As for how to proceed, he was completely at a loss.

After traveling for another three minutes, Luo Ning stopped. His eyes reverted from the Sharingan to their normal black state. Amidst heavy, ragged breaths, Luo Ning quickly tried to suppress his presence, attempting to enter a state of Zetsu.

It wasn't as easy as he thought. With his physical strength depleted and his head spinning with dizziness, using Zetsu became even more difficult. This was normal, though. Even a genius like the Fourth Prince of Kakin, Tserriednich, required time to learn how to enter Zetsu and hide his presence after mastering Ten. Luo Ning, having only just awakened his Nen, was no exception.

Luo Ning sat down on a thick branch, hugging his knees as a wave of cold hit him. His clothes had been soaked through during the escape. As the wind blew, he felt a bone-chilling cold despite the protection of his Ten.

The uncertainty of when Uvogin might catch up filled him with a sense of dread and anxiety. Had he really hidden all his tracks? Would the pursuing Uvogin find the discarded sticker and follow the trail to his current location?

A multitude of unknowns flooded Luo Ning's mind, and a sense of helplessness began to take root. He shook his head, forcing himself to stop thinking about it. Instead, he focused his gaze on the Scarlet Eyes held in his arms.
