Chapter 30 - Workplace

"Whew, that was faster than expected."

I marvel in astonishment while staring at the black, sticky substance covering my skin.

"I expected to finish quickly, but not this quickly."

Only a few hours had passed since I entered the room.

"Probably less than five hours."

"Ugh, how I miss my phone and the ability to tell the exact time down to the seconds."

My speed this time must be due to my familiarity with absorbing spiritual energy and circulating it through my body.

Especially since I was mostly in places poor in spiritual energy, which made me exert double the effort.

"Hahaha, and finally, the benefits of returning are starting to show."

I laugh quietly as I sense the advantages of starting anew while possessing experience.

"Anyway, is there a bathroom here? I smell terrible."

I start looking for a bathroom in the training room.

Luckily, there was one, or I wouldn't have known what to do.

"Whew, that's so refreshing."

"Unfortunately, I don't have an extra set of clothes, so I have to make do with these worn-out ones."

I look at my dirty robe sadly.

"Anyway, since I've purified my body and memorized the Sea of Corpses technique, it's time for training now."

I hum happily as I head to the second floor of the sect building.

After a few minutes of walking, I reach the same office the trinket seller took me to.

"Please, enter."

I open the door and greet the old man sitting behind his desk.

"Hello, sir. I have completed the task you asked of me."

"Hmmm."

A surprised look appears in the old man's eyes.

"Come here."

I obediently approach the old man.

"Amazing. You actually managed to purify your body and form a Dantian in less than four hours."

A look of satisfaction appears in the old man's eyes as he holds my hand with his wrinkled one.

"Even though your talent is mid-grade, your performance resembles high-grade talent."

"Hmmm."

A contemplative look appears in the old man's eyes as he lets go of my hand.

"Alright, I've decided. Come with me."

After a minute of contemplation, the old man stands up, heading outside.

"Okay."

I follow the old man outside while feeling curious about what he will do.

'Is he impressed by my talent and will take me to the higher-ups in the sect to make me the Young Master of the sect?'

Unfortunately, contrary to my hopes, the old man headed to the ground floor, not the upper floors.

In fact, he even kept walking until he exited the sect.

"Come closer."

I feel the old man's hand grab my shoulder, and spiritual energy gathers from the air to envelop my body.

"This..."

A feeling of déjà vu hits me as I see the spiritual energy enveloping my body and lifting it into the air.

"Sir, where are we going?"

I ask the old man as we begin flying outside the wooden city.

"You can call me Elder Shou."

The old man smiles a gentle smile towards me, revealing his perfect white teeth.

"Although the sect values the talented, it doesn't offer preferential treatment to them as you think. In the end, there are things more important than talent, like discipline and obeying orders. Moreover, the sect refuses to have someone who only consumes resources without working."

"These are things you'll only learn from real work. And yet, there's a difference between different types of work. Therefore, before the council of elders learns about you, I will transfer you to work in a relatively safe place."

'I see. He's trying to make me indebted to him.'

Despite knowing this, I still feel sincere gratitude towards the old man who is flying me towards the unknown.

"Thank you very much, Elder Shou. I don't know how I'll ever be able to repay this debt to you."

"Hahahaha, don't worry about that. Just make use of the peaceful period you'll get for training. I have high hopes for you."

After smiling lightly at me, the old man begins focusing on the ground below.

"I'll never get used to this."

The ground below was severely decomposed corpse skin and flesh, yet its color was extremely strange, with the skin and flesh being a dark blue color.

And yet, this didn't lessen the level of disgust the sight provoked, especially when seeing blisters or sores filled with mold.

'Disgusting. I feel like vomiting.'

After minutes of flying, something finally appeared on the horizon, which was a wooden building constructed in the middle of a plain of rotting flesh.

"We've arrived."

I feel the spiritual energy enveloping my body begin to diminish simultaneously with Elder Shou's words as we land near the wooden building.

'Damn, this moment arrived faster than expected.'

I feel my body trembling as my feet touch the ground.

The ground was strangely hard, as if I were standing on stones and not rotting flesh.

'Well, that's better. If I don't focus on the ground, I'll forget the fact that I'm standing on a giant's corpse.'

I gather my composure and follow Elder Shou towards the wooden building, which turned out to be a wooden house of rustic style.

"Wei Wang, come out."

With Elder Shou's knock, a young man with pale skin and a sickly appearance comes out of the wooden house with a panicked expression on his face.

"How may this humble one know what brought an esteemed elder here?"

A look of annoyance appears in Elder Shou's eyes upon seeing the panicked young man.

"I've brought a new recruit to the farm. He will be under your supervision from now on. Therefore, remember to teach him everything he needs to know."

The young man's expression becomes even paler upon hearing this.

"A new recruit?"

"Yes, a recruit. Oh, and due to some special circumstances, he couldn't register normally. So, you will be responsible for the process of registering him in the sect's records. Is that understood?"

"Yes, understood, sir."

Wei Wang regains some vitality with Elder Shou's new words.

"Alright, I'll leave the rest to you."

With these words, Elder Shou flies away.

With Elder Shou's disappearance, Wei Wang's gaze shifts.

"So, you are the new recruit."

"That's right. I'll be in your care, Senior Brother."

"And yet, I have a question."

Indeed, there was something I had been curious about since the beginning of Elder Shou's words.

"I heard Elder Shou say this is a farm, but a farm for what?"

Since I landed, I had been observing everything within my line of sight, and yet there was nothing besides the wooden house Wei Wang was in.

"Oh, it's a worm farm."

"...!"

"Oh, from your expression, it seems you are new to the island."
