Chapter 32 - Chapter 32: The Meaning of Life

Three days Han had walked without direction, his feet bleeding and leaving red marks on the cracked earth. His eyes were empty — not fixed on anything, not seeing anything. The world was still fractured from the rage he had unleashed, but now only silence remained.

His steps were unsteady, erratic. Like someone walking in their sleep, or perhaps in a nightmare that would not end.

"Rina…" His voice was hoarse, murmuring to himself. "I stopped it… but what for?"

He stopped walking. He looked up at the hollow sky, at clouds drifting slowly without purpose — just like him.

"You still didn't come back… so… what reason do I have to be alive now?"

The wind blew cold, carrying ash from the destruction he had created.

"What use is this power…" Trembling hands stared at his own palms — covered in wounds and Divine Mark symbols. "If I couldn't protect the one person who gave my life meaning?"

The question hung in the air with no answer.

The Appearance of Istaroth

From the ruins came a heavy breath — deep, resonant, like the sound of the earth itself breathing. Then a massive figure emerged.

A dragon shimmering silver-gold, its scales reflecting sunlight in a way that was almost hypnotic. Yet there was no hostility from it. Its ancient eyes — which had witnessed thousands of years of history — looked at Han with a profound understanding.

"You…" The dragon's voice resonated like distant thunder. "The young man who once traveled alongside the seeker of the Water of Life. Now you search for something far more difficult to find."

Han felt no surprise. No fear. He only looked back with a flat, empty expression. "Istaroth… the ancient dragon."

"And you…" Istaroth stepped closer, each movement sending a faint tremor through the earth. "A destroyer who chose not to destroy. A fascinating contradiction."

Han looked at the great dragon with eyes full of wounds that went deeper than flesh. "You have lived for thousands of years, Istaroth. You have watched civilizations rise and fall, millions of souls be born and die…"

His voice trembled slightly. "Tell me… what is the meaning of any of it? What use is living… if in the end we will lose everything we ever loved?"

Istaroth settled down, its enormous body lowering. Ancient eyes regarded Han from above.

"Young destroyer…" its voice was deep and old, as though the earth itself was speaking. "You ask about meaning, yet you have already shown it."

Han frowned, confused.

"I have lived five thousand years," Istaroth continued. "I have watched kingdoms become dust, heroes become legend, and legends become myth."

A pause.

"But of all of it… the only things I remember are moments."

The dragon looked at Han again.

"A mother's lullaby warming a cold night. A friend's laughter that drove away loneliness. The touch of a loved one that made eternity bearable."

Istaroth's eyes glowed softly. "The smile of a younger sister… that gave her brother the courage to stand against a god."

Han flinched at those last words.

"Life, young one, is not about how long it lasts," Istaroth continued quietly. "It is about how deep it goes. About connection. About love."

It raised one great claw, gesturing to the world around them. "You can live five thousand seconds with meaning, and that is worth more than five thousand years without purpose."

Tears began to fall from Han's eyes again.

"But… Rina is gone. That bond… has been cut. That love… died with her."

He sank to his knees, head bowing.

"How can I find meaning again… when the only reason I lived is no longer here?"

"Ah…" Istaroth exhaled slowly. "But is she truly gone?"

"DON'T GIVE ME FALSE HOPE!" Han cried out, rage flaring back to life. "I tried temporal loops, I manipulated reality… nothing worked!"

"I am not saying she lives in body, young one." Istaroth shook its head slowly. "But… look at yourself."

Han lifted his head, confused.

"I see everything." Istaroth looked at Han with a gaze that pierced through.

"The Han I witnessed years ago was a cold strategist, hiding behind calculation. Raksha was nothing but a shadow moved by vengeance."

A pause.

"But now…" it continued quietly. "You ask about the meaning of life. You stopped the destruction of the world. You chose compassion over revenge."

Istaroth lowered its head slightly.

"Where did that change come from? Where did your capacity to love come from?"

Han went still, absorbing those words.

"Rina's love did not die with her body." Istaroth's voice softened.

"It lives in every choice you make, in every act of kindness you carry out, in every life you save — not destroy."

The dragon looked at Han with a gravity that was clear even on its ancient face.

"That is her legacy. That is how love outlasts death."

The words hung in the air, seeping into Han's awareness.

"For human beings," Istaroth said quietly, "parting is inevitable. In the journey against destruction, sometimes you must be willing to lose… in order to keep moving forward."

A brief silence.

"The question is not… 'how do you live without her?'" Istaroth continued. "But… 'how do you live because of her?'"

"Because of her…" Han whispered, tears falling onto the earth below him.

"Yes." Istaroth nodded. "She taught you love. Now… teach it to others."

The dragon began to rise. Its form slowly faded, dissolving little by little.

"You possess the power to destroy the world," it said calmly, "or the power to protect millions of lives."

Its gaze met Han's — deep, and undeniable.

"The choice is yours," Istaroth continued. "But remember… she chose to love a destroyer. Perhaps it is time for you to become a creator — to bring into being the world she dreamed of."

Its form continued to fade.

Before long, Istaroth vanished among the ruins, leaving only silence.

Its final voice echoed — slowly, yet still clearly.

"And Han… when your time comes to follow her, make sure you carry stories to tell. About all the souls you touched, all the love you shared, all the kindness you chose to give."

Those final words lingered.

"That is the meaning of life. Not its length… but its depth."

Then silence.

Istaroth had fully disappeared.

Han's Resolution

Han stood alone in the ruins. The wind blew, carrying away ash and dust. But this time… he was no longer lost.

Something had changed in his eyes. No longer emptiness. No longer rage. Instead — purpose, a quiet resolve.

"Rina…" He whispered to the wind, to the sky, to the memory he would always carry. "I can't bring you back. But… I can live the life you wanted for me."

He drew a slow, steadying breath.

"I can protect others… the way I once tried to protect you. I can choose love… instead of vengeance."

He paused for a moment. A small smile appeared — aching, but genuine.

"Maybe that is enough. Maybe… that is the meaning."

Han began to walk, leaving the ruins behind. This time his steps were firm, sure, carrying a clear new purpose.

"Alice… and the others…" His voice was stronger now, more grounded.

"They need someone to protect them from the darkness of this world."

He looked toward the horizon — in the direction where he knew his friends were waiting, wrapped in worry and hope.

"And I… I choose to be their light," he said quietly, with conviction.

"The way Rina… was once mine."

Sunlight broke through the clouds, illuminating the path before him.

Han stepped toward it — toward an uncertain future, but one that was no longer without hope.

Toward a life lived not only for himself, but for the memory he carried, for the people who still needed him, for the world he could still choose to protect.

Not as Raksha, the destroyer.

Not as Han, the desperate wanderer through time.

But as someone new.

Someone forged by wounds, yet strengthened by love.

Someone who finally understood —

not what life means,

but what he chooses to live it for.
