This chapter will serve as a breakdown of some terms and ranks used within the world of the story. All of these will be exposed in the story in its own time, this is merely a point of reference for readers.

° Hellscape
A vast dimensional world populated by magical elements and beasts, awakened go to battle there to battle beasts, grow stronger and acquired powers. Most of its regions are largely unexplored and it's origin is unknown.
° The Song Of Shadows
A majority of teenagers between the ages of fifteen to eighteen have been reported to hear a strange song that pulls them towards Hellscape and forces them to see visions of beasts on the other side.
° Sphere
A strange divine system from unknown origins that grants chosen humans superhuman abilities and is responsible for aiding their growth.
° Gate/Portal Gates
A crack in space that appears to be the only way into Hellscape, it can only be transversed by humans called by the song.
° Black Gate
A rare occurrence where an unregistered gate fractures into the human world and takes form, leading to another plane within Hellscape. It has to be challenged and conquered to be claimed as a registered gate.
° Collapsed Gate
A black gate that has not been challenged causing the gate to become unstable and shatter. This phenomenon causes monsters to spawn through it on the human world.

° Bases
Claimed regions within Hellscape, populated by awakened humans who have built structures and erected outposts for external hunting and excavation. They are usually found near a registered portal gate.
° Regions
An explored area of the Hellscape with given landmarks.
° Beasts
Magical creatures populating Hellscape. They are known for their violent nature towards humanity and exist for destruction. They are categorised by ranks and types.
° Monsters
Humans transmogrified to resemble beasts in many aspect except the don't bear beast cores. Also known as corrupted humans.
° Beast Cores
The magical orbs that beasts draw their magical abilities from, the higher the grade of a core the more the number within the beast. Stronger beasts have more cores in them.
° Soul Core
They show the rank of the awakened human.
° Core Fragment
They show the number of beast cores consumed.
° Artifacts
They are magical tools that can be obtained from slaying a beast, the rank is the corresponding rank of the beast killed to obtain them. Can be a weapon or support item.
° Enchantments
These are magical properties that are born within artifacts.
° Companions
These were beast subordinates gotten by slaying beasts, their loyalties are to their masters. The chances of getting one is extremely rare.
° Soul World
A dimensional space that can only be achieved on reaching the second tier of evolution
° Soul Self
An incorporeal version of the awakened that exists outside their body.

Both humans and beasts go down an evolutionary phas.
Human constitution grows stronger with the more beast cores they consume to make their own cores stronger. Their core is a correspondent of their soul core as they ascend to the pinnacle of power.
Beasts constitution follows a similar pathway only darker, they grow more intelligent and become capable of weaving their abilities in sophisticated ways.
Humans walk the path of godhood as beasts walk the path of chaos and damnation.

A rare constitution given to awakened humans usually linked to destiny and fate. Having a legacy gives one a certain path different from every other awakened. Their origins and purpose remain unknown.
° Legacy Rank
Each legacy is born with a rank to show the level of power bestowed by gate.
° Legacy Ability
These are special magical abilities bestowed upon one by a legacy.
° Inheritance
These are a series of pathways bestowed by the legacy ability, the number of pathways increase with each ascension.
° Penalty
A price paid by a legacy wielder.
