Chapter 2 - The Grimoire Bestowal Ceremony

Morning finally arrived, with Lumian already wearing the blue robe bought by Uncle Adam to attend the ceremony.

He left his room and saw Aunt Alice, a red-haired woman wearing an apron who looked young for her 35 years, cooking soup.

Then at the table, he saw a little girl wearing a simple cream-colored dress. She had whitish-blonde hair and shining emerald green eyes as she looked at him. Yep, that was Evangeline, now eleven years old.

"Good morning," Eva said with an innocent face.

"Morning," Lumian sighed, then took a seat beside her. He didn't dare to look at his little sister for too long, because every time he looked at her innocent face, he felt guilty for hiding something she should have had as a princess of the kingdom.

On the night of the coup, Eva, who was still little at the time, didn't understand anything, but clearly, there was a lot of violence happening in front of her. She ended up fainting, and because of a magical effect from that night, she lost her memory. Then Lumian, Uncle Adam, and Aunt Alice took advantage of it and promised never to discuss it again in front of Eva.

"Alright, the food is ready," Aunt Alice said, slowly placing the vegetable soup on the plates. Then she looked at Lumian with her brown eyes and said, "Eat a lot, Lumian. You're undergoing the Grimoire Bestowal Ceremony today, right?"

"Wow, big brother is getting a Grimoire?"

"Yeah," Lumian answered briefly. For him at this moment, the Grimoire Bestowal was a formality for children who had reached fifteen years of age. After that, anyone was free to choose their destiny; whether to become an ordinary citizen or a wizard of the Kingdom of Freynarforth.

"May this Grimoire Bestowal make your life better," said Aunt Alice, looking at him from across the table.

"Where's Uncle Adam? Has he left for work?" asked Lumian while eating.

"Yes, he has. He's very enthusiastic this time about saving money so you can enter the Academy later," answered Aunt Maya.

He's even doing that for me? What if I fail? Lumian just nodded while thinking about what would happen. Even though he had agreed to enter the Academy after receiving his Grimoire, it still felt very heavy. He didn't want to deal with the kingdom or the nobles there again, but circumstances forced him to do so because in this world, a person without magical talent would always be looked down upon.

"You look nervous?" Eva observed him from beside him, her head tilted. "Relax, I'm sure you can do it."

"O-of course I can," Lumian answered with a slightly forced smile, but his sister's face warmed his heart.

After the meal was finished, Lumian finally stood in front of the door of the combined wood and stone house.

"Good luck, big brother," Eva cheered him on.

Aunt Maya hugged him and whispered, "You can do it."

Lumian nodded, stepped back slowly, and said, "Thank you, goodbye everyone." Finally, he turned and left them on the road.

What kind of Grimoire cover type will I get? Throughout the walk, Lumian was restless thinking about what type of Grimoire he would receive, because it would determine his future if he wanted to become a wizard. Moreover, Uncle Adam had high hopes for him...

Right now, he hoped to get a Grimoire of the Star Cover type. Because if he got a Star Cover, it could be certain he wouldn't be assigned to fight monsters outside or be recruited by the kingdom as a soldier.

Unlike the other four covers; Clover, Lotus, Sun/eclipse, and Moon/crescent moon... The Star Cover was not a combat type because the basis of its magic was Navigation, illumination, giving guidance. You could say it was like a fortune teller, but that didn't mean it had no offensive magic. It was just that Lumian would focus on that divination technique so he wouldn't be recruited by the Kingdom of Freynarforth as a soldier, which would instead make him meet Charlotte, his childhood friend, and the nobles there who used to know him.

From a distance, Lumian could already see a very large church that was the venue for the ceremony. He was also walking alongside other children his age who were heading to the same place.
