Ruko had recently got used to his new life he was sleeping good and eating well It still to this day scared him to run into a fresh and fully grown lagiacrus that has adapted to fresh water but it's fine it was actually kind of funny to him how he had turf wars with like 3 other monsters here that being tigrex, lagiacrus and glavenus no dout he would run into some more as he continued to grow in age.
He would have to dwell on that later as right now it was time to get some water he shook his body violently throwing off loose scales as his scratched his back against a low hanging branch causing a piece of his carapace to fling off he flew off to go get some water near the river suddenly as he was drinking he heard splashing.
As he looked up and turned to his right in the direction of the flowing water it was child holding an egg with blue markings as the flow of the water calmed down he noticed that the child had an bow on their back suddenly as the child and the egg drifted past him straight into the face of lagiacrus ruko couldn't just let a child to die now if it was a regular person he wouldn't care less but a child he may be a monster but he's not a heartless one mustering up his courage he flapped his wings as he flew in front of lagiacrus slashing it across the top of its head with his talons lagiacrus was a massive foe it would most likely take a little bit of time for the paralysis to work but since it was a direct shot to the head it would spread quicker in the upper body.
As ruko dipped his talons in the water to pick up both the child holding the wyvern egg he got ready to fly away but lagiacrus wasn't giving up as it got ready for devastating strike the paralysis activated causing its jaw to lock up giving ruko enough time to effortlessly escape he barely manged to fly them to his nest in the meantime he would go hunting lagiacrus definitely wasn't going to let him off the hook now up until now he managed to earn lagiacrus superiority as every time he saw lagiacrus he ran away so at most as long as he didn't step into the mash he would be fine.
Another reason he liked heaven's Haven it was abundant with prey thanks to the duramabos breeding here not only have they decided to stay long-term but also it made the aptonoth more confident in joining their herd because it was a symbiotic relationship aptonoth eggs confused small predators like velocidrome or kulu-ya-ku from stealing duramabos eggs and duramabos hatch in aptonoth nesting grounds causing them to protect the aptonoth like family.
Ruko scanned the abundance of prey on the ground with his absolute vision he noticed the tigrex in the tall grass getting ready for an ambush but so was another predator the yian garuga which was flying at a lower altitude than him made a bullet dive towards an unsuspecting female aptonoth slamming into her with such force it shattered her spine killing her instantaneously just as yian garuga got ready for a feast.
Tigrex bursted from the tall grass making a devastating roar so loud it created a sonic boom this roar was so loud it also damaged its own caster nearly shredding tigrex lungs it's lungs barely held together as tigrex ran up and swatted yian garuga away from its hard-earned kill yian garuga retaliated by shooting a fireball just as tigrex was about to chomp down on the aptonoth as they entered a territorial clash also known as a turf war ruko took his opportunity and snatched the corpse off the ground.
The two monsters roared yian garuga being the only one able to fly gave Chase for its food ruko started building up a semi full power fire ball he didn't charge it long enough for it to become blue just long enough to stun if his theory was correct this yian garuga was about 50 5 years away from becoming 55 where it will die of old age which means it's flame sac most likely evolved into an inferno sac and if he devours it along with the blaze gem(gems are just hardened and compact bioenergy made from elements) then his flame sac would evolve and his flames might become permanently blue.
Ruko snapped back to reality when a fireball barely grazed him he turned around with a quickness unleashing a blast of fire the yian garuga wasn't fully prepared for retaliation as fireball hit it square in the chest and exploded the yian garuga fell out of the sky into the water as it thrashed around wildly it managed to escape before lagiacrus found it.
As for ruko he was victorious he just snacked food from monster just as aggressive as deviljho as he turned into his nest meanwhile inside his nest the boy he saved from the river woke up still holding his monster egg confused the boy whose name was tensei realized he was in a monster nest he picked up one of the scales and remembered it was a rathalos scale his dad used to own one back in the village kind of ironic how he had a rathalos egg and ended up in the nest of one.
That's right tensei was one of the few and far he was born in a village of monster riders people who grew up with monsters as best friends villages that tame the monsters and Hunters didn't get along very well they didn't see eye to eye and ideals and how the way of life should be so those with the capacity to tame monsters prefer to live in villages retired hunters and young scholars wish to learn their ways but tensei Village was attacked by a enraged bazelgeuse.
His father and mother using their rathian and rathalos tried to defend It off along with the other monster riders his grandma gave him her kinship stone that she turned into a necklace exactly for him and she even gave away her old iron bow with some copper arrows that was all she could give him before the bazelgeuse made a bombing run.
Knocked him off the cliff with his monster egg into the river as he was remembering such a traumatic sight suddenly a body an aptonoth came flying in as did the owner of the nest tensei was an absolute fear he only heard his father talk about this variant of rathalos it was a silver rathalos the ultimate King of the skies considered the King of Kings for their destructive power this one was still young though.
From ruko point of view the boy looked struck by his arrival suddenly he noticed the necklace hanging from the boy's neck as he looked closer I was hanging from the chain he realized tensei was a monster tamer good he wasn't some Hunter kid who got lost ruko made a decision to let the boy stay until his monster was old enough and strong enough to let him fly on its back and then they were on their own.
Ruko slashed open the aptonoth guts and opened his mouth releasing flames he gently picked to the boy up by the back of the shirt and placed him in front of the corpse before turning around in a tsundere like motion and allowing the boy to eat in peace as tensei smelt the perfectly good meat he started eating making sure to avoid the parts that rathalos slashed he didn't want to get poisoned from a kind gesture.
In the midst of eating tensei ninja try something talking to the kinship Stone on his necklace he tried to read/talk to the sliver rathalos through his mind suddenly like a demon the silver rathalos gave him the most devilish side eye ever as it's voice rang out in his mind ruko:'don't ever try to read my thoughts and if you must know my name is ruko now hurry up and eat I'm famished' tensei had to admit that was the rudest rathalos he's ever encountered.
But nonetheless did what was asked of him and ate his fill from ruko POV tensei had asked him what his name was and in return he also learned that the boy's name tensei the reason he was being so cold towards the child was because he didn't want to get attached then he'd actually want him to stay but he knew his rathalos genetics would not let that boy and his monster stay for long especially if it was an rathalos.
If you got attached then the boy would feel like he'd get to stay honestly ruko would not mind some company and just like he did he got attached after tensei ate his fill ruko took his turn eating ravenously suddenly he heard tensei panicking tensei:"no! It's cold from the water" ruko couldn already guess he was talking about the monster egg he sighed and walked over to the egg opened his mouth and lit a flame in his mouth causing the egg to warm up he continued to do this.
Tensei was worried the silver rathalos was going to cook his monster until suddenly the egg began to crack and continue to crack as what fully revealed itself was an azure rathalos even more worse than a regular one azure rathalos we're a lot more aggressive and harder to chase off ruko didn't care though as he went back to eating the azure rathalos imprinted on both him and tensei not wanting to have to share the meal again ruko Tore a chunk out of the aptonoth and through it at the Young hatchling.
As the hatchling 8 with unprecedented vigor the trio went to sleep wrapped in each other's embraces ruko would have to kill that yian garuga in the morning that was basically his main objective yet he got dragged into a side quest of quote on quote being the father that stepped up East side quests were going to get really irritating in the future.
